  1. this******** My prediction: 3 helmets 3 jerseys 3 pants then 2 different cleats then mix and match alot like Tech and TCU. Jersey quality will be the nicest in UNT history and tops in G5 But the 80% on the board will find something to gripe about them.. #GMG

  7. People are sleeping on Andrew Tucker. As I noted last week, the kid has the strongest legs among the RB's. He's not the shiftiest or the fastest, but he has some power. He needs to be our short yardage and goalline back. We despartely need to get out of shotgun at the goal line. It just doesn't seem practical and it wasn't gelling all that well today. I don't believe BV took note of it, but Wyche had a couple very good cut back against the grain runs today. It's the best I've seen Nic Smith perform today. He took a slip screem for about 45 yds down the far sideline. He also showed good vision and patience in the hole which was very promising, and to me the most difficult aspect for a RB to learn. And it's not a stutter stepping kind of vision like a Jimmerson. It was a peripheral wait for his blocks set up kind of vision. Then he showed a good burst when it opened. By the time I got there both Guyton and Wilson had shoulder pads off. Not sure if they even participated today. Kelvin Smith made a good 25 yd reception on a 50/50 ball down the seam thrown by Fine. QB play was decent at best. I think this competition between Fine and Shanbour is much closer than people suspect. Shanbour works the middle of the field and for the 2nd scrimmage in a row Fine didn't even attempt to unless it's a go-route down the seam. Shanbour also runs better than Fine IMO. I'm kond of eager to see what Shanbour could do running the ball on scrambles in live competition. Murray and TJ got into a 5 sec face mask shoving altercation down at the goal line. Both were simultaneously pulled and coached up by different coaches. Rutherford was getting 1st team reps today. Like BV noted, run game pulled the weight today even with Wilson sitting. Kind of worrisome for our D. We need English in there ASAP. I think WR #14 is one of the freshmen. He certainly looks the part. Needs about 10-12 lb added to that frame though. I came away very pleased with the OL. They were blowing people off the ball all day and showed some athleticism in the screen game. Pass pro is significantly better. QB's can't statue it up for 3 seconds expecting to get 3 more.

America: Love It or Leave It (but if you do leave it, make a seditious new flag when you go based purely on the institutions of racial superiority. then 152 years after your leaders cowardly tuck tail, definitely hold on to their inflated tales of heroism and memorialize/celebrate those who wished to divide the nation in the name of owning another human and wave that flag and defend their statued place in society despite their ethos being antithetical to all a true American would hold dear) ya. millennials created race issues in america.

I'd be willing to guess that she is not only a fan of college football, but is also quite knowledgeable about it. I am really liking our university leadership as far as athletics are concerned.

  13. No, SMU is getting more votes because it is over 200 miles closer than UTSA, has been a foe much longer, not to mention SMU's not so veiled efforts to keep NT out of CUSA the first time NT was a candidate. Plus SMU is an ex-SWC school that has deemed themselves much better than NT basically forever. Plus it is the epitome of a large state school versus a self-described elite private school. As far as recruiting, do you really think recruits are going to be more impressed with a victory over UTSA than SMU? I don't and particularly area recruits.

  24. My hope: White pants with the double green stripe like the throwbacks. This is our only option. No green or black pants. Green jersey with the white stripes on the sleeve, again, just like the throwbacks. A white option with green stripes. Black accents. Green helmet, green chrome helmet, white helmet with a black version and silver chrome version for special occassions. Yes, I prefer traditional over Oregon/Baylor tricked up versions.

  26. I would tend to agree, but the two greatest UNT games I've attended in my life were the Halloween game against Rice (the stand) and the subsequent Heart of Dallas Bowl game against UNLV where I watched Derek Thompson pop back in a dislocated kneecap and lead us to victory. Both games had black uniforms. This has made me somewhat partial to them.

She's a member of the "Network with Gators" LinkedIn group. I feel like I'm stalking now, but looks like she has a son that currently plays football for Virginia Tech. 28. I like to think long term. I understand the that SMU is local, we hate them., and they have tried to hold us back for forever. But... Here is my opinion, and why a win over UTSA is more important. Long term, UTSA will pass SMU. If we can focus on the larger picture, we can pass SMU too. UTSA has the entire San Antonio market. There is no other FBS football program in the 7th largest city in America. San Antonio is also one of the fasting growing cities in America. They don't have to share San Antonio with an NFL team either. UTSA has almost nothing right now. As they develop their infrastructure and build their programs, They will eclipse SMU. It is just a matter of how soon. We do not have the community advantages UTSA does. But, by focusing on developing a Mean Green program that can out recruit and out play UTSA, we can elevate our athletics. As both programs rise through the college football pecking order, our fan base will grow and become more engaged. Lets face it. SMU has maxed out their potential. They are what they are. We need to focus on developing a program that consistently beats UTSA. If we do that we will be in a better place. And, we will be waving to SMU in our rear view mirror. I believe this is the best path for North Texas.

