  1. My name is Jack Fincher and I'm likely the oldest person on this board. My dad worked for Gulf Oil. I started at North Texas in 1948. Went into the Navy in the Korean War 1950 because I decided that I did not want to be a teacher. Returned to North Texas in January 1955 and received my BBA in May 1957.

  4. They bring more fans to Denton (and to TV) than “Dallas’s team.”

  5. When we play them up there, we see a historical and pivotal piece of real estate and stand along side academy of men and women that will proudly serve our country. We also see a legitimately historical college football program. Upgrade. When we play them at home, we will get more opposing fans into DATCU in one game than we do from any five games from the team that is leaving our conference. Upgrade. We got the better brand. (no offense) GMG

  6. Somewhat minor issue compared to the fact we landed a great program to replace SMU. This is a huge win for the AAC. There were not a lot of viable alternatives and I think they landed they very best one available.

  7. Basically Army said, "get rid of SMU, then we'll join." That checks out.

  10. Gone out of his way? Sheesh. He's a HS coach that reached out to Morris on a whim and Morris took the bait. He then hits buttons on his phone to advertise for the school in which he is the recruiting coordinator for. And he talks shit all the while. How is this going out of his way?

  11. I would have killed for this team and these opponents at this stadium when I was a student.

  13. Good Sign I was driving North Bound on HWY 35 at the Carrollton/Lewisville border. The U of Memphis equipment truck was broken down on the side of the road!! Going too fast to get a photo....but this has to be a good sign....right?!?!

  16. Seems like a weird combo of throwback helmet with modern jersey. Missed opportunity for a cool throwback jersey.

  18. No chance they want to leave the Big East to join an AAC. They left one that had Houston, Cincy, and UCF. I don't see why they'd want to join now.

  19. They have a separate tv deal for that specific game that brings in lots of money and eyeballs. It's important for both to keep that game.

  20. Our problem is branding and lack of sports culture on campus. The student turn out is terrible, and the student body is larger then it has ever been. Its not because the team isnt winning, I remember plenty of bad seasons where student turn out was still good. there is no social culture for students when it comes to game day.

  21. Since Ron Mastry's Invitaaaation was to the 2003 New Orleans Bowl vs Memphis, now's as good a time as ever to revisit this gold...

  22. Certainly one of the great moments in Fouts Field history, and even funnier being there and seeing his announcement on the video board.

  23. Yes. Listen to Chandler Rogers interview with The Green Room. Talks about how ULM doesn't have a real training staff (all graduate assistants) and doesn't provide players meal plans.

  26. I don't get this logic at all. If an athlete makes our team better NOW, I don't care where they end up 2 years down the road. You can't go out and stop recruiting good athletes because they have offers from other programs and you're scared they might leave your program in a year or two.

  27. My memory is horrible, but I'm pretty sure it happened in two games, seeming more like a trend that was going on, possibly due to the coach at the time. If that's the case, then maybe it's rectified itself. Again, I liked the atmosphere of the games before that started happening.

  30. I agree. I wanted Army vs Navy and championship weekend to switch places in the CFB schedule as soon as 3 conferences started having conference championship games. Now it makes even more sense. An Army vs Navy game with spot in the AAC championship game on the line way more intriguing. A “meaningless” rematch of an AAC championship game a week later doesn’t make sense. If the schedule was switched, Army vs Navy still gets the FBS stage all to itself that weekend preserving the tradition. Also all the conference championship game qualifiers get a week rest and we might get better games. In my opinion the lack rematches in the regular season is part of what makes college football unique and more passionate than NFL.

  31. Keep playing as we are beginning to play and we'll improve. We are newcomers to big time TV and it'll take a little while to get known. While it's true that we haven't raised much of an eyebrow yet, this year will depend on how many times we'll make an appearance and who the opponent is. I wonder how many people in Denton County knew that we were on national TV? We need to advertise...establish watching parties...take out a few ads when we are playing away. We've started in that direction but we still have a way to go. It seems our last games are turning heads. Just win a few and we'll be on our way.

  32. Most of us grew up watching the Army Navy game every year for the last 50 years or so. Who could have ever imagined that we would one day be in the same football conference?

  39. There is probably an NCAA technicality where you cannot have a conference regular season game after your conference championship game. Now, it would be interesting if the Navy and Army played for the conference championship before their "Army-Navy" game in the future.

  43. The Alumni association has had this logo for about 15+ years. It is one of the best logos that the University has in its inventory and (sadly) it's the most UNDERUTILIEZED. I see very little gear being produced and marketed with this logo on it. No hats, very few shirts, and no flags. The main representative from Pro-line once told FFR and I that a hat with the NT-Star on it would be a killer product. He said it would out-sell anything that was out there for NT. BUT someone in the long-standing dysfunctional NT administration or the decision makers(?) in the equally dysfunctional NT Alumni association have never seen fit, or had the vision, to market it. Besides hats and shirts, I would suggest the NT Battle flag with the NT-Star in place of the single star. Not the replace the Battle Flag, but as a flag for the Alumni who gather for tail-gating etc.
