  1. WTF is the athletic department trying to pull here? Those jergoffs promised us an 120' flagpole. If some guy on the internet estimates its not quite 120' then i want some heads to roll!!!!! Somebody needs to be made to eat these shit sandwiches!!!!!

  2. Say what you want about athletics, UNT has done an amazing job of eliminating the commuter school tag and the lie that it isn't academically elite over the past decade.

  3. Actually, the long term the plan should be no paycheck game and play their ass in a bowl game....

  5. UNT is actively recruiting in Arizona and Nevada (we're in Arizona). I've alluded before to meetings they've held in Phoenix and Tucson. My son has been accepted to UNT, but it remains to be seen if their scholarship offers can compete with his other ones (he has full tuition at all three Arizona state schools). We can't afford to go there, otherwise. If they can match or exceed our out-of-pocket, we're there! We really like UNT and Denton.

  6. We won't draw the same type of crowds to Ft. Worth as we did in Dallas. And saying Amon Carter is a better venue is like saying Minute Made is better than Wrigley. Like I get, but come on...The Cotton Bowl is most of the most historical stadiums in the country.

  9. This is just me, but if you want it to be visible from maximum distance, you put it at the highest point, which would probably be somewhere on the hill. A hundred and twenty (or a hundred) feed on top of that and you see it from a long way away. But that's just me. I'm sure it will look great where it is and I'm excited to see it. Disappointed it wasn't ready for the first game of the season, but I understand the reasons. I guess I'll have to wait until next season to see it.

  12. Linemen are the hardest signing you make. RB's WR's LB's DB's you can see a player in high school and project where he will be in a year and you only worry about work ethic, staying eligible and adjusting to the speed of the game. Linemen generally you need to project what a year of red shirt plus another year or two of sub work will get you. Freeze, Malzahn, and Harsin flat missed nearly all of their line signings. When Anderson arrived we had to hit juco hard to survive but thing is there are some OL guys out there who are redshirting a year of juco or hustling to get their associates fast and starting to see more OL guys ready to come out of juco with 3 to play 3 and even occasionally 4 to play 3. Tend to be much safer signings.

  15. January 1, 2011 Texas Tech 45 Northwestern 38 40,121 notes January 2, 2012 Houston 30 Penn State 14 46,817 notes January 1, 2013 Oklahoma State 58 Purdue 14 48,313 notes January 1, 2014 North Texas 36 UNLV 14 38,380 notes December 26, 2014 Louisiana Tech 35 Illinois 18 31,297 notes December 26, 2015 Washington 44 Southern Miss 31 20,229 notes December 27, 2016 Army 38 North Texas 31 39,117 Actually if you look at the bowl's history, the only team that's really gotten mediocre "name" opponents is North Texas (probably perceived that way on UNLV and Army's end about us as well). As a mater of fact, I believe that if it hadn't been for the Penn St. fiasco, we'd have ended up with a Big 10 opponent in 2014 like La Tech got in the subsequent HOD bowl. This is a step down trade opponent wise for the conference. Noting will convince me otherwise.

  17. I've noticed a trend. My wife is a teacher and she and her friends said places like Arkansas and OU (especially Arkansas) are doing a great job luring kids out if Texas by basically giving in state tuition for good students. A couple kids in my neighborhood are prime examples of this trend.

  18. Girls have earned it for sure. http://www.meangreensports.com/sports/w-tennis/spec-rel/091517aab.html From the article: Kononova, was recently ranked a North Texas program-best No. 41 in the nation for singles. In addition, she and fellow North Texas junior, Tamuna Kutubidze, earned a Mean Green record-setting No. 22 ranking for doubles.

  19. Bean ran for 500+ yards and 7 TDs last year. So, it's not that he can't run. Head coach is the same, but they've only thrown 32 passes in their first two game. Rogers has started both games, and they are running him more than passing. Sonething has changed. Either: -Rogers is so good, he can't be on the bench; a real playmaker. If so, why are we not being the first to offer him? -Bean is hurt -They've changed the offense, and Rogers is simply better running it than Bean. No matter which it is, our scholarship offer guy is not getting much...and, certainly not in a pass first offense. I guess the most disappointing aspect of it to me is that it shows our coaches are recruiting scared. Lots of early offers, maybe too many to guys who are not FBS players. We are getting quantity, for sure, but not quality from an FBS-ready standpoint. If we have another losing season, it will be more of the same for the 2019 class. If we have a fifth losing season in a row in 2018, third in a row from Littrell, that's when I say, cut him loose. A few people have talked up little Carthel for years, and he's turned around A&M-Commerce in very short order. We would have nothing to lose because we will have tried everything else over a 20-30 year span: -Offensive coordinators: Dickey and Littrell -Old, small time program builders: McCarney -Hot high school coaches: Parker and Dodge -Position coaches: Simon That would leave two untapped sources: (1) defensive coordinator, or (2) lower division success story, like Carthel. It doesn't matter to me which it will be. But, the recruiting effort has to pick up. FAU is playing big schools tougher immediately under Kiffin. UTSA is skinning P5?schools and playing them tough. Arkansas State is now a bowl regular and giving P5s all they want. No more excuses. We're always told to wait. Then, we lose and sit back and watch class after class of lightly recruited players be signed. It doesn't work. Accountability all around this time, please.

  20. Someone at Boise State had a smart recruiting idea many years ago. Idaho turns out 1 to 4 FBS recruits a year and not exactly loaded with recruits within an easy drive. So they focused on players who were close to an airport that offered direct flights to Boise. I've not checked since Harsin took over, but if you mapped their recruits several years ago, they came from places close to those airports with very few exceptions. That's one of the things fans and AD's don't always get. The formula that works for Coach X at School Y may not translate for your school.

  21. Sorry for the late notice, been super busy...we're meeting at Copper Door at 51st Avenue and Thunderbird for the game. The owners are Iowa alumni and show every televised Iowa game. Kickoff is at 12:30! If you're in the area, hope to see you there!

  22. The problem with this lies in special teams play. We showed nothing last week that we have a Brelan game changing play like against Georgia....i know it's a one game sample, but until it trends upward....

  28. So let me get this straight, you've posted 1,500 + times, spent countless hours reading threads and participating in the discussion for something that's throwing away money. Is your time valueless then? Because you seem to invest plenty of time here for someone who doesn't want to invest in something... This is mind blowing to me.

  29. Hope you are right, because the issue with Allen's stadium wasn't a result of the scope, but rather ignoring basic construction rules like expansion joints, placement of rebar, etc...

  35. OK. Put TFLF down for firing Seth Littrell if we're looking at "untapped resources" for coaching hires & "no more excuses". I keep seeing some homers mocking the concerned folks on here that they're already calling for Littrell to be fired... but I didn't actually think anyone was.

  38. Helping college students get an education is a negative return? Your priorities are messed up. Ok if you don't want to watch bad football don't buy tickets but give to the MGC because that helps kids get degrees, some which would not without athletics.

  39. This is mostly how I see it right now: QB is not our salvation, but it is also not one of our 3 biggest concerns. Probably not even among the top 3 offensively In my order the biggest concerns are: 1) Play calling on offense, (Failure to trust the passing identity of the team and needs to spread the field both horizontally and vertically) 2) OL blocking (both run and passing, but currently more running) 3) Getting pressure on the opposing QB when our D is on 3rd down, I honestly am not sure if that is more on play calling or more on the quality of LBs and DL.

  40. I am confident that the nay sayers do their job to perfection at their workplace with no mistakes ever. So, of course, they can criticize a sophomore quarterback who is trying his best. Further, I am also sure that the nay sayers are all Mean Green Club members and season ticket holders.
