Some Good News Regarding Support

While working the Mean Green Club Phone-A-Thon this evening some good news was shared with me. At this point in the year we are over $100,000 ahead of last year's Mean Green Club donations pace AND We are ahead of last year's pace in football season ticket sales as well.

For me, this was excellent news. Here's hoping that donations and season ticket sales continue on this pace.

Lots of calls made this evening by Mean Green Club volunteer reps and members of the Mean Green coaching staffs. Thanks to all who volunteered their time to help The Mean Green and thanks to all who actually took our calls and committed support for the Mean Green in 2013-2014.

It was a positive experience and a good chance to talk with fellow Mean Greener's.

On a side note...everyone I contacted pledged support and were very positive in their comments. Really made me proud to be a member of the great Mean Green Nation!

That's awesome. We're still only going to drop a couple hundred bucks here and there for the next couple of years until all of the student loans, etc are paid off but as we try to help grow the alumni base I'd like to know how I can help connect long-lost alums if possible. We can talk more about this later, but can you share info on how the rest of us can "sell" the MGC. I must admit I'm a bit "green", haha, on exactly what MGC donors get at different levels though I am familiar with it overall as a booster organization. I would resign this to a side conversation but in case others want to help develop the network, it could be useful information for all.

Well, I didn't want to brag, but I did kick several thousand "extra points" on my membership renewal this year. No need to thank me.<br /><br />But seriously, athletics hasn't called me in a while. I guess because I already renewed. But boy howdy do other campus departments call me. I like regaling tales to one in particular about hard difficult their inept bureaucracy made my life and how callous and uncaring they were about it. I also like dropping specific names as being personally responsible for my checks going to athletics, not them.<br /><br />I did, however, receive a letter from Shelby Tamura yesterday thanking donors and briefly describing her experiences as a student athlete at North Texas. It made me all warm and fuzzy inside. I do like to see kids taking true advantage of the opportunity.

Coach Benford called me...I had just renewed earlier in the day.

Thanks, drex...never any question about your support for the Mean Green. I heard part of that conversation last evening. Way cool. I think Coach Benford first got your bride on the line and she expertly handed the call off to you.

It was great having several members of the coaching staffs calling with the volunteers last evening. The basketball programs were well represented with Coaches Petersen, Benford, Lundy, Evans and Luster calling and I also saw, from football, Coaches Brown and Joseph. I certainly did not see all who participated as I was on the first row of phones in the phone bank while others were above me on the second row.

I can tell you one thing...Coach Petersen is tough to have next to you when you are on the phone and he is also...that guy is Loud! Ha. Just ask Silver Eagle. I was trying to talk with him with Coach Petersen on the phone next to me. I am certain that Silver thinks I am deaf. Also got to chat with MedPilot21. Thanks for answering the phone guys...and as with drex, I appreciate your continuing support for the Mean Green.

And...Oldguy....you are correct, we were not calling folks who had already renewed....appreciate your getting your renewal in with that increase...thanks a bunch.

I was kidding about the increase. What I gave last year was a little bit of a stretch. A little easier this year.

pfft...i only got a call from todd...damnit...i got hosed! i didn't answer, as i was busy drinking, but he did leave me a sexy voicemail...

Thanks for your support. If you pick up the phone next year, I'll gladly pass you off to the closest coach. When I called you, I was sitting next to Coach Benford.

      How Mean Green softball is shaping up in 2025 and beyond

      In my relatively short time as a Mean Green fan, I don't think I've seen a team so carried by seniors. This weekend's series was the last three games at Lovelace for 10 Mean Green seniors, and all but one (Truitt) was either an everyday starter or saw significant playing time. Here's who will be returning barring any transfers. All classifications are what they will be in 2025. Likely starters (in my opinion) Rylee Nicholson (SR) - UT Cierra Simon (SR) - SS Madison Conley (SO) - UT Tatum Sparks (JR) - UT Elizabeth Moffitt (SO) - C Jodie Epperson (JR) - OF Returning Pitching Staff Skylar Savage (SR) Mackenzie Childers (JR) Kayleigh Smith (SO) Returning, but will they play? Mikaela Olguin (JR) - OF Emma Grahmann (SR) - IF Blayze McNemar (SO or RS-F?) - OF Maci George (SO or RS-F?) - IF There doesn't appear to be a website to find commits for softball, so through social media, here are the incoming freshmen I have found: Katy Brock, OF, Mabank Shelby Buffington, P, Franklin Page (Tennessee) Rylie Harris, C, Forney Gracie Mahoney, P, Macomb Dakota (Michigan) - another 6 footer, like Skylar Ausha Moore, IF, Carl Albert HS (Midwest City, OK) Taylor Platt, OF, Argyle Committed Inbound Freshmen for 2026 Eva Daniels, IF, Forney Laila Nobles, IF, Pearland Addie Perry, UT/C, Aledo Love the Metroplex talent we are bringing in. Forney's currently the #1 team in the state. But looks like we still have a handful of spots to fill next year. Going to need to improve the hitting and power. Maybe we can land some home run threats in the portal who want to get closer to home. I'll post stories and highlights of the commits shortly.

      It's easier for us to say it's fun since we're not the ones who have to recruit an entire new team every year, but it's honestly exciting to see how the new team is built. The max exodi of beloved players sucks, but in this new age losing guys like TP, Drez, Rubin and Aaron doesn't have to mean a several-year rebuild. Now we can "retool" and even get better. I think this year was more of a gut punch because it felt to me and many others that Rubin and Aaron were Mean Green for life. They've been the constant leaders throughout the past turnover. But even healthy we weren't the most talented team in the conference. And I trust Hodge. The past seven years Grant and Hodge have run a clean program and as much as I love the guys who have played for us, I trust Hodge and Forte will continue recruiting players who will be good representatives of the university, even if only for a year. I also agree we need two more PF's - at least one who can space the floor shooting 3's. Assuming we have at least three scholarships left, so assume we'll see another guard. I'd like to see us bring on one guy who's averaged 18PPG or more. Doesn't matter which position though it'd be a nice changeup for it to be a high scoring big man.

      The last home games of the 2023-24 school year

      Weather has become a factor in a lot of games this season. Wet spring has really made this softball season pleasant. Feel like we had several 90+ degree games last season.
