  1. Winning the tourney gets us an auto-bid and no better than a 12 seed (maybe a 13 like last year). If that’s the best we are looking at with a win and auto-bid, there is no scenario were we lose in the tourney and still get an at-large bid. Our only path to the dance is to win the tournament. The #1 seed helps us do that. Winning the west (and regular season) adds another banner to the rafters.

  2. Hopefully our look is a bit more appealing to the youths these days... 15 year old Joe Burrow certainly didn't like them at the time. I'd be lying myself if I said the early 2010s had good uniforms. Definitely been better under the current leadership.

  3. We beat both #1s last year. We need to worry about playing our best basketball from February to April. We want UAB and LA Tech to have high Net Rankings.

  4. This would be great. Who participates in the ceremony? They could still do it as part of the post game celebration. Wheel out a big red button or switch to center court and have a live feed of the tower on the video screens. Keep the fans around for a few extra minutes to participate while the Talons “flip the switch” to light the tower. Edit: make that a big green button. My bad.

  6. You've probably never bought a car based solely on color, but I bet the color played a part in your decision.

  7. Yeah, the Buffalo and Miami losses don't help, but I think overall it's simply the lack of Quad 1 wins that is hurting more than any of our losses--none of which are really that bad. We have a huge opportunity for a Quad 1 win at UAB, and that could go a long way toward placing North Texas firmly in the at-large conversation.

  8. Looking back at our schedule, the really crazy thing is that we could easily be sitting here today with only one loss.

  9. We had put people in charge of selecting uniforms that should never have been put in charge of selecting uniforms. We had put people in charge of selecting attire for coaches and sideline staff that should never have been put in charge of selecting attire for coaches and sideline staff. We wound up with a mixed hodgepodge of crap outfits and throwback costumes which hardly count as uniforms. I think that Joe Burrow says "rachet" only because he thinks we have allowed some tool to make these important decisions for our university, especially with adding weird "fashion" colors that just don't belong. Green and White are the ONLY two colors that have ever been approved to represent our university. Our uniforms should reflect that accordingly. .

  10. You are completely wrong. Completely. There are medical "orders" - quit being pedantic. You can obviously ignore them. There is freedom in choice, but still consequences. If you think poor people get the same rate of care, you're naive. You can deny treatment on ability to pay. At the ER they'll stabilize you and then kick you out to the Dallas county ER. There, you'll end up on a wait list for an outpatient clinic to run the tests to diagnose the root cause.. but in the meantime you get on a payment plan for the ER bills and it overwhelms you and your family. So you never show to your appointment five months later at the clinic. That person is *not* getting an organ transplant.

  12. OK...after a two year break due to COVID...we are back for 2022! We will once again be working to help provide scholarship money to the UNT Cheer Team. This year's event will take place on Saturday, MARCH 26th at the UNT SOFTBALL COMPLEX. Yes, the newly renovated UNT Softball Complex. Registration and t-shirt distribution will begin at 10:00am with the first "roll" by none other than the great SCRAPPY, at approximately 11:00am. Registration is still only $35.00 per player and all proceeds go to the UNT Cheer team account. There will be a silent auction with lots of great stuff including UNT items you are sure to want. There will also be a tailgate with food available for a donation to the Cheer program provided by the UNT Cheer parents and a 50/50 raffle drawing. We hope to have an alternative site announced soon in case of poor weather on the 26th. Also, we hope to have a registration/donations link up soon. When that is available, I will post it here for all to use should they wish. So, at this point what do we need? 1. Players....will Thor be the first to sign up once again? It is tradition, you know? 2. Silent Auction Donations - Let me know if you have something you would like to donate to the auction 3. Sponsorships - if you or your business would like to help sponsor this event please let me know and we can work out the details/amounts, etc. 5. Donations - if you cannot play and cannot attend and would like to help these student-athletes, donations of any amount are appreciated and welcomed. 6. Attendees! We need folks to simply show up and support this event and perhaps bid on a silent auction item or two. OK...more to come in the next few days, but for now check out the "needs" list and get the 26th down on your calendars...it is going to be FUN! EDIT/NEW INFORMATION: Back-Up Bad Weather Plan: In case weather prevents us from utilizing the Lovelace Softball Complex, we have secured the use of the UNT INDOOR PRACTICE FACILKITY as our back-up location. Only difference would be a 2:00pm registration time and 3:00pm Kick-off time. Obviously had to work around Spring Football practice times. EDIT II: NEW INFORMATION: We now have our sign-up links and donations links available: TO PLAY: https://one.unt.edu/annual-spirit-classic TO DONATE: https://one.unt.edu/annual-spirit-classic-donation-page

