  1. Lance Dunbar was just drafted by the Dallas Renegades in the 8th round.. Highest North Texas Player ever in an XFL Draft

  2. All this talk about getting rid of SL is ridiculous at this point.

  3. Unfortunately, this seems to be true for every G5 school (even Boise). If a coach is hot, he gets snatched up by a P5. Even lower P5 programs lose their HC to the bigger P5's. So, the G5's are constantly having to recognize unproven HC talent. Then, when a school hits on a keeper, they lose him to another school. This makes it nearly impossible to sustain success at our level. 6 months ago we were all paranoid about losing Seth. Now, some here are seriously questioning his ability. It's too early guys. Give him a break.

  5. Judge him by his first 2 recruiting classes compared to how he is recruiting now. This to me has always dictated the future of a program. The difference is very positive. GMG

  6. Nope. Now, “anybody else missing Kemon Hall (who spent time on the Chargers practice squad) and Nate Brooks (who IS on the Patriots practice squad)” is a different question entirely.

  7. Jeez guys. I am not happy about the season either. But, IMO there could be some positives come out of it. For one, we could really use some continued stability with the coaching staff. The fact that we are struggling a bit will keep the vultures away from Seth for a while (yes, that is a good thing). Bodie Reeder may nor may not be the answer at OC. He may just need a season or two to work out the kinks here. Reffett needs some more talent (and experience) on D before we can really expect them to take the next step up. Siggers is a stud that could be here for 2 more years. Bussey may be back next year with some young receiving talent. The young D should be better next year. We don't have a Mason Fine on the roster next year. But, we do have some potential talent at the QB position coming up. This year has been a complete let down and the attendance will probably take a hit. But, we still have a bright future and having upper-echelon CUSA recruiting classes the last few seasons certainly doesn't hurt. I certainly don't think the program is on a downward swing. Instead, it is most likely more of a temporary dip.

  8. From a big picture perspective...part of my frustration is personal. I HATE the narrative surrounding Littrell and UNT. All the "oh...don't worry, LIttrell will be gone soon." "He won't be at UNT long." "He's gone after this year" It's as if UNT doesn't deserve Seth Littrell. I hate it. Hearing all the outsiders basically tell us that we're lucky to even have a football program and should be thankful that anyone would want to coach us. (I know....taking it personal but I can't help it) And I know that's not Littrell's fault...but I guarantee that narrative was part of his agent's ploy to get him more money. And that narrative was based on smoke and mirrors, perfect timing with our schedules and our past. Now that he's got his money...my expectations of him are to put us on the national scene and win conference championships MINIMUM. That's what he's getting paid to do now. Our 2018 season was a 9 win season yes, but that was without a doubt from top to bottom the weakest schedule I've ever seen UNT play. We literally played 1 decent team and that was in the bowl game where we got destroyed. We won 9 games and should've won 11 against that schedule. He turned that into a big raise and a new deal. I saw another poster ask if we pay coaches? Yes Have a great facilities? Yes Have a great nutrition program? yes. None of that matters if we don't win championships. Donors and the administration have done their part. Fans are showing up. We're not showing up for a 6 year rebuild. (in which we're in year 4)

  9. I agree. And I’m not advocating getting rid of him. But his record speaks for itself. And his agent got UNT to pay. that’s fine. But Littrell is making “you don’t go 5-15” money now. So fix it We showed. Now you show.

  10. Christian returned for his first game of the season from a groin injury he sustained this summer. In his debut, he had 6 catches, no drops for 72 yds and scored his 1st TD of the season. He did have a somewhat limited role and should increase his playing time this week. Friendswood upset #7 Foster 34-32 and remain undefeated. They will play #2 Shadow Creek this Friday for a clash between the two of three unbeaten teams left in the #1 hardest district in Texas according to DCTF. On a side note, Christian got his acceptance to UNT this week and looking forward to graduating in Dec and getting up to Denton in January. #GMG

  13. FAU fan here, First off, I come in peace. I have been reading different message boards and getting a feel for how various fan bases are feeling at this point in the season. It's crazy to read through some of these boards and see how down on yourselves you guys are after a disappointing start. From what I gather you guys are having some trouble with line play this year? Either way I think you guys have a pretty good coach in SL. It seems like overall your recruiting is trending up, you have a new stadium, located in a pretty good area (I'd take denton over Ruston/Bowling green/ huntington any day). I'd like to see everyone in our conference play up because none of us are moving to the next level without our conference as a whole showing the best team isn't just the king of the crap hill. I think FAU is on the right track and I'm hoping we can potentially return to the conference championship this year and show some consistency (and better fan support). I would love to have another championship vs yall after how the past 2 seasons went. Having a little cross division rivalry just makes the game more exciting. I think the conference has the potential, we should be outshining the MAC and Sunbelt every year. Here's to hoping both our teams have an exciting fight to the top of the totem poll for consistent conference domination. 🤝

