  1. Hey UNT fans! My names John Schilleci, some of y'all may know me and some may not. I just graduated from UNT this year after having an amazing 4 years as a Mean Green football player! My life being football for the last 8 years hasn't left much time to have a job,but luckily some people understand the kind of people student athletes are and I was given an awesome opportunity to sell RVs at McClains in cornith. It's a job I'll being doing for a few years hopefully until I have enough money for the fire academy. The reason I'm on the forum currently is to hopefully attract some of you crazy mean green alums, fans, etc who like tailgating or just camping with the family. I also would love to keep contact with the Mean Green family through the forums, I'll be an eagle for life. But anyways, please let your family and friends know that a member of the eagle family has started a new chapter selling rvs and would love to decorate the north Texas tailgating area with a sweet new or used RV! My Infos on my card, can't wait to hear from some of y'all! GMG, let's go bowling again.

  4. I cannot seem to remember a year where so many people were so negative. So many seem to put down the athletic director. So many seem to dislike the coach. So many seem negative against any recruiters that seem to commit to us. Too bad we can't try and enjoy the off-season and be optimistic for the coming season.

  5. UH is a great series for us. We are a lot like UH. But Army was better.

  6. I recall there was a LOT of red in the stadium. I doubt they were there to see the stadium.

  7. To me you have find guys that can fit our type of offense. UNT has taken risks on guys like Cody Haynes that never made it to campus. It is hard to find highly ranked OL that will come to come UNT because of # of options that higher ranked kids have. P5 schools stock up on quality and highly ranked OL every, look at schools like WISC, Bama, UT from the past, USC. UNT has to find kids that can develop into players for them. If it means taken kids that have to sit for 1 or 2 years then play you have to do it. Adding guys like Newman, and Moses(the HS G) on top of the kid from Segin and Brammer have all solid traits with them having quick feet or just brute strength to dominate kids in HS Brown has the height and body it looks like to fill out, and has the feet. Yes the lower the ranking the more risk, but UNT has also develop these guys. We have to hope that the new OL Coach is someone who has the ability to coach up kids and help them develop. If he can do that, then getting lower kids will be fine.

  8. I do remember that it got pretty loud with just that many people. Can you imagine when we actually fill it on a constant basis!!! I think the design was meant to maximize the noise... I hope we get there soon!!! Like this year!!!!! Win Baby, WIN!!!!

  10. Uh...how? The crowds will be bigger for Houston, it gives our fans a chance to travel, and if we win it helps us A LOT more in recruiting than beating Army.

  14. Maybe, but Mccarney's staff was doing the same thing. Look how many of those guys we took before their senior seasons had started back in 2012 and 2013: Rod Lancaster https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2012/roderick-lancaster-134876 Sir Calvin Wallace https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2012/sir-calvin-wallace-44238 Rex Rollins https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2012/rex-rollins-77328 Malik Dilonga (had a ULM offer) https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2012/malik-dilonga-121723 Jarrian Roberts https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2012/jarrian-roberts-101360 John Shilleci https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2013/john-schilleci-25749 Dominick Walker https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2013/dominic-walker-85139 Calvin Minor https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2013/calvin-minor-65210 Sed Ellis https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2013/sed-ellis-72401 Harrison Sorge https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2013/harrison-sorge-95741 Those are the upperclassmen (or would have been) of a 1-11 team. Identifying your guys is good. I'm scared of Littrell and co over relying on their scouting abilities and those abilities being contradictorily better than those of their peers. NFL GMs and college coaches who put too much faith that they are the "smartest guy in the room" usually pay the price.

  15. Apparently, there is a school called Evergreen State College in Washington State. Three years ago, some outfit named it the most liberal school in America: http://blog.seattlepi.com/seattlepolitics/2014/11/17/survey-finds-evergreen-is-americas-most-liberal-campus-go-geoducks/ . However, some students there are saying that one of their liberal professors is a racist and have gotten the school's president to give them a raft of concessions with no real investigation into their complaints: https://www.insidehighered.com/news/2017/05/30/escalating-debate-race-evergreen-state-students-demand-firing-professor How do you view this? The professor in question appears to be a guy who is a liberal academically as you can find; and, therefore, seemingly the perfect fit for the most liberal school in America. Is there a real chance of freedom of speech being lost when this group of students ages? Or, do they mostly mellow out once they get laid, get jobs, and get out in the real world, the way many 60s leftists did? And, from those longer in the tooth, how are this generation of protesters different if at all, from those in the 1960s? From my perspective, it's difficult to have much sympathy for the professor or president because they have built their reputation and careers on politically liberal principles. And now, it would seems, it is a case of the students biting the hands that have fed them. I certainly can empathize, at minimum, with the professor because he makes a rational argument, yet is called a racist simply for being white. Again, though, he likely believes in the vast majority of what the kids complain of...unless, and until, of course, his job is on the line. Finally, is it weird that the "mainstream media" is nowhere on this story? Many questions, but I'd really like to hear from those involved in college academics most of all. Just for a point of reference, here is what the students demanded, and what the president gave them: Demands: http://www.cooperpointjournal.com/2017/05/27/complete-list-of-student-demands/ Concessions: http://www.cooperpointjournal.com/2017/05/27/george-bridges-statement-in-response-to-student-demands-delivered-in-the-longhouse-on-friday-may-26/

  17. I have not seen this posted anywhere else so will add it here. The UNT athletic department web site now shows that the Iowa game will be telecast on ESPN 2. The game is scheduled to start at 2:30 PM on Saturday, September 16. While that is not the game that I would prefer for a national telecast let's hope the team plays well and gets some good publicity for the program.