  14. Hilarious vintage store commercials from UNT alum Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale’s Gallery Furniture. Mattress Mack is very involved with the Houston community as featured in the Texas Country Reporter video below. Some of us started watching Bob Phillip’s video trips all over Texas when he was employed at Dallas’ Channel 4 (KDFW) & his show back in 1972 was called 4 Country Reporter. Enjoy.

  22. I seriously don't think we have signed or retained any players solely because we have the trashy multicolored non-traditional uniforms. Never let anybody monkey with our school colors.

  23. Getting ready for the "but were not..." Have we actually ever won a recruiting battle because of our uniforms? Has a player ever transferred because we did not have enough combinations? I know everyone points to Oregon, but Alabama, A&M, UT, USC, Michigan, Ohio State, OU, etc. seem to do OK without changing up every game. Let pick a helmet and home and away sets and stick with it. For me, I would like to see Mean Green on the front and the names on the back

  25. Completely agree. The chrome on the helmet and he design on the sleeves, a small part of the uniform, is all it takes to make a uniform more exciting.

  26. This. This uniform needs to the THE home uniform of choice. THE away uniform must be the all whites with white helmet. Make it happen and quit making it cool to look stupid. It's not cool.

  27. Almost equally atrocious was us wearing the flying worm/throwback uniforms way too often, and getting rid of the FIne era Green/White uniforms. Easily the best look we've had in a long time

  31. I think you should actually read what I wrote. I never claimed that, nor that unvaccinated Covid ICU patients not getting treatment because they can't pay.. i didn't even remotely claim that. I never brought up Covid patients at all. To get an organ transplant, you have to have financial means to afford post transplantation. Period. If you don't and you can't get a charity or church too st et p up - you are bypassed. If you have cirrhosis and need a liver, if you're still drinking or taking prevented medicines, you are bypassed and likely removed from the list completely. If you go in with active Covid and need a vent, smell like whiskey, cigarettes weighing 250lbs - yes, you'll get treatment for your symptoms. You will not get a new liver.

  36. Dude, get this - you won't believe your eyes. Since it is a private industry, listen for real, people are denied transplants because they can't long term financial meet the commitments of life POST transplant. That includes thousands of dollars a month in treatments and medications. It goes way beyond just being denied a transplant because you are a risky individual who ignores medical orders/advice. But yes, all the time surgeries are postponed and cancelled because a patient has failed to uphold their end of the bargain to meet the requirements of surgery. This isn't only for transplantations - it is for routine operations like hernia and orthopedics. True story. I know you are shocked that private industry can do such things.

  41. Open your eyes, Neo, and see the Matrix for what it truly is. In a constrained economy, the UT System must make choices about where it can allocate resources. Our poor cousin Texas State is in the backyard of the University of Central Texas (i.e. UT Austin). Thus you see dramatic developments for UTSA. When the economy opens up, the system will leverage its vast resources more liberally, and you will see all kinds of exciting developments for old UTA. They will not pass us by, but they will be there to dilute us in important ways. I have personally observed the effect on Texas State. I have a graduating senior at the very challenging Westlake HS here in Austin. The 'top 10%' practice has kept many excellent students but who are in the middle of the class at this school, out of the UCT and even A&M. Most do not want to go to Tech or Houston or pay for private school, so in droves they are going down to UTSA. Would they even consider Texas State? No. Unfortunately my student has elected to attend at the capital of the Evil Empire. (Nothing would stop the Matrix from incorporating other elements of human pop culture so lay off.) It greatly pains me to send money there but that is his decision. Ironically I see this as a tactic of rebellion. On a nearly unrelated note, there were several positive mentions of UNT at the Senior awards ceremony last night. You will be aghast to know however, that one older gentleman did refer to us as North Texas State.
