Anyone Going To The Alabama Game?

I will be there, recommendations for tailgating areas to wander thru?

people tailgate all over campus, but the main area is the Quad. it's where Denny Chimes (clock tower like thing) and Gorgas Library are. it's about a block down from the stadium. if you stop by some of the tents, i'm sure people will offer you food and drink. i'd suggest just walking around the campus. there's a few historical sites. such as Foster auditorium, where the govenor wallace stood in the school house door in 1963. also check out "the strip". it's on the other side of the stadium as the quad. bunch of bars, shops, restaurants. if you're 21, go to the Houndstooth bar on the strip. constantly rated as one of the best sports bars in the nation. also, check out the Bryant Museum. it's across the street from the baseball complex.

I'm sure the choices will be obvious once we're there but where are the best places to park? Also, will we experience any hostility at the strip of bars since we'll obviously be showing our school colors? Thanks for the information!

a good place to park might be the rec center. it costs about $10 and you can get a free shuttle down the road to the quad. you shouldn't run into any hostility on the strip. however, there's no telling what a drunk person may do. we're a football town with a drinking problem (or vice versa), if you know what i mean. just don't start cheering for auburn or tennessee to win their game and you should be fine, haha. i think i saw maybe 4 FIU fans before the football game this past week, and frankly, i was just glad some made it. very rarely do our out of conference fans have anything bad to say after their trip. be nice to us, we'll be nice to you.

a little warning for the fans in the stadium: if we win, we have this cheer/song we sing called "rammer jammer". it goes "hey (other team), hey (other team), hey (other team), we just beat the hell out of you. rammer jammer, yellow hammer, give'em hell, alabama". link:

we don't mean anything bad about it, it's just something we've done for a long time. we used to do it before the game as well, but stopped it for some reason in the late 90's. we do it after any win, no matter by how much.

Been to the two previous bama-unt games and here's a couple of things i remember.

Partied on the strip the night before. Except for some good natured ribbing, everyone was cool. At one bar the band asked us if we still had a kick ass music school. That was funny.

Do walk around campus, it's worth it. In one area that have bricks in the ground with the names of famous athletes and other Bama alumni (i think). Their frat/sorority row is ridiculous. The campus just kind of reeks of history.

Check out the alumni cheer squad or dance squad. Extremely bizarre.

The gameday experience is ok, not sure if the head cheerleader still uses a microphone to get cheers started. Really annoying.

Worst hot dog ever was at Bama.

Honestly, i liked hanging out the night before and the pregame much better than the gameday experience. Not real loud (granted 3/4 of the fans there will have never heard of North Texas) and it's one of those places where it's just the thing to do. I'm glad i checked the box but i wouldn't go back there.

my two cents.

the place with the "bricks" is around denny chimes. there are cement slabs of the hand and footprint of every bama football captain dating back to around the 40s. the head cheerleader just uses the microphone before the game. don't worry, we don't like it either. i've never had a hotdog in the stadium, can't comment on that. the stadium probably won't be that loud this weekend. no disrespect, but north texas just isn't that big of a game for us. that and it will be at 11:20, most of the students will probably be hungover or still drunk. if it was a big game like auburn or tennessee, it would probably be the loudest stadium in the country.

Schools like Alabama, Auburn, and Ole Miss observe more genteel traditions, and others like Miss. State, LSU, and Tennessee have a much higher overalls-and-straw-hat quotient.

And then there are always Yankee carpetbaggers like Urban Meyer...

Schools like Alabama, Auburn, and Ole Miss observe more genteel traditions, and others like Miss. State, LSU, and Tennessee have a much higher overalls-and-straw-hat quotient.

And then there are always Yankee carpetbaggers like Urban Meyer...

you will definately see both rednecks and genteel southerners at UA. i'm not one of the rednecks, but i also don't dress up for the games. however, auburn is what we like to call a "cow college", take from that what you will. one of auburn's greatest traditions is throwing toilet paper in trees. mississippi state is the same. tennessee is pure hillbilly. lsu is completely different. they are in the bayou. real strange blend of people.

I doubt that Bama, Auburn and Ole Miss are lacking in redneck support...but I am a big fan of the students in the white collared shirt and team colored pants and tie next to the southern beauty in a sun-dress in the front row of the students section that these schools always seem to have.

most of the UA students that wear the white button up and tie are frat guys. at UA, most of them are pricks.

if anyone is a history buff, you can try to find the few buildings that were not burned down when sherman came through during the civil war.

Maybe the team will still be fighting the civil war too, and we will win. :unsure:

      You know it’s not just the Portal and NIL. I have never seen the traffic on gmg so anemic and I’ve been coming here since the 1990’s. Now, not to say the Portal and NIL haven’t had a huge negative impact but when you add the turmoil and uncertainty with what’s happening in our nation and around the world it’s forcing many to adjust their priorities. With that being said, maybe, just maybe people will turn out in masses on Saturdays if for no other reason than to just seek some kind of normalcy, an attempt to try and convince oneself that all is ok, nothing’s changed…..see the band is playing, the fans are cheering as the players take the field. Go Mean Green

      Unfortunately this comment by the head coach at UNT is going to appear defeatist and will do nothing to motivate students, fans or players. Wish it had been some other school’s head coach. Awful publicity for UNT.

      Morris didn't say anything that most of us haven't already said or felt. Quite frankly, what he said has been true for a lot longer than many of us want to admit. Our lack of commitment to athletics (whether you want to blame it on administration, students, alumni, or realistically all of the above) has set us back and has been an issue for years. It still hasn't changed, and it's going to continue to come back to bite us for years to come. There has to be a clear divide at some point, even though I would argue there's been a fuzzy divide for a long time. It's just a matter of time at this point that it becomes crystal clear. We are not going to be in the top tier of that divide. Our stakeholders (I use this broadly and there are clear exceptions) have made that choice over however many years now. It's just going to finally come to a head.