  29. I get WAY more personal satisfaction and pride when we beat SMU than UTSA. We could debate for hours which win would benefit the program more so for me it comes down to who would I be more pumped beating...the answer is without a doubt SMU. And I think our fanbase is lying to themselves if they say differently.

  31. UTSA is not getting picked over SMU just because they are a conference foe. It's close enough where that helps, just helps, push UTSA over the edge among a few other factors. Iowa vs a conference opponent in this question is such a huge gap in favor of Iowa that getting a conference win doesn't push it over the edge in that case. And the fact that we're losing more recruits to SMU than UTSA illustrates that it *should* be a much more winnable matchup for us in recruiting. We are on a more level playing field with UTSA, so a win against them could help swing the pendulum in our favor with recruits. I don't think right now a win against SMU is swinging the pendulum in our favor in recruiting. And yeah, of course we need sustained winning and not just individual wins against specific opponents, but isolating these wins ceteris paribus I think UTSA does more for us where it matters. Within our conference and in recruiting, because basically no one cares about us outside of that realm unless we're beating a P5 or going undefeated/close to it.

  36. And I'm all for this IF this is the long-term identity that UNT seeks. I still think there's internal debate as to whether UNT continues to be the everyman's regional school where you can go get a solid education and become a good, upstanding member of working society vs. becoming something that students aspire to attend because the research opportunities are really up there. As my kid begins the TAMS program next week, we are already in the process of deciding where she goes after that. Other schools in active conversation right now are Rice, Princeton, Columbia, and Cal Tech. Each offers something that UNT doesn't, but also comes with a potential financial burden that I may not be able to shoulder, depending on other variables. For whatever anybody feels about Ernie, he's taken some pretty giant steps in recent times to make UNT an attractive option for graduating TAMS students to remain in Denton. The financial burden would be lifted for me, and there are potentially some really solid undergraduate research opportunities for my daughter to pursue that she might not have access to as just another face in the crowd at other schools. Sorry to make this about me, but all of these developments are affecting me personally right now. I'm hoping for a positive outcome. It wouldn't suck at all for my daughter and I to share the same alma mater.

  37. Perhaps her contacts within NASA will help the university gain far greater research opportunities for the faculty and students. North Texas is trying to further develop and improve its research programs, maybe they had that in mind with this hire. Purely speculative on my part.

  39. I think Smatresk does, and he's the one who matters. Things that go on at the Denton Campus falls under Smatresk's control. Her job, will be to grow/advance the UNT system as a whole. This mainly includes procuring money from underneath every rock she can possibly find. If she thinks athletics is a way to do that, then that will mean even greater things for us. If not, then it's still up to Smatresk to keep up his vision for North Texas. Also, it doesn't hurt that the Chairman of the BOR (AKA: her boss) is a 7-figure-donor to Athletics.

  40. Being better than Jackson should not even be a consideration. This one is out of the blue for sure. Not the usual politician most pick or either a proven academic. On the surface, this at least signals a continued emphasis on STEM subjects and increasing research funding. Overall, based on what I have read about her, this actually has a change to be a home run of a hire. I am not sure this is true at all.

  41. I'm all for having a diversity in terms of views, backgrounds, life experiences of speakers in events associated with UNT. For the life of me though, what has Trump Junior done to even remotely be worthwhile to have a place in a speaker series?
    2 points
  42. Yep, I get it. I just find it odd that someone would dismiss a speaker without hearing what they have to say. I was not a fan of Bill Clinton but I had the opportunity to hear him speak just after he left office. Although our politics didn't necessarily align, I enjoyed his speech and listened without causing a scene. I expect the protesters to be out in force.

  43. Yes...understand that, but I was referring more to the "cookouts" held after the athletic dept sort of took it over. Understand the "original" started differently with you guys. And, by the way...the event you refer to is a Denton County Alumni Chapter event. And, while it is open to all, the focus is on Denton County Chapter members. Thus, local Denton County members. Tarrant County has an event at the FW Zoo, Dallas held one at the Frontiers of Flight Museum and Collin County held an event at The Frisco Roughriders game.

  44. Perfectly stated. SMU all the way. That said, if this poll were rephrased, "Which game would you hate losing more?", it would be competitive. Losing to a community college is flat-out embarrassing.