  15. The program has made huge strides in being a better program. I compare us against our conference mates. How does our HFC salary compare? How does our assistant salary pool compare? How do our facilities compare? How does our nutrition compare? How does our strength and conditioning compare? How does our recruiting budget compare? How does our recruiting personnel compare? The answer to most of those is best in conference. We need to take the next step in recruiting budget and head count. We are close to being best of class in ALL of the previous mentioned areas except for recruiting budget but it’s getting better. We are close to having no excuses. When you have that you have higher expectations (which we are seeing now). I know many don’t want to hear this but we need some more time to catch up. We need two more years We are trending upward as a program. We are setting ourselves up to be the next Boise, UCF, or Houston of CUSA. That doesn’t happen over night after 100 years of neglect. Any success we’ve had in the past was smoke and mirrors. Now we finally have a foundation.

  16. Like it or not, the correct answer is fan support. If we were putting in 60k a game, it would be impossible for the P5 to ignore us. And before you say “but we are in CUSA, we could never draw those types of crowds”. I say why not. All it requires is for our people to have pride and support for our school. Opponent shouldn’t matter.

  18. I think the biggest weakness on our staff is Langston. Spencer Leftwich is killing time down the road as the strength and conditioning coach at Lake Dallas. I would go after him as he is a proven D1 OL coach.

  19. What the program needs to move forward is to replace Troy Reffett. That defense sucks. He was fortunate enough last year to have players that covered up for it's flaws. However, since he has been here we have had only one season of a decent defense. He needs to be able to put players in the right positions to fit their talents and abilities not forcing them to play his scheme when they cannot. No matter how good offenses get, defense still wins championships.

