  2. Just when I thought all the great Texan hospitality was 100%, enter Froggy. You remember your MWC "one and done" win in Boise? Decked in TCU purple that day in the stands, in Boise stores/eateries were Idaho fans. Our large Boise base cheered you guys on. My plan to tour Ft. Worth and your campus is questionable now after insulting the UI and my UNT friends. By the way, do some research on UI and UNT football history. Not only are these great academic institutions, they have their fair share playing (have played) on Sunday. Idaho fans are proud, as our UNT fans. Here's a brief primer: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Idaho_Vandals_football Admittedly, not quite the storied prestige of TCU, but we are unconditionally loyal through the good and bad. Just like you, I imagine, have been through Tohill, Shofner, Dry, Wacker and Sullivan . . .but you do sound like a small froogy, so you still may have been that wink in Horny's eyes? You do talk about those 26 years of mediocrity, right?

  4. This posts makes me want to abandon this board and Vito's blog until game day just so that I have no clue who's going to play on game day. But then again I was a kid who opened my presents before Christmas and re-wrapped them so my parents didn't find out.

  5. Chancellor is the best kick returner North Texas has seen since Brock McGrew . . . maybe better. He holds the all-time North Texas records for K.O. return yards in a game, season, and career. Do you remember his 2 90+ yard returns for TDs against K-State the last game in 2010? Or his 285 return yards against Houston in 2011? He's turned out to be a pretty good receiver, too. He was our leading receiver in 2011, and certainly would have been in 2012 had it not been for his injury. He had 2 TD catches against LSU. Everybody remembers Jimmerson's run against LaLa last year, but we don't win that game without Brelan's 34-yard TD run. Did you know that Brelan was our all-purpose yards leader in 2011, on a team that had Lance Dunbar cranking out yards? 1628 yards that season, a mark that stands as the #6 North Texas all-time best. So I really don't know what you mean when you say "Potential is all Chancellor has shown." Do you mean he hasn't received the big postseason awards? Do you mean he hasn't carried us to a bowl win? Well, okay, if that's what you mean. But you'd have a hard time naming players on this team who have already shown more than Brelan has shown.

  6. I think that I see a pattern here. Even if you know...keep them guessing. The coaches are doing that with every position. Quarterbacks? All four have been mentioned. (Note: Gill is apparently no longer on the team and Williams now has #6). They could have decided to go with one or they may want to see how each handles game conditions. Running backs? Byrd has experience but Pegram is looking good and Jimmerson will play. Coach Grant did name the top two or three receivers but was noncommittal on several hot prospects. Only Lemon and Y'Barbo were mentioned as locks on an established (except for center) offensive line. No one has even asked about the tight ends. It wouldn't matter if they had. On the defensive side even Whitfield is in jeopardy. Orr and Trice are leaders but no mention of the progress of any others. Methinks that it's fairly well known who will play early but I don't doubt that more will see action this year because our depth appears to be much better. I'm beginning to not want to know. It would be like knowing what's in each Christmas package and spoiling the opening. I like the element of surprise. I may be disappointed that a personal favorite doesn't start or get significant minutes but I'll get over it. It's wide open! Oh, wait a minute, hasn't that been used?

  12. Well, it does say "hit 6" and not "finish with 6". Maybe it's short for "hit 6 as fast as we can first and then see what our end of season goal should be," but that would be a bit long to squeeze all together with a hashtag.

Please use as little tape as possible to do the job. We're not covering windows for a hurricane here. Many hands make light work. GO MEAN GREEN

  15. If we win big vs. Idaho, why not keep wearing the throwback jerseys at home for the season.?..perhaps we could catch lightning in a bottle by wearing them. A lot of schools have at least two uniform looks each season. Seems a waste to just wear the throwbacks one time.

  16. This isn't Middle school football. You start a quarterback and make him your leader until he proves he can't. Game day is not a day for trial and error. Period.

  17. I always love the revisionist history on this forum and the over inflation of worth DMac did not "choose brock" over Scotty Young Scotty Young choose Louisiana Tech over north Texas Scotty Young was transferring to LaTech on June 9th of 2012 and the brockster was still a Fighting Artichoke at that time and did not look to north Texas until September of 2012 it is hard to "choose" one player over another when one player is already enrolled at another university 3 months before the other "choice" decided to come to north Texas #Hit4Plus2MoralVictories

  18. Question all you want , but it's directly from someone at practice. Someone who sees who is getting the snaps with what teams. Believe me , I was shocked too. I projected Brock to be our starter. Might just be Mac trying to light a fire under the kid. I hope that's the case

  19. That just seems crazy, the way Coach Mac was pumping him up at the radio show last year, and how he was performing in practice. And considering whom Coach Mac chose him over. So what's going on? Is he just not trying? Is he having a hard time grasping Coach C's system? Is he inaccurate? Is he still coming back from his injury? What is the deal?