  20. My issue isn't with Wren Baker or Coach Littrell. I think we as a fan base we have accepted mediocrity for so long that we get excited for any kid that chooses UNT. I'm just of the mindset that you can't outscheme quality players. I get a bit wary of our self-evaluations when seemingly little to no other schools seem to agree on what our staff sees, especially those that run a similar scheme as us. If we're getting guys that fit our system, all of our offensive commits would have LaTech/Texas Tech/Washington State/Insert Air Raid team here offers. That doesn't seem to be the case often and it worries me. That being said, for all the negativity I've expressed, welcome Mr. Brown. I hope you work your ass off and become an all conference lineman for us

  21. If accurate, we get a team with some national name recognition right away while we have a coach who, with his new contract, we should expect to field a team that will be damn competitive in the game. What was attendance last time they were here? I won't say I'm necessarily "pumped" because I'm not optimistic about winning yet, but I definitely see this as a positive addition to the schedule (given that we, as of yet, have no details of the deal). Regarding the favorability of this compared to the Army game - as the son of an AFA grad and brother of an Anapolis grad, you might think I have great animosity for West Point, but I really don't. I'm far more interested in Texas programs. I love the recent success of the service academies, but I have reason to follow them more closely than other people folks. I don't know if it's an age thing or what, but I know several people who are unaware that the academies have D1 football teams. I would speculate that those same people are, at the same time, aware of UH football. Which game would get a better TV broadcast? I can't say. But which team name makes folks (or maybe just folks around my age) perk up their ears? I'd say Houston. ETA: If the noise about none of the games being at Apogee then I will join the first rabble I see headed to campus with fire and pitchforks.

  28. If true, I don't know how we could ever agree to a 2-for-1 with a non-P5 school. I sure hope we get another home game to go with SMU in 2022 as we'd have two non-home games if this is indeed the case. 2019 8/31 - Abilene Christian 9/07 - at SMU 9/14 - Army 10/05 - at Wisconsin 2022 9/10 – SMU 9/17 – at Memphis 2023 9/09 - at SMU 9/16 - Memphis

  30. No. But I bet it wouldn't have made more than a 2k difference. And "based on [my] comment"? Please note the word "more" (different from "everything") in my post. I was responding to a post that omitted a very key fact in trying to make a strained point.

  31. So, based on your comment, would you state that we would have drawn the same crowd by hosting Lamar, ACU, etc... just because the stadium was new and shiny?
    2 points
  32. Ridiculous comment. That game was the first game ever played in Apogee. The fanfare had much more to do with the shiny new stadium than with the opponent we happened to be playing.
    2 points
  33. Any guesses which UNT game has the highest attendance in Apogee history and third highest of all time? It would be nice to sell this game out to make up for not getting there on opening day of the stadium.

  35. Or, he could be like a number of other kids that we have offered this year that end up receiving a number of other offers after us. This young man was first team all district in a strong district that includes The Woodlands, Lufkin, etc... We have had a few OL recruits in the past that weren't heavily recruited that turned out to be pretty good over their careers. Let's welcome this young man and see how he develops.

  38. I think with the great seasons Houston has had recently, the average fan will like this better than the Army serious.

  39. I'll be there too. But, we would certainly benefit from having a large Mean Green crowd on TV supporting our team. It would help generate more local interest in this series.

  40. It would be more encouraging if he was showing the speed and athleticism in his film and was already in the 285 lbs range, but then again if he was already at that size he would be much more highly rated. He looks athletic and looks like he has potential. However, we are betting a lot on potential. At least he has an entire year and a half to fill out and get stronger. Welcome aboard!

  41. Welcome aboard! Glad we're getting early commitments. The staff is getting kids they offered early, that's a good sign in my book.

  43. I feel like the fan base has been enamored with Littrell from day 1. People have gotten excitement from the smallest things he has done, including things that the prior regime was doing as well. All for the simple reason, IMO, that the fan base has wanted this hire to be successful so, so bad. And that makes complete sense and there's really nothing wrong with that. What does concern me is the similar unconditional infatuation that Baker seems to have for Littrell; a coach he didn't even hire. That is very concerning to me, especially when I start thinking about the idea of Baker needing to part ways with a hire of his own. When we extended Mac, there were clear areas of concern in which he had not addressed his capabilities surrounding. To that point he had only signed one high school o-lineman who was capable of playing meaningful snaps (Cyril Lemon). He had yet to prove he could sign a legit FBS-caliber QB. Same for defensive line, as all four starters on the bowl team were inherited from the prior regime. The bowl team featured 7/11 starters on offense and 6/11 starters on defense who were inherited from Dodge. And his recruiting was subpar, especially when looking at who else was recruiting the signees of our three classes to that point (not many other FBS schools). We're on Littrell's third recruiting class and of the last 14 commits he has received between the 2017 and 2018 class, 13 of them have been players who did not have any other active FBS offers. And that one who does has been tweeting at coaches from other schools asking them to follow back, and is clearly looking at other options. I know we had a decent year on the field, but it's disappointing to see another extension/raise before we see ability to win recruiting battles consistently.
    2 points
  44. I still have no idea, why this was necessary. This new contract is not going to stop any P5 school from going after Littrell and actually mades it more difficult for NT to terminate him if the team falters. I guess if he actually has a winning season this year, a new contract will have to re-negotiated. I hope this does not end up like the McCarney new contract. Who by the way had a much better one year, but also had recruiting issues.