  20. THEY? I am assuming that you are an Alumni and fan. And if so, then we can start by having our alumni/fans always use "we", "us", and "ours" whilst making reference to OUR program. Most fans of other programs almost always use ownership words/phrases when referring to their school and it's programs. The next thing I would suggest is that we look at how these guys run their program. 2018-Louisiana Tech (CUSA) 9/1 @ South Alabama (3-9) W 30 26 9/8 vs. Southern (non-IA) W 54 17 9/22 @ Louisiana State (10-3) L 21 38 9/29 @ *North Texas (9-4) W 29 27 10/6 vs. *Alabama-Birmingham (11-3) L 7 28 10/13 @ *Texas-San Antonio (3-9) W 31 3 10/20 vs. *Texas-El Paso (1-11) W 31 24 10/26 @ *Florida Atlantic (5-7) W 21 13 11/3 @ Mississippi State (8-5) L 3 45 11/10 vs. *Rice (2-11) W 28 13 11/17 @ *Southern Mississippi (6-5) L 20 21 11/24 vs. *Western Kentucky (3-9) L 15 30 12/22 vs. Hawaii (8-6) W 31 14 @ Honolulu, HI Hawaii Bowl 8-5-0 321 299 2017-Louisiana Tech (CUSA) 9/2 vs. Northwestern State (non-IA) W 52 24 9/9 vs. Mississippi State (9-4) L 21 57 9/16 @ *Western Kentucky (6-7) W 23 22 9/23 @ South Carolina (9-4) L 16 17 9/30 vs. South Alabama (4-8) W 34 16 10/7 @ *Alabama-Birmingham (8-5) L 22 23 10/21 vs. *Southern Mississippi (8-5) L 27 34 10/28 @ *Rice (1-11) W 42 28 11/4 vs. *North Texas (9-5) L 23 24 11/11 vs. *Florida Atlantic (11-3) L 23 48 11/18 @ *Texas-El Paso (0-12) W 42 21 11/25 vs. *Texas-San Antonio (6-5) W 20 6 12/20 vs. Southern Methodist (7-6) W 51 10 @ Dallas, TX Frisco Bowl 7-6-0 396 330 2016-Louisiana Tech (CUSA) 9/3 @ Arkansas (7-6) L 20 21 9/10 vs. South Carolina State (non-IA) W 53 24 9/17 @ Texas Tech (5-7) L 45 59 9/24 @ *Middle Tennessee State (8-5) L 34 38 10/1 vs. *Texas-El Paso (4-8) W 28 7 10/6 vs. *Western Kentucky (11-3) W 55 52 10/15 vs. Massachusetts (2-10) W 56 28 @ Foxboro, MA 10/22 @ *Florida International (4-8) W 44 24 10/29 vs. *Rice (3-9) W 61 16 11/5 @ *North Texas (5-8) W 45 24 11/12 vs. *Texas-San Antonio (6-7) W 63 35 11/25 @ *Southern Mississippi (7-6) L 24 39 12/3 vs. *Western Kentucky (11-3) L 44 58 @ Bowling Green, KY CUSA Championship 12/23 vs. Navy (9-5) W 48 45 @ Fort Worth, TX Armed Forces Bowl 9-5-0 620 470 2015-Louisiana Tech (CUSA) 9/5 vs. Southern (non-IA) W 62 15 9/10 @ *Western Kentucky (12-2) L 38 41 9/19 @ Kansas State (6-7) L 33 39 9/26 vs. *Florida International (5-7) W 27 17 10/3 vs. Louisiana-Lafayette (4-8) W 43 14 10/10 @ *Texas-San Antonio (3-9) W 34 31 10/17 @ Mississippi State (9-4) L 20 45 10/24 vs. *Middle Tennessee State (7-6) W 45 16 10/30 @ *Rice (5-7) W 42 17 11/7 vs. *North Texas (1-11) W 56 13 11/21 @ *Texas-El Paso (5-7) W 17 15 11/28 vs. *Southern Mississippi (9-5) L 24 58 12/19 vs. Arkansas State (9-4) W 47 28 @ New Orleans, LA New Orleans Bowl 9-4-0 488 349 2014-Louisiana Tech (CUSA) 8/30 @ Oklahoma (8-5) L 16 48 9/6 @ Louisiana-Lafayette (9-4) W 48 20 9/11 @ *North Texas (4-8) W 42 21 9/20 vs. Northwestern State (non-IA) L 27 30 9/27 @ Auburn (8-5) L 17 45 10/4 vs. *Texas-El Paso (7-6) W 55 3 10/18 vs. *Texas-San Antonio (4-8) W 27 20 10/25 @ *Southern Mississippi (3-9) W 31 20 11/1 vs. *Western Kentucky (8-5) W 59 10 11/8 @ *Alabama-Birmingham (6-6) W 40 24 11/22 @ *Old Dominion (6-6) L 27 30 11/29 vs. *Rice (8-5) W 76 31 12/6 vs. *Marshall (13-1) L 23 26 @ Huntington, WV CUSA Championship 12/26 vs. Illinois (6-7) W 35 18 @ Dallas, TX Heart of Dallas Bowl 9-5-0 523 346 2013-Louisiana Tech (CUSA) 8/31 @ North Carolina State (3-9) L 14 40 9/7 vs. Lamar (non-IA) W 27 14 9/12 vs. *Tulane (7-6) L 15 24 9/21 @ Kansas (3-9) L 10 13 9/28 vs. Army (3-9) L 16 35 @ Dallas, TX 10/5 @ *Texas-El Paso (2-10) W 38 35 10/19 vs. *North Texas (9-4) L 13 28 10/26 @ *Florida International (1-11) W 23 7 11/9 vs. *Southern Mississippi (1-11) W 36 13 11/16 @ *Rice (10-4) L 14 52 11/23 vs. *Tulsa (3-9) L 14 24 11/30 @ *Texas-San Antonio (7-5) L 10 30 4-8-0 230 315 Since joining CUSA these guys have only had one losing season, they have only lost to us twice, they have played in two championship games, and they have won every bowl game that they have attended. 21. Just a few coaches off the top of my head I looked up. Eliah Drinkwitz, App State: 3-0 so far in 2019. Scott Satterfield, App State: 14-10 between 2014-2018 Scott Frost, UCF: 8-6 from 2016-2017. Bryan Harsin, Boise St: 31-13 from 2014-present. Jeff Tedford, Fresno St: 11-8 from 2017-present. Rocky Long, San Diego St: 21-28 from 2011-present. (not a winning record but better than most over a span of 8 1/2 seasons). Rick

  23. How do you acknowledge you’re on the hot seat at the same time you acknowledge you’re not gonna get fired? I think we’re splitting hairs about responsibility/accountability, vs the decision to actually terminate. Seth is def responsible, always should be. But a sub-9 win season shouldn’t default him into termination.