  21. My wife has a CHL and I can confirm she knows exactly nothing about guns. I dare say that neither do my mother-in-law or sister-in-law who took the class with her. Popping off a few clips and watching some video's and taking a test does not make one a gun expert in any way. I think that people should be able to carry guns, but can confirm that although my wife took the class very seriously, she is no gun carrying expert, and has much less experience shooting a gun than I do, and I do not have a CHL.

  22. And...it was Harry himself who started this thread in the football section. Got to love it...but, there are a few football/WBB dates similarities...like Nov. 9th and, of course Dec. 21st! Good looking schedule for the ladies. I like.

  25. Yeah, I know the Denton events are always bigger than the others elsewhere but that caravan was gonna happen regardless if we were changing conferences or not. I went to the one in Fort Worth right after that and there was around 40 people show up. Nothing special. But the same day our press conference occurred La Tech had a university and city wide blowout that was advertised across their website with a slashing banner as the "Biggest party in La Tech history" and invited everyone and had food and the band and cheerleaders,.... the whole enchilada. Our version of that is this weekend...14 months after the fact.. Hopefully they might have some shirts to give out? Rick

  26. . . No apologies necessary. But I'm not sure your aware of the history behind the event or the sarcasm(not bitterness) that followed. Just to be sarcastic I have been posting examples of other programs using open practice/scrimmages for several years now just to remind that it's still a tool we should still be utilizing. Back in the 90's when we didnt have a pot to piss in, SUMG, Plummer and GreenGrenadeII started the poster hangings all around town and inspiried a fall event with the team that really showed several of us that if enough folks got involved it could make a difference. Then. Harry, Even, greenjoe, meanrob and many others started hosting a get together at someone's house as a MGC gathering and the coaches were invited and we got to ask them about the battles we saw in practice and this event was well attended and was the same time gmg.com got off the ground pretty good. it was the time when so many of us realized how many others shared the same passion..Mean Green Football. Eventually SoundMan, Harry, Even, Adler, SilverEagle, VeryGreen and too many others here to list started the Kick-Off cookout by cooking several hundred pounds of mesquite smoked brisket for the players, coaches and their families and any fan who showed up to watch the game. It gave us all a chance to come together one last time before the real battle began. And of course it was free to all who showed up. It also gave the AD dept a chance to get the hook into potential donors and ticket holders at no expense from their budget. Somehow.... it eventually evolved into the AD dept taking it over and charging for it, then Dodge closed the scrimmage and the food got considerably worse. Now, it is nothing more than a two hour gathering at the hottest time of the day..(gonna get a break though this weekend)....with no scrimmage and nothing for the fan to really look forward to but familiar stump speeches we have all heard before and some free popcorn and soft drinks. Yeah, there is also going to be the big jamboree announcement this time for entry to C-USA but that window has passed about 14 months back. It's like celebrating New Years on January 5th. So all that effort went to waste IMO. It had a good start that should be by now one of the biggest events of the fall next to opening day and Homecoming. The fans would get to see a peek at what they are paying for, the team gets a good meal and the AD dept has a chance to maximize efforts to sell tickets and t shirts. Maybe if the team starts to win again it can reach it's potential. We have a great place to host it, I just simply think for little to nothing added ineffort it could be much better. Rick

  27. I have no issue with setting achievable but difficult goals. 6 wins or more is not going to be easy this year. It would certainly be a huge step in the right direction, and it is a meaningful number of wins. Honestly I will be astonished if it happens, but it IS doable. We are where we are. In the overall scheme of things, yes it's deplorable that 6 wins against this competition is a stretch for North Texas in 2013, but we have to look forward, at least that is, as long as we can keep looking.

  28. Newspapers are having tough times with the internet and all. That is why the Fort Worth Star Telegram is now mostly a shadow of its ol' self as far as number of pages per daily paper plus less emphases of DFW area sports coverage outside of FW. SMU gets less than we do if that is possible. Star Telegram also cut their sports staff down, too, which relegated UNT to almos blurb coverage and now with us many time included with the Sunday AM paper roundup of Texas college scores with short stories. I wish UNT had a special correspondent to cover the Mean Green for the FWST and maybe an apprentice from the North Texas Daily? GMG!

