Not sure why you think div 3, NCAA is a step above NAIA. Div 3 is a non-scholarship division, while div 1 of the NAIA has 11 men's basketball ships.

I did not know that. So, we're playing at a higher level of competition than the Comets, thank God.

NAIA schools are actually able to offer more scholarships (marginally) than D2 schools and even D1 in some sports. The schools tend to be really small and are primarily located in the same states in the SEC.

NAIA Schools can offer combinations of Athletic, Academic, and for need scholarships since they are not part of the NCAA house, not to mention there is no 5 year clock for athletes. The top NAIA programs are equal to or better than NCAA DII programs in all sponsored sports. The highest concentration of NAIA schools are located between the Mississippi river and the Rocky mountains but California has a number of strong programs.

No one has any pure age restrictions that I know of, but you have 5 (6) years to play 4 in D1 starting when you first enroll in college FT, with the only exceptions being military service or church missions. A 59 year old played at NCAA D3 Sul Ross a few years ago.