  24. Yeah, and if you were a Nebraska fan you would have lost your f'n mind the past ten years. They just got run out of the building by Minnesota. Welcome to being a G5. If you're name isn't Boise State it is always a roller coaster. I have no problem with people complaining about individual events (recruiting, coach's decisions, losses) but if you have a magic wand that can make a G5 a 9-10 game winner every year, about 99.9% of G5 programs would love to talk to you. Attendance won't change that, firing a coach after a bad year won't change that, I'm not sure even a Boone Pickens type donation would change it (see OSU's Bball program and the trending downward football team). If it were as easy as accountability, everybody would just fire everybody when they hit a rough spot. I'm not saying this is North Texas, just suck it up and take it, I'm saying this is college football, especially at the G5 level, so suck it up and take it.

  25. The green koolaid part of me wants to think that maybe LIttrell has actually out coached his talent level to some degree to this point given how lowly rated his first 3 classes were (Yes...I know that's his responsibility too, that 101st ranked 3rd class is still a head scratcher to me) But he's not going anywhere for the next couple of years...so my hope is that we will get back on the national stage competing for a conference championship year after next? His 4th class (1st "good" class) will be roughly juniors and the 2020 class (his best yet if they stick) will be sophomores. But who knows......

  26. I was there. Couldn't have been a worse feeling. We were 0-4 going in to that game, and had just gotten our butts kicked by some startup 1AA school in Tampa. ULM was also 0-4, but their putrid football program was the least of their problems. The Sun Belt wouldn't accept them as a member and they remained full members of the Southland Conference for all other sports. Their school was in the process of losing their accreditation with the Southern Association of Colleges, which would make their degrees virtually worthless. The cloud of malaise was thick in Monroe, and although 7000 were reported to be at that game the stark reality was about one tenth that figure. Darrell Dickey had perfected his dead opossum offense by this time; don't ever snap the ball until the final second, run on first and second down, run the draw on third and long, ... punt. Run the clock, and don't do anything that could possibly make it stop. Keep the score close, and then try to score in the last moments of the game to try to make the score look respectable, and maybe, on rare occasion, possibly win. Well, like always, we lost. Final score was 17 - 19. The dozens of ULM fans celebrated the victory and we again were able to only celebrate 'winning the time of possession'. The bus ride from Monroe to Denton was miserable. It sucked. It was horrible. Our team was stuck with a coach that simply wouldn't take a risk on anything. Fans were raising money to let a chimpanzee pick plays from a bag. How could the results possibly be worse? Was football at North Texas really worth saving? Then along came Middle Tennessee State. They were some unknown recent move-up school, 5 - 0 including a win over Vanderbilt, and they were favored to destroy us on our home field at our homecoming. They were "SEXY", they were already touting Heisman candidates, and they, along with their legion of obnoxious fans, were instantly far too good for the new Sun Belt Conference. The first half was a low scoring affair with the Blue Raiders high octane offense miraculously kept in check. Then, to open the second half Dickey did something totally out of character, he threw caution to the wind and decided to not just lose gracefully. He kicked an onside kick. The Middle Tennessee team was taken totally by surprise, the North Texas fans were taken totally by surprise, and the resulting victory took the new Sun Belt Conference totally by surprise. Dickey went on to win 26 straight conference games and secure a position in the North Texas Hall of Fame. The moral of this long story: Things can get really bad at times, but there's nothing that can't be cured by kicking the crap out of Middle Tennessee.