  29. Well, that makes about 200,000 (give/take) northern Texas UNT alums who don't get it and have never gotten it, either. As we know, others of our entire UNT family who buy our gear don't necessarily go to athletic events. A Sad Story I'd Bet Many Others of You Have Also Experienced One Very Similar: Years ago, I was out at what is now the Sports Authority across from Hulen Mall. The previous year they had 2 or 3 racks full of North Texas gear from which I bought a couple of articles and apparently UNT sales had gone very good but then the next year.............NO UNT SPORTS GEAR! I asked a young lady where the North Texas gear was and she said: THERE IS NOT ENOUGH INTEREST IN NORTH TEXAS FOR US TO STOCK IT! I told her I felt she may be wrong about that and told her about the 2 or 3 racks that had been at this very store the year before that apparently had sold out and you know what? It almost seemed as if what I had said actually pissed her off. Then ....A BRIEF MOMENT WITH THAT SPORTS AUTHORITY SALES STAFFER OF SOME UNT EDUCATING: I told her we had the largest of all Texas-based universities group of alums than any other single school including UT and TAMU and she looked at me as if I didn't know what the heck I was talking about. All this taking place less than 50 minutes from the Denton City limits, too. MORAL OF STORY? What all this above means to me is that North Texas needs someone of an official capacity educating our very D-FW area sports gear stores managers, corporate buyers, shoppers etc, etc, etc, even if you have to bring them & their families to an Apogee Stadium luxury suite or prime seats (if available) on a Game Day to wine, dine and entertain them. it is still so amazing how you can catch flies with honey (and an open bar, too). Addendum: I was told that it was the corporate buyers who call on all these sports gear franchise stores who made the big and final decisions on which schools to puff or promote with their respective gear. GMG!

  33. Hey...agree...except that this was how long ago? And, unfortunately for all of us...long before the new branding and licensing program was put into place by UNT. Just "doing it" now is not quite that realistic. It may be an "excuse" for you and whoever would go out and do these "underground" so to speak, but HIGHLY doubtful these could be produced today under proper "authority" and OK, nor could they be sold through any area of UNT...like the Apogee store for instance. Don't know if screen printers check this sort of thing or not, but lots here feel it would be easy to get done in a clandestine sort of way...hope they do...I am a buyer if they do.

  34. You know what's embarrassing? People here actually interpreting this as our team's ultimate goal. They're going to go into every game to win it. Stop crying as if they circled 6 games as losses.

  35. Then the other team will know we are going to throw it on 1st down, so we will have to go back to running it on 1st down. But then the other team will know we are going to run on 1st down. Man, we're screwed.

  37. Oh, I believe it. I did get a trip into Tulsa one summer. Flew in and got off the plane and immediately was soaked. So, yes, there is absolutely nothing that can come close to what the team and fans are going to experience. But I look forward to all the other stuff my niece has planned in the four days. The game, tailgating, meeting you guys is top priority though. It is a great measuring stick for us to compare our team's fundamentals-discipline to last few years of big plays, but only to be called back due to someone fighting an opponent half a field away. Flags. Flags. Flags. You will see all business, little, if any, jawing ---- I think. Anyhow, this is fun. I have maps out of your area, reading the history of the area and just calling it my get away with fellow Vandal fans. Wife is staying, She has work. I am in year three of retirement. Never have been in the great state of Texas. Niece (lives in Irving) has warned me for the furnace blast. LOL

  39. We should have unis using every shade of green our colors have been over the years. Kind of like a rainbow of green. Striped, similar to the old Houston Astros unis. They'd be FABULOUS! (Wish there was a sarcasm font). Also, they'd prove once you try to please everyone, you please no one. On a serious tip, I think I'm the only person on this board who's not a fan of the SOW, AND likes the script. I do, however, think the interlocking NT is by far the best.

  40. Love the idea behind representing history but the mismatching colors make me feel like we're a little mickey mouse. But, I suppose everything needed to be just as it was. As long as they win, we'll work on the "look good doing it" with time.

  43. You don't either (unless you actually meant assault weapon, which would be anything that could be used to commit an asssault). You are 0-3 in your examples. The correct definition of an assault rifle is a weapon that is selective fire (semi-auto and full auto), magazine fed, and fires an intermediate rifle cartridge. A Tommy gun is a submachine gun (and already legal to own if you can find one to buy and pay all the extra taxes). A BAR is a light machine gun (and legal to own if you can find one and pay the extra taxes). A bazooka would be considered a destructive device (legally) and is usually not legal to own in working condition, though I think there are exceptions that make it legal.
