Watched the episode last night as it replayed yesterday afternoon, and I was able to Tivo it. Great episode. Here are my take-a-ways. 1. Great accountability in the program under SL. Everybody knows the expectations and are expected to pull their weight. Loved when Coach Littrell invited anyone that is happy with 5 or 6 wins to get up and leave at that time! Those are not the expectations of this program. 2. Loved the segment on the new assistants although I would have enjoyed hearing Coach Yellock speak. I still think we have the energy of Eck in Koontz and Biagi. I would hate to be an OL on the bad side of Coach Langston. Is it me, or should all OL coaches be throw back, hard nosed men? 3. The insight in to signing day/recruiting was good. Loved the spots where SL was talking with the players on the phone after receiving their LOI's. I was especially encouraged to hear Stenklyft state that the "wheel keeps turning" and that there is no time to sit and relax. Time to keep recruiting 4. Hard profession as an assistant being on the road all the time. 5. I really hope SL stays around and becomes a local legend. 6. We have got to find a way to make this a year round program. Such a good snapshot of our program and university. The show is so unique from other "coach's shows" and could be used to cover all of our programs. Love it.6 points

Yeah and I never watch those... Like, ever, because they are so bad and stuff. Well I mean I usually wouldn't watch if it is a really bad hallmark show. Unless it is actually a good show with a good plot and all. Ok who am I kidding, some of those romantic comedies are actually pretty good. DON'T LIE PEOPLE!! YOU KNOW YOU WATCH THESE WHEN YOUR WIFE HAS THEM ON SOMETIMES!!2 points

Loved that episode. I agree, they should try to find a way to cover other sports year round. Would love to have them follow the new basketball coach around as he's building that program back up. Go Mean Green!1 point

The President Thomas Whitmore biopic is definitely slanted, yet somehow underrated.1 point

"Is it me, or should all OL coaches be throw back, hard nosed men?" As should the OL they are coaching. BTG should be a year round program, give some spotlight to the other sports also. Just as the NFL has become a year round enterprise, we need to market North Texas football year round. Social media does some of that work. A designated once a month "event" during the off season, including conference call "shareholder" meetings with the Mean Green club (after Spring Ball and before the season starts maybe), the football banquet (January), Coaches Caravan (May), etc.1 point

The Editorial Board On Feb. 2, UNT announced its celebratory ranking among 115 top-tier research universities in the U.S. – an echelon bestowed from the Carnegie Classification of Higher Education a day earlier. Now that it is considered “one of the ‘highest research’ institutions in the country,” according to the Denton-Record Chronicle, the university reached one of the goals that UNT President Neal Smatresk set last semester. A sizable part of his State of the University address in September 2016 discussed reaching that level of acclaim, as UNT prides itself on awarding “a large number of doctoral degrees each year.” We are certainly pleased with some of the progress that our beloved Mean Green has made over the past few years, which include the 2015 renovations to the Union and a nearly $1 million partnership with one of the most valuable sports franchises in the world, the Dallas Cowboys. However, it does strike us with wonderment as to how certain areas on campus have seen entirely new buildings, while others continue to age, wear, tear or simply appear to be uninspired. Smatresk stated in an interview last summer that his administration has “moved mountains in regards to deep infrastructure, landscaping and physical changes to the [university] grounds.” He also said, “A lot of people don’t notice and take it for granted, but we’ve made the campus a lot prettier than it was.” This may be the case, but why is it that Wooten Hall continues to resemble a set piece from “Lean on Me?” Why is it that the lineup from Kerr to Clark Hall touts flawed substratum, but their cousin Rawlins can boast about “neighborhood lounges and study rooms” on all of its floors? And if College Inn is fully “paid off,” why is that the foundation has been referred to as “‘iffy’ on the east side?” Especially when it was built over 50 years ago and continues to have expensive upkeep. No lie, Kerr and College Inn really need help. They needed help when I was a student. And that was in the early 2000s.1 point

I've been saying for years the cable companies are going to get killed by online streaming if they don't start offering subscribers more options to pick specific channels. You may not get as many channels, but picking a la carte content makes subscribers feel like they're getting more for their money. Who the hell likes paying for 3 damn lifetime channels?????1 point