  27. I agree and a dose of reality regarding this year. 1. We lost one of our starting WR’s and all conference performer to an ill advised entry in to the NFL draft. 2. We lost our leading WR early in the third game this year to a torn ACL. 3. Our returning starter at TE has been effectively out all year with a mystery injury. 4. We had to replace both starting OT’s. One is a grad transfer that is better suited as a guard and the other is undersized. 5. We are starting two excellent but very young and inexperienced players at outside WR. 6. We lost both starting LB’s to graduation and they are replaced with two converted safeties/nickel backs. They are good but have to have a DL that can let them roam free to be effective. 7. We have limited depth on the DL. 8. Our starting CB’s are replacing all conference performers. Johnson is young and had the potential to be great by the time he is done. The other is a grad transfer that isn’t living up to the hype. The loss of Roberts hurt as he was a good young corner. Our future at this position are true freshmen in Gaddy and Norris and they could be special. 9. Our safeties have played well but I think the future holds even better players with Morris and the freshman from Pearland. 10. SL’s coaching staffs have been raided the last two years Cobbs and Mayes appear to be great replacements, but the jury is still out in Reeder and Jennings. Our DB’s aren’t showing development and hiring any defensive coach from Texas Tech is a gamble. Langston hasn’t really developed anyone and our OL is not improving. IMHO, he should be replaced. @BillySee58 has hit the nail on the head. Littrell caught lightening in a bottle by finding Fine, and hit in his first class on Bussey a a few others but the next two classes haven’t produced. I blame a lot of this on SL having to cultivate relationships with the high school coaches across the state, something McCarney and staff neglected. The last two classes and our current class are reflecting the results of this work in addition to the investment in the program and facilities by the administration. Next year may be rough as well but the future is in our underclassmen. We have to hold on to our current commits and either get highly rated JUCO’s or grad transfers to help along both lines. It doesn’t matter who follows Fine, they will be unjustly held to crazy expectations. I think Bean is an incredible athlete that may be better suited at WR. Aune’s age and maturity may be the bridge to Renfro as he gets settled on campus and matures. Running SL out the door is not the thing to do at this point. He has changed the entire culture of this program. Sure, the flirtations with K State may have hurt, but I think he will be with us for the next four or five years. This program will truly be all his and reflect his true abilities. Many think he needs to rant and rave up and down the sideline to be more effective, but I disagree. I like his demeanor, the expectations he has of this staff and this program and believe he is the right man for the job but we are about to hit a couple lean years before this program really takes off. The early success and Fine’s success under SL and Harrell sped up our expectations. Many of us mention the success Patterson has had at TCU. Well, he had a couple lean years along the way as he built the program he has now. We will be fine, but this year hurts because the expectations, potentially unrealistic, were so high.

  29. For throwbacks the 60’s interlocked NT is popular.. But not as popular as the 70’s era “Flyn’ Worm”. For current logos,...the logo that is a derivative of the “Flyin’ Worm” is the “Son Of Worm”...or as we like to call it The SOW, and is the standard mark for the Mean Green.. And the flag design that is very popular and was voted on and chosen by our fan base is the “North Texas Battle Flag”. Rick

  30. I think we are paying for stability at the top. After DD, Dodge and McCarney, we needed that and we needed someone with the confidence to build this program. I posted in another thread that I believe that is starting to take shape with this current recruiting class and the one from last year. There was a lot to overcome from a perception standpoint and we are just now starting to see this pay off. A little patience is needed. Next year could be tough, but the year after and moving forward, should recruiting continue its upward climb, could see us have success like never before. The two changes I would like to see are a replacement at the OL Coach and Aune given a shot with Bean moving to the slot where his speed and elusiveness could be a factor. I think Aune's maturity could have a calming influence on a young team and he comes from a great program at Argyle where he put up great numbers.

  33. Just like his games vs winning FBS teams. He’s not barely losing with a 9-11 record. He’s getting blown out to the tune of 5-15 vs them. How many G5 coaches make the money he makes? Top 10 paid coach in G5. Highest paid in the conference. How many on the top 10 list are 5-15 and have never won their conference?

  37. There's no commitment here to recruit size on the lines of scrimmage. The D line rotation is too small. The LBs are too small. The O line is average on their good days. The team who wins CUSA will have the best line play.

  41. unable to adapt when something does not work and sticking with consistency is killing this year. In the offseason, we know what issues we are facing coming into next year. We knew the O-line was struggling, defense was not on par, etc, etc. This year, we get doubled up on in our final scores. I'm sorry, but when something is broke.. You fix it. It's hard to defend SL's ability to do right now. Also, is it on anyone else's mind what we're going to do when Fine graduates? I am worried thinking about it. Is UNT going to follow the SMU model of transfers or are we going to stick with developing recruits out of HS. Because what we're doing right now does not advertise well to recruits..

  44. I’m not sure what you’re going off of with those numbers. You don’t get 25 HS signees per class. You get 25 total initial counters. Which includes D1 scholarship transfers, JUCOs, and walking places on scholarship before playing 2 full seasons as a walkon. In 2016, in addition to HS commits, we also signed Bryce English, Alec Morris, Dee Baulkman, EJ Ejiya, Darius Turner, Josh Wheeler, and TJ Henson in that class. And in 2017 we had some more jucos, plus some blue shirts who we signed late in 2016 that counted towards the 2017 class like Eric Jenkins.
