  1. Now that the regular season is over I thought it'd be interesting to look back to see how the newbie programs held vs "better" competition... Old Guard SMU - 4-4 Memphis - 3-4 USF - 8-1 Tulsa - 4-5 ECU - 1-7 Tulane - 1-8 Wichita - 3-4 Temple - 3-5 Overall: 27-38 New Guard FAU - 9-2 CLT - 6-5 UAB - 8-3 UNT - 9-2 Utsa - 3-8 Rice - 4-7 Overall: 39-27 I found it funny when their fans started to openly look down their nose at the programs joining the AAC. Well...

  2. You would have to think FAU couldn't beat us 5(?) times in a row....

  3. This line of thinking is why I wasn’t too upset when they beat us on Wednesday. The odds have to be in our favor, right?

  5. That story on channel 11 was incredibly well done. Almost brought tears to my eyes. This team makes me so proud to be Mean Green!!! Go Ladies! GMG

  6. Honestly, I would have preferred any of the other 5 win teams over Tulane. Tulane has by far the best NET ranking of them, and frankly is tied with them because they had drawn clearly the toughest conference schedule (twice against SMU, UNT, UAB, FAU and Memphis i.e. no double draw against anyone from the bottom half of the conference). Their NET and other power rankings are a lot better than their win number. Which feels familiar.

  10. What could have been in conference play had it not been for injuries and foul trouble. If we can keep them on the court, I think we have a shot to make some noise this week.

  11. With the tournament still to be played, the story of the 2023-24 edition of men's basketball has not been fully written yet. While this is far from a exhaustive analysis and only looks at our regular season games, this team was sooooo close to repeating the success we had in the regular season last year. Finishing the regular season at 17-13, our average margin of victory in our 17 wins was 15.12 points. On the flip side, our average margin of defeat in our 13 losses was only 5.38 points. In our 17 wins, 2 were one possession games and 2 more were two possession games. 13 of 17 were double-digit wins. In our 13 losses, 6 were one possession games and another 4 were two possession games. Only 2 of the 13 were double-digit losses. One other was a 9 point loss. Another shot or two drops over the course of a 40 minute game and things may have ended differently and flipped a loss to a win.

  12. Dale Hansen when talking about UT football would play that clip. If I'm not mistaken UT finally asked him not to show it when referencing UT Football. Everybody in the State of Texas knows the refs gave that game to UT.

  13. I hate to look past Tulane or FAU, but a UNT-SMU semifinal on Saturday at 4pm on ESPN2 with a packed lower bowl of 80% green would be dynamite.

  14. Help me lads. Wasn't the other Cash TD pass just as egregious? Either way, my memory is shady because I thought that first TD pass was also in the second half, not in the first half. I'd also like a little more context on our last drive, the FG. We stalled inside the 20, I believe, and kick a FG. How did we get there? It was a great game, yet the outcome so defeating. But it was the most humble I have ever seen the Texas fan. Saying that as a UT transfer who had 45 yard line seats in the two seasons I was at Texas (78-79). The most I ever enjoyed a Texas game. GMG

  15. I was there with my wife, fiancée at the time (A UT Grad) and was the only one in a group of UT fans. Several turned to me and said that was about as bad of a "homer" job that they had ever seen.

  16. Just judging by the stats as I didn't see this game. But looks like the home team officiating may have helped UAB just a bit in this game. Fouls: SMU 26, UAB 16 FT: SMU 8-15, UAB 27-33

  19. Rubin again is a great NT player and certainly deserves recognition. However, I can easily name twenty past NT players who I would put ahead of him for displaying his jersey in the SPit. It takes more than longevity, do you really think he deserves it more than: Hamlin, Perry, Joe Hamilton, Leroy Winfield, Tristan Thompson, Josh White, Roosevelt Smart, Kenneth Williams, Willie Davis, Fred Mitchell, etc. etc.

  21. I like our side of the bracket. Difficult road to win 4 in 4 days but we have more depth than in the past. Tulane, FAU, possibly Smut, Char, or Nutsa(Cinderella) in the semifinal and Memphis or USF in the Final. All challenging games but not impossible.

  25. As a committee, if you have multiple teams with similar resumes, I’d personally go with the defending champ for marketing purposes. But all this won’t matter once we win the American tourney so.