I would love to see the growth in ticket revenue if we actually got 30,000 people to Apogee and just halfway filled the Pit for all basketball games.1 point

Well, I would say The PSU loss was a worse loss. There really isn't any doubting that, especially from a perception stand point (It did dull the pain/regional pressure due to SMUg losing to a FCS same year). However, were any of us surprised that what took place, took place? Really, deep down, surprised? I wasn't. I wasn't at all. I bet many weren't. I bet less were that was close to the that team. We were a horrible football team with a horrible coach being administered by a horrible AD. It finally (Thank God) completely snowballed on top of itself. The El Paso game was a game where we had kind of a sort of a decent team. More importantly, we were going into El Paso to lock up bowl eligibility against a 3-8 (or 2-9) team. And we got plastered. Horribly. I was genuinely surprised that by that. Not so much that we lost. More so how we lost and kept losing. Point is, 3-3-5/3-4 is dictated on speed and an above average LB corps. The LB group is unproven. That is why I said last week on one of these threads around here that Calvin Minor having a breakout year would be huge. He has the most experience on this team in that position group and it would be very nice to see that transpire, for everyone.1 point

Yes. But your DE's are typically going to be bigger and therefore slower to the point of attack, particularly in the run. There will be a true NG in this D as well.A much bigger (and slower) DT will be the anchor to this line. Hence why that big tree trunk transfer at DT was brought in here during last off season. Either way, all of that is fine and dandy if you have competent and consistent LB play. But when we have our LB's playing slap dick and getting caught in the mush, this D can suffer and suffer mightily against the run. Look no further than any decent RB we played, at all. In 2016. It's a riskier defense that predicates its strengths to team speed on the back end and throughout the LB corps. Well, when you favor speed, you're giving up strength and size. All I was saying, is that we need to dictate our D to teams that put more emphasis on running the football. I don't want the El Paso Fiasco of 2016 to happen again. To me, as a "bowl team", that was more embarrassing than the Portland State loss. Back then on that Homecoming day, we knew we were a hot garbage mess. In El Paso last year, that was throat punch after throat punch of God awful football.1 point

That dorm room is like a clown car. Seems like two guys could steal that stuff. Not sure why so many were needed.1 point

College football players = stupid. Don't these guys in Lafayette get the national news? If they'd just knock out a coed, like Joe Mixon up at OU, everything would be fine. They would get a redshirt season and some "community service" hours and be done with it. Strength training coach might make them run a few more bleachers.1 point

Dear Smat-Cat, Please invest a ton of money into old dorms you probably have a long-term plan to replace because I only care about the years I am a student on campus. Also, because I mean business, I drew a weird guy with a potion made of farts that says UNT on it to go with this request. Sincerely, The Student Paper1 point

Games - YES, but kids these days don't have movies laying around. Hell most probably don't even know what a DVD is!1 point
-
That is not as much stuff as you think. A TV, game system, and a computer can get you there pretty quick. That doesn't include games and/or movies one might have. None of those things are out of place in a dorm room.1 point

Their non game programming is terrible. They would be better showing game re- runs! It is like watching one of those house wife shows! I This is why a conference needs to create their own distribution and cut them out. We will all have our own custom content eventually!1 point

Even live TV has lag due to the time it takes for the images captured by the cameras make it to your TV. There is no way Playstation Vue has absolutely no lag. In fact many "live" TV shows have a minimum 7 second "buffer" to allow cuss words and whatnot to be censored out for the sake of our virgin American eyes and ears. Lag <> Buffering.1 point

31-24 us. I think we ride Jeffery Wilson, who is absolutely capable of taking this game over and going for 200+. Defensively they don't throw the ball particularly well, which is good for us considering we are awful against the pass and not-awful enough against the run, allowing us to keep the score down. Especially since we can focus on the run and keep the clock moving. It would be a win that would not translate well at all to most of the upcoming games or future seasons, but a win. I have not seen Portland State's QB play so maybe he is capable of lighting us up. Would probably be the third QB in five games to have a career day if it happens. This guess is not that informed because of this reason.-1 points
