  1. Disappointing because this was a game we could have won. Encouraging because this was a game we could have won.

  2. All I think about is the last five years of wasted basketball. Makes me also think about what a coach like McCasland could have done with a Tony Mitchell.

  4. On a completely unrelated website, I saw the following comment about the Longhorns that made me chuckle.

  5. They're the worst. More people would have them if they were better. We had them year one, and asked to have them pulled after trying them out for two games.

  6. I agree, but those seats aren't terribly comfortable.

  7. I hate FT misses as much as the next guy, but let's really look at this. Let's say we go 12-16 from the line, that's a reasonable 75% clip, with a -13 turnover differential. We still probably lose that game. Now for argument's sake we cut our turnovers in half, but still shoot 7-16 from the line. I'm inclined to believe we would have won yesterday. Not every game will play out that way....sometimes turnovers seem to hurt less than others. Yesterday, because MTSU was so good with the ball, every time we turned it over was excruciating.

  8. Tonight was encouraging. I am definitely not a moral victory type of guy, but tonight was a gutsy performance. UNT won the game in everything except the turnover differential (18 to 5) and free throw shooting (7/16). Higher shooting percentage. Higher 3 ball %. Out rebounded Middle and has more team assists. The turnovers and poor free throw shooting has hurt this team all season, and tonight it reared its ugly head once again. Nevertheless, very good and refreshing competitiveness, specifically on the road vs a March Madness opponent. All I ask of all of our sports programs is competitiveness I have bought in on McCasland. He's a good one.

  10. went to the game tonight, and i have to admit... i have been a terrible mean green basketball fan for the last five years, so this was my first full game viewing of the team since year one of Benford. A couple of things i noticed tonight - #3 Smart... wow, he has the green light and deservedly so. - Woolridge... i'm not sure he sat for more than a minute of this game... and both of these guys are sophomores???? -We have an assistant coach that likes to dance -Love that the offense is not afraid to push the ball and work the fast break -It was nice watching a team not worry about getting sat down every thirty seconds if they made an error -I was confused to see that we burned our last timeout with 6 minutes left, and later knew immediately that we had just pulled a Chris Webber -MTSU is good, King is great, but i think their #20 had an off game. -When MTSU used their half court press for back to back possessions against us late in the game, that was scary good. -Like everyone said... free throws are extremely disappointing -We could really use a big presence down low, but i think we can still make a run in the CUSA tourney... I would advise McCasland to pack more than one suit...

  14. Postgame Kermit had some kind words. Said MTSU played well, tipped his hat to Mac. Said Mean Green will not go away. i think we have a fighting chance to steal a win or two in the next couple games.

  15. Can’t have 18 turnovers and go 7-16 from the Line on the road and expect to win against the top teams in conference. Solid showing got some stuff to clean up!

  16. Proud of this team, though. Just love how they compete and never give up.

  17. Man, we are just a couple of guys short. We could really use some of the guys that are redshirting this season. This team is only going to get better. Like the hustle.

  20. My turn to be nitpicky on inconsequential matters: Those sporadic green chairbacks in the background look awful except for what appears to be section 209. If they get the money, combined with increased required contributions on the alumni front, I wish they would decide to just put the damn chair backs in every seat on the alumni side. If I were a bajillionaire, I would personally make a restricted donation to put chair backs on the entire alumni side.

  23. SL has recruited 7 QBs here.. 2 have played and 1 Has been solid in Fine, the other was manageable (Morris).. SL has had 3 QB leave the program (O’Hara, Isadore, Cason), another RS (Pearson) and one being on campus 4 weeks now.. You’re comparing a Head Coach to an OC/QB Coach.. SL makes the determination and has the final say, while Chico only had a say and not the final say.. Look at the differences as well in how this offense appeals to players compared to Macs. I would sure hope we can see improvement going from a running team to a passing team with SL/GH here.. But the resume of Chico says SEC QB Coach, and he has brought in one of the highest rated QB recruits in the conference to UTEP. That QB recruit would be the highest rated recruit as well to make it to campus under this staff as well.

  24. Very nice to have fans discussing minor flaws other than horrible coaching. I am not sure NT doesn't have the best HC in the conference. I think Woolridge and Smart are both top line CUSA players. Woolridge's numbers are not great and his free throw shooting costs NT some wins, but he is the one most often mentioned by opposing coaches and commentators as a dominating player. Lawson is being underrated by some, he is a sophomore and injured and is very important to the team. His play is disappointing based on his first year, but I think the injury is the cause. Lawson is close to averaging double figures and is the team's leading rebounder. Neither Woolridge or Lawson are even average outside shooters, but these guys are super athletic and with time hopefully will develop a better outside game. Whether you are against moral victories are not, I think the loss to the Muts was very encouraging. In conference they are now 6-0 at home with an average win of 22 points a game excluding NT. Not to mention that their current rpi is 28.

  27. More money is being sent back to Mexico by illegals then what is earned in wages here in the US. The extra money is coming from the USA tax payers. I saw a study it is costing the citizens of Texas about 1.2 billion for education and health care for illegals children. If any of you think that Mexico is going to change you are wrong. The money coming to Mexico from the US is boom to the Mexican economy. Mexico gets a deal it gets rid of its poor uneducated people and sends them here and gets money in return. That is why Fox is telling the US that we are wrong when he did nothing for them when he was president of Mexico. I grew up in a border town and i was the minority but never thought about it. Most of my friends were hispanic and they had no love for the illegals. I watched a documentary on the Fusion channel that followed an illegal family in the US. They knew the immigration laws better then I did. The plan is to have an anchor baby and when the anchor baby is able to bring in family members they will do it. Hard to feel for them when they know the law. If we would not give financial support to anchor babies I bet the attraction here would slow down. Just make it a law that one parent has to be at least a US citizen. The family were not bad people but knew who to use the system.