  27. Perry/Hamlet may have only played here 1 or 2 years but they also elevated the program to heights not seen ever

  28. Perry actually got a degree here which is more than many of our players (even four year guys) ever do. Going to grad school somewhere else shouldn't be prohibitive.

  32. NT led the majority of the game. NT was up 14-7 at half, and 21-14 end of 3rd quarter. Texas scored a TD with 3:30 remaining in the game, went for 2 and missed it, NT up 21-20. NT added a FG with 1:30 remaining to make it 24-20. uT had to have a TD to win. This last TD? happened with only 45 seconds left in the game. Lots of Booing from the 10K NT fans. uT fans were mostly very cordial and consoling after the game...complimenting us on our game and knew they should have lost and were given a bogus win. NT only had 55 plays on Offense (23 yds rushing, 419 passing). Texas had 92 plays (71 rushes for 312 yds, 169 passing). https://stats.texassports.com/custompages/sports/m-footbl/archive/stats/88/ut-nts.htm#GAME.DRV

  33. We finished 17-13. We will need to get to a final appearance to be considered for the NIT, which would put us around 20-14. "Major" programs will get into the NCAA with a worse record. With the new NIT format I am intrigued to see what kind of shitty basketball they try to pass off as 1 and 2 seed worthy. We have 13 losses, but also watch a 13 loss big10 or ACC squad be a NIT 1-seed. Also be prepared to watch a 13 loss big10 or ACC team be a non-AQ NCAA team. Basketball, more than any other sport, is rooted in parity. Take the top 3 teams in any major conference in the country and push them through our top 6 or 7 teams with a home/home. Dumb fans truly believe they would come out unscathed. And the media and selection committee wants the dumb fans to continue thinking that.

  35. We had a great time at the game. wish we could have made it to the pre-game get together. We were right behind the bench. I wish the kids would have hung around after the game ended to let us get some group photos of the team, but thank to the AD team for contacting us about the tickets.

  36. You guys are talking sense. This a tough league and that’s what we wanted. We are sitting here with an opportunity that we wanted and now we have to rise. It’s kind of like we got a promotion to a better job and we’ve been working our way through it and now it’s time to just say we are gonna get it done. We are finally healthy again, I know depth is a problem, but it’s not impossible to win it. But I don’t look at this season as a disappointment. There’s been a lot to work through. Do I look at it as a success? No. But seeing through clear eyes it’s also not a disappointment. The way these guys fight and the way they play and dig so deep and care…they really REALLY care. Damn do these dudes care. And I want to pause here in this thought for a minute because that has become so very rare for kids to really care. Players don’t have this much heart very often anymore. Aaron Scott is on my mind as I type this. He is a fighter. I know he goes too far sometimes but he is a total fighter. I guess my point is.. THIS IS OUR PERSONALITY as a fanbase and I’m so glad we have a team that reflects it. Dig deep, fight for every inch. The close losses have sucked so much and we gotta fix that and there’s no other way about it. BUT I am so proud of these guys. They represent who we are so well. This is the sports I’ve wanted for so long.

  37. I have no conflicting thoughts at all. Hodge put together a really good team that competed/beat pretty much every team we played. Injuries to our veteran PG really hurt. His game management will only improve. We still have the AAC Tourney. GMG!

  38. Part of my point was pointing out there seems to be a new tournament below the Dance and above the WNIT. The new one is actually NCAA sanctioned, unlike the current version of the WNIT.

  39. Rubin is a very good player, but nowhere near the level to have a jersey in the rafters. IMO you would have to have multiple all conference first team honors or be a player with national accolades I don't remember who currently has that honor, I know it was only Mitchell and Reedes for a long time. Who should be there IMO, Mitchell, Joe Hamilton, Kenneth Lyons, and Tyler Perry

  40. Tristan Thompson went into the HOF in 2020. I suspect that all the names being listed will eventually go into the UNT Hall of Fame. Damn shame but this is what it has become over the past few years. Coaches with losing records, players that played here 1 or 2 years, average players etc.

  41. I guess we are TOO good to play a Wyoming team that went 9-4 last season who beat Texas Tech and also won their bowl game...
    1 point
  42. 1. If you are counting on other teams to fill your stadium then you are SMU. 2. Wyoming is a very good team and a measuring stick for where we are as a program. They were 9-4 last year! 3. You need to beat upper-level Mid-majors if you want to start establishing a foundation to build on.
