Sunday Selection Show @ The Pourhouse

I think the Lycium would be a good size and easier for students who stay on campus during Spring Break. The Pourhouse patio won't look like a good idea if it rains.

i'll be in vegas at a sportsbook watching this and placing a bet!!! GO MEAN GREEN!!!

i would love to be here for this and think the pourhouse is a good venue for this event.

The point of hosting a selection show event is for fans to interact and "be with" the coach and team as the selection is announced. To see the team's reaction and cheer for them.

The venue needs to be large enough to enable everyone to be together that is there for that show. I love the Pourhouse's support for NT athletics but unless they clear out the tables in the main dining room I don't know where they have the space to put 200-300 people together at that location.

SUMG and NT80, I definitely don't disagree with either of you on that. The actual being there around the team when it happens. The media room probably is too small in that regard. I think everyone envisions in just packed with MG faithful, Sundays are always slow especially early evening/afternoon. I'd say lets see how it goes. I'm planning on this team going to many more tourneys so we'll try out some different venues if this doesnt work

I appreciate the comments about the place. Don't ever hold back either because it's not personal.

I agree, no one wants to feel crammed in there. But I'd argue that it's better to fill out a smaller room than to have an empty feeling large one. I don't mind standing for the entire show and then eating afterwards. I'd prefer that to having an empty room with plenty of seating.

Wow, what a great "problem" to have. Trying to figure out if a place is big enough to hold all the fans who might turn out! When was the last time this was a "problem"? I, for one, hope this turns into an annual "problem" and not just for basketball. I could argue the site both ways, but the fact that we have a "Selection Show" event is enough! When one is looking for media coverage it is always better to see a packed room (even if the room is smallish) than a big half-empty space.

In the past when I have watched "Selection Shows" I do not recall many being held at "commercial" establishments. I tend to think most are held on-campus. BUT, the Pourhose is a great "friend", they have cold beer and good food. It is a "good thing" that UNT is returning the favor and helping a "friend" on what is normally a fairly slow day I would assume...at least at that time on a Sunday.

GO MEAN GREEN! This is a great time to be a member of the Mean Green Nation.

I love the Pourhouse....great food, great service. But to me, if you're going to be at this event...you want to be in the same area (media room or patio) where the coaches and players are. If you're saying that all the other TVs are going to be on....that doesn't do much for me. For one thing, it's not as if UNT has the whole place reserved. So what if you're watching it in the restaurant area, and a lot of the other customers are folks who aren't there for the Selection Show. They're gonna be talking during the show....and you probably won't be able to hear it. So the fact that it's gonna be on all the TVs...doesn't do much for me. Please no offense intended. I love your brother's sports bar. Great place, great food. I just don't think it's the best venue for this event.

What if they/we ask the PourHouse to put the sound on throughout the whole place? Wonder if they would do that. I love food there and think it is a good place to watch a game, but I agree there would be a better place on campus for sure for this type of thing.

I've never been to the pourhouse since I live in Houston and so I don't know the layout. Is it possible that the patio can open up to a type of theater? Meaning that if the screens are big enough, folks can pour out into a grass area/parking area that is roped off as an extension of the patio? If it is roped off with some type of barrier, they might can still serve alcohol, but I am not sure how the permits and licenses work in that case. Stebo can probably shed some light. In this case, good planning with a rented tent, etc., and this wouldn't be so bad. Because here you can have beer. :)

Well, the patio as I recall goes right up to the water. So unless we hand out kayaks, small boats and life preservers, I'm thinking that option is off the table.

The Pourhouse is a terrible place to hold this! That theater room is too small. This should be done at the Pit.

Yes, because the one place that has supported NT athletics all season long should be blackballed on a day when they stand to reap significant gain. Great way to build loyalty with local business owners.

Have the selection show on every TV throughout the bar, have tv's outside, problem solved.

First, there are many businesses that support UNT not just the Pourhouse. If the Athletic Department announced this even would have been at The Pit or the Athletic Center, I'm sure that Pourhouse would not have felt "blackballed."

Second, if I wanted to watch it on TV I can stay at home and drink cheaper beer. I was hoping UNT would treat this like the big event that it is and not have the gathering at a local bar that will pretty much not allow any guests into the media room. Count on it - between the team, their families, administrators, coaches and their families, only VIPs will be allowed in that room.

I bet if you got there 4 hours early you might have a shot at the media room, or you could sit on the patio and watch TV.

I don't think they would have felt blackballed at all, but boycotting it would send that message.

They are treating it like a big deal, they are planning on taking the place over.

These types of events are why he opened the place.

Also whats the harm in some average people being there and catching some Mean Green Fever.

I have nothing but respect for you Flyer for all you've done.

Isn't this the main problem with our base? the lack of financial support of the program and supporters of the program.

The Ball State game there was one of the best things I've watched on TV outside of Idaho or the NO Bowl in 02.

As I stated in the first place, ask Coach Jones why he picked the venue

I just want point out for the record, the Pourhouse supports THIS site (gomeangreen.com) and we truly appreciate them for that. The fact we are worrying over a crowd for this event is a GREAT problem in my book! The other establishments will talk the talk when it comes to UNT sports but Pourhouse walks the walk. I hope they benefit from UNT's success, they have taken the rare in Denton position of putting UNT first. GMG!

This also could be a sales opportunity for the Athletic Dept. If the venue had enough space this event could be used to sell SBC Champion T-shirts, MG apparel, and promote seat availability for basketball season ticket sales next season.

It's also about access. You want enough space to have access for donors, students, current season ticket holders, and general fans to feel a part of the event - not detached in another room watching it all on TV.