  29. This team is certainly closing the gap within the conference with its hustle. It also helps to have a legit 1st team All-Conference caliber player in Roosevelt Smart; that can keep you in games throughout games. Additionally, a very good point guard, although outside shot challenged, controlling the action. After these two, I’m just hoping other guys don't hurt us too much and contribute something. Woolridge's turnovers are somewhat understandable, and to a smaller degree, missed free throws, due to possibly being tired late in games. Our big men need to understand or be reminded, that they don’t have to dunk a poor lob pass. Instead, bring it down and take it back up. This team will be much better when AJ Lawson and Allante Holston are further down the rotation or out completely. Additions next year may help this to become a reality. I get Lawson’s hand injury concerns but he commits so many wild ill-advised turnovers before he gets a shot off. I don't think he plays sound defense either. Its actually unbelievable how you can see the turnover coming when he get the ball most times. Its just so many little things that affect the game that prevents greater success. Hate settling for a moral victory today when this should have been a W.

  31. Yes....and even if we'd made all the FT's (which rarely happens...about the best one can hope for realistically is 75-80%) that's not as many as we probably lost with all those TOs

  35. Horrible broadcast, very disappointing Too many turnovers and missed free throws to beat a quality team. The best defense against Woolridge is to foul him. Shows though that this team could beat the Muts at a neutral site.

  36. I don’t know about the perception of aged pro athletes with HS athletes but I do know that the only quarterbacks worth a crap that Chico ever coached while at NT for 5 seasons were recruited by Todd Dodge before Chico arrived. Maybe Mac steered him away from certain types but you can’t say that in 5 years under 2 head coaches he couldn’t have snuck in one qb worth a spit.

  38. Simmons missed a layup and had a bad pass resulting in a turnover. Outside of that he played really solid post defense and was good on offense too. Impressed. Need to cut out those turnovers and do a better job making guys other than Potts and King beat us. We return 5 starters next year. MTSU loses their top 3 scorers and I haven't been that impressed by their other guys today. Hopefully this game will signal a passing of the CUSA torch

  39. Used to be in 208, but moved to 106. If you want to be in the "Red", I would recommend moving down to 108 or 102. If you're concerned about not being able to see the whole field from that low, I think you'll be pleased with seats in the upper rows of the 100 level.

  40. Probably gonna get railed for this one, but let me play Devil's Advocate here, because I am a big proponent of understanding "the other side's" argument, even if you don't agree with it. I didn't put in the time to make a pretty infographic, but consider the information. Currently, the tuition at UNT is higher than that of Texas State and UTSA (since those are the universities selected in the athletics graphic) and overall cost of attendance is pretty close for all three. Looking at the bigger picture, the cost of attending college is growing at a rate that far exceeds the inflation for other "commodities." Someone previously said that the athletics fee is the only one that students have the ability to control, I believe to suggest that they shouldn't be able to control it. I'm no libertarian, but I would argue the opposite - students should have more say on where money can be spent. I know an 18 year old isn't a CFO with decades of experience, but a college degree is seen as being damn-near a requirement to get a job (why not technical skills? that's a whole other can of worms). It is more and more expensive to go to college and there is one tiny piece that I, Joe Collegestudent, can control. I should absolutely weigh the cost and benefits and not just jump on board with paying more because UTSA can gargle my jubblies (they can, btw). For the record, I really hope the fee increase passes because I believe that, for better or for worse, our society measures the value of a degree by the university's athletic prowess and I want my degree to be seen as prestigious. However, if I were in school and I didn't believe that, you best believe I would fight tooth and nail to keep costs down to get the best value for my degree. Shift money, sure, but don't just keep charging me more and more so we can (being cynical, here) pay our coach $1.11M instead of $1.09M. ALL THIS TO SAY: I won't be cursing UNT students for fools if this doesn't pass. 41. Maybe by taxing all the money sent to Mexico?
    1 point
  42. They are not American. They were born in Mexico. And, it is not grossly inhumane to send them back to a country where they speak the language and have family. If we sent the illegal Mexican immigrants to Chad or Ethiopia or Syria, that would be inhumane. And, to say they don't have their own culture here is simply a lie. I go dozens of parties and celebrations a year with my wife's family and friends. The Mexicans are very good at inculcating their culture to their children here in America. So, there would be may be a hint of culture shock to a Mexican immigrant sent back to Mexico, but that is all. So, the question is: why isn't the Mexican government responsible for its own people? Mexico isn't like resource poor, like Chad or Ethiopia. It's not worn torn, like Syria. It's people are not oppressed, like Cubans and North Koreans...and now, Venezuelans. Mexico is lazy and arrogant. It has the natural resources to take care of itself, but it chooses to use those to enrich their political and big business leaders. They love it when their poor to go to America, so that they can wash their hands of them...while profiting from the money they send back home in remittances. Mexico needs to be held responsible for its poor governance. Some people like to say the United States shouldn't be the world's police. Fair enough. But, by the same token, we shouldn't be the world's foster care program either. And, in Mexico's case especialmente, we shouldn't be the foster care answer for a country who has the resources to enrich its own citizens, but steadfastly chooses not to do so. Mexico has no excuse. It is culpable for the lives of their own citizens, not us. Our neighbors to the north, Canada, has a much harsher geography and less natural resources than Mexico, but somehow manages it to the benefit of its own citizens, and to the degree that they are not pouring illegally across our northern border. It's question of the will of Mexico to quit f*cking around and do something for its own people with its own resources instead of dumping their poor and criminal on us and expecting us to foot the bill at every turn.
