Interesting theory being bandied around.

WAC and Big Sky do some sort consolidation going to 16 or 18, by staying in same league with Montana State in all sports except football Montana agrees to move to FBS. Separate entity is created to administer football only FCS league that is administered by new WAC.

Also known as its late and folks are trying to figure out what is next.

Yes, Montana would have to be the key 8th team the WAC needs. I've heard they are tied to Montana St and MSU can't move up. Otherwise it's more FCS shopping...one of the Dakota schools? Northern Az? Mizzou St? or perhaps another SLC school? Slim pickins!

San Antonio paper article on possible Hawaii move and WAC options....

"To be perfectly blunt, the Western is probably now the worst FBS conference in America, not only lacking any name schools, but any shred of stability. The Sun Belt doesn’t have much, but it at least has the latter."

"But the fact remains that Hawaii’s isolation in the middle of the Pacific was a huge thorn in the side of most of the other schools, requiring lengthy and lucrative travel. With that thorn removed, the WAC just might be able to lure schools like North Texas that had previously resisted its advances. Not exactly an exciting option."

Let's see, the New Mexico Bowl already pulled out. The Hawaii Bowl is tied to Hawaii so it's gone. The H-Bowl can't honestly say they are going to proceed with Boise ineligible for them so they will be gone soon. What bowl games do they have left?

Multiple times there have been proposals for San Jose State to just drop football. They had some well monied alums and the "WAC tradition" that kept them alive. With the budget collapse in California, anyone want to bet on them keeping FBS football?

In all honesty, we have got to feel sorry for LaTech.

They are probably the BEST WAC team reamaining surrounded NMSU, Idaho, USU, TSU, UTSA & a couple of really bad California schools......with the strong possibility (100%) of adding some more football subdivision schools to their conference.

LaTech was passed over by the MWC, probably will not be considered for the MAC, may have a chance at C-USA if CUSA decides to expand by loosing a team or two.

LaTech probably feels that they just dropped a bar of soap in the shower..............in prison.

IMHO, I would accept LaTech into the SBC.....to upgrade the competition.

Well.. this is good news I think. The Sunbelt just needs to take NMSU and Utah State. This will hobble La Tech's program (no reason for a 3rd LA school in our conference) and help ULL and ULM's recruiting. This will also kill the Texas State and UTSA threat which will give us 2 less schools to compete with in recruiting. Yay us.

North Texas fans have complained for years about bigger Texas schools conspiring to keep us down. Considering that, it's ironic that you want us to do that to Texas State and UTSA.

We should be happy that two more Texas schools are moving up to the FBS. They could become good in-state opponents and potential conference rivals.

I don't want to be a part of any conference that has Texas State or UTSA.
