I love guns... I love knives... But that's the most untrue statement in the history of untrue statements.

There is a lot of qualifying in that statement. A knife can be much worse or vise versa. What kind of gun and caliber, ammo, distance, kind of knife and size, distance . Who is wielding them. Number of shots or stabs of the knife? You don't run out of shots with a knife. A knife can cut a person into pieces hard to do with a gun. A knife can open a man from belly to throat in one swing, not many guns can do that.

It is better not to be shot or stabbed,

I have not read this whole thread so I am not sure what I am walking in to.

Blah, blah, blah...

Guns. Knives. Whatever. It's all hyperbole that keeps American from discussing the real problem, which is the violent culture we've created in this country.

We have 8 times more murders committed by knives, blunt objects, arson, and human hands than all of the murders in the UK, including firearms.

America is a culture of violence and death, where people will bash your head in simply for not using your turn signal to change lanes.

Let's talk about THAT problem, shall we?

Ok, there's a little lever on the left hand side of the steering column. Push it down for a left turn signal, up for right.

Know it. Use it. Survive.

Silly man.

That would require some acceptance of responsibility. Certain segments of our society don't like that idea. They find it much more convenient to blame an inanimate object incapable of decision making than face the true problems in this society.

And always will.

another shooting tragedy in America and the more reasonable libs (ugh...I'll stay with such rudimentary rhetoric. since its you) respond with the notion that a reasoned conversation about gun control and the pervasive gun-culture that exists in America needs to happen, to which, the more reasonable conservatives respond that guns are not the over-riding issue, rather cultural-norms or poorly-addressed mental health issues...a discussion that would happen and likely some middle-ground found.

I guess in a back-handed way, you're right.

--- I suppose this is an attempt to make something funny out of something that really isn't .... and by some to attempt to make it political when there is nothing political about it .. get real..... Having spent years in a public school this is spooky ... There really is no way to prevent everything from happening. A kid could even break a broom handle and stab people.. More likely to happen is a very large crowded school where kids just view themselves as just "one of the cows". Just remember almost everyone in prison once attended a public school... Teachers had to deal with them...absolutely no way to make them 100% safe... Schools just do the best they can by paying attention to what is going on... .

Big +1s for both of you.

So you are saying that my windshield wiper can knock a knife out of the hands of my attacker?

Agree. This is an excellent point to make as well. Those of us in our 40s or older, what, really, was the most violent thing you saw on television back in the 1970s?

Movies were beginning to become more violent in the 1970s, but it wasn't being piped into your living room as began to be the case when cable television really hit like a wave in the 80s The music of the 80s and 90s got very violent for kids as well, mainly from certain heavy metal and rap acts.

Now, it's all over the place for kids - television, cable or otherwise, movies, games, the internet.

It's a "Free Speech" issue, you see. And, long ago, the Supreme Court decided that art was "speech." And, so, anytime you have the next more violent (or pornographic) thing come down the pike, it's immediately labeled art and defended by the sick weirdos of society.

It's okay to have movies about aimless killings and revenge killings and other type of gratuitous violence you can imagine...it's art.

Pornography, free on the internet to anyone who can pop a dirty word into google...it's art.

Heavy metal and rap "songs" about killing police, ex-girlfriends, rival gang member, etc....it's art.

That's a nice theory, Tipper Gore. But if that's the cause, why wouldn't Britain, Canada, Australia, Japan, France, etc. have similar levels of violent crimes (per capita) as the U.S. even though they generally have the same access to this "art" as the U.S. does?

How big is England? The USA? How many more big cites do we have? It seems like a hard to quantify comparison as equal when most our states are a larger than all of Great Britain. Is there a real comparison and if so how do you separate cultural and sub-cultural differences?

1,000 knife crime victims in London each month, shocking new figures show
