UNT defensive coordinator candidates?

Let's be real about all of this, though. The new DC will probably be someone McCarney has worked with in the past (not necessarily a bad thing: look at Skladany), and will probably come from a place we wouldn't even think about.

Challenge to this board: Comb through Defensive coaches that McCarney has worked with in any capacity, widdle that down list by those who are either at G5 schools, OR are at P5 schools currently in lower-than-coordinator positions, and cross reference that probably small list with teams that had decently successful seasons last year and this year. There you'll find the short list of candidates.

Shouldn't be hard to do all of that.

Don't forget former players who are positional coaches in the NFL.

Any good up and comers at Ga Southern? They are making their mark in year one at this level. Go poach Pattersons staff or are they barren. Not super impressed with the frog d this year. Combine is ready to be poached on the other side of the ball.

Sometimes those kinds of players make the best coaches. Guys who barely hung on and had to learn all the tricks and techniques in order to keep on playing.

Very true! It seems some stars players have a harder time teaching techniques that simply came naturally to them.

That said, I'm not sure someone's first D1 coaching job ever should be defensive coordinator! Start as a position coach or even the GA position he specifically mentioned!
