Over the coming days a curiously revealing event will be taking place in Copenhagen. Top of the agenda at a meeting of the Polar Bear Specialist Group (set up under the International Union for the Conservation of Nature/Species Survival Commission) will be the need to produce a suitably scary report on how polar bears are being threatened with extinction by man-made global warming.

This is one of a steady drizzle of events planned to stoke up alarm in the run-up to the UN's major conference on climate change in Copenhagen next December. But one of the world's leading experts on polar bears has been told to stay away from this week's meeting, specifically because his views on global warming do not accord with those of the rest of the group.

These days, I think true scientists are the endangered species.

Another nominee for Post of the Decade here. Science, especially where "global warming" is concerned, is now more political than scientific. It galls me to think those SOBs in DC are going to try to force me to buy $10 light bulbs all in the name of some unproven theory (and because Philips has thrown their lot in with the government).

Mindguards: Some members appoint themselves (Al Gore) to the role of protecting the group from adverse information that might threaten group complacency.

Seems lik all eight of these apply to the 'scientific' community regarding global warming.

Who knew ... Global Warming is a hoax after all!

It really sucks that we created Hybrids and more efficient energy as an off-shoot of this great lie! I will hate to see all the shieks out of work when we don't rely on them for most of our fossil fuels.

To think we could be committing our tax dollars to keep out of date GM afloat when new technologies are kicking the crap out of good ol American know how....

I don't even want to think about the day we have no electric bill. That would put so many out of work. And Recylcing , don't get me started! It is so weird people separate their trash and put it back into the system...that puts so many people out of jobs.

Let's see....organic gardening! I cannot believe people would put a garden in a suburb...that defeat's the purpose of a grocery store....

Pretty soon they will develop technologies to where you could insulate your house better thus not using so much energy! We all know we have excess energy to spare.

Well except CA....thanks Enron....(Cheney's personal jet service)

Harnessing the wind????? Solar power..... and this light bulb thing...is Obama on crack or what.....

UNT is the laughing stock of College Football with this Leed's certified stadium......

And guess what I hope it is a Hoax. that would be a good thing if we did not enter 140 degree temps.,.,.

No I think he is just saying he is clueless.

People planting gardens has little to do with global warming. Usually more to do with a hobby or cost of food and poor economy that cycle has happened time and time again.

Hybrids are a mess, several cars get better gas mileage, are much better for the environment. Hybrids cost more, have a short life span and their batteries are a environmental nightmare. Plus you don't want to pay to change the battery.

GM was hammered by the health care costs for their retired, I have read several numbers between $1500 - $2000 cost per vehicle plus their current employees. Then they made some ugly cars that were just not popular, and they had cut costs and made their cars for a time with cheap parts. A bad reputation is also hard to get over. I did not see a technology gap at all. They had several cars in the prototype stage that were really interesting. They had hybrids as well even though they are a bad choice, perception seems to be reality regardless of facts.

Light bulbs they are trying to force CFLs on us they are the worst thing yet, but hey what is a little mercury poisoning. I think OLED will be the next thing but it was not spurred by global warming this technology as been advancing since the 70's.

Solar same thing nothing new and has been getting better over the last forty years, the nano technology has shown some great improvements in efficiency. Once again this research has been cranking away without the help of global warming nut jobs.

But hey stay on the cool-aid you might feel better then waking up and smelling the roses.

Truth....always comes out.

I really don't know about Global Warming. Honestly I am not a scientist. I just don't know. However, lets put the data out there and analyze it and determine the correct course of action.

It seems to me that those who favor or have interest's in the "Green Technologies" have a vested interest and believe in it. Those who have an interest in Fossil fuel energy don't believe in it.

Thus, democrat's favor global warming...requires investment (taxes)

And republicans (corporations) favor global warming is a hoax (threat to their business)

I actually favor the use of both to supply the energy we need. While we keep an eye on the planet's well being we do need to keep pushing forward with our current state.

So to answer lies don't help either side. And both sides are adept at spinning the truth.

I just happen to believe that "greener technologies" would overall help in the long run sustain the needs of our everyday use while fueling our economy. PUN intended!
