Id like Interstate Battery Stadium, if said Interstate Battery donates a ton of money for the naming rights. Otherwise, if we named our old stadium after an athletic director, I say we name our new stadium after an athletic director. Rick Villerreal Stadium. This had been Rick's goal since the day he got here. I think it should bear his name.

thank you students

In all seriousness if we want to name it after a person it should be from someone associated with the 1956 team. It would be nice to honor the 1st school in TEXAS that allowed integration.

I know that Abner Haynes and Leon King were the players , but not sure on the coach or AD at the time

Odus Mitchell.

But Rick has said he hopes a big donor comes forward and the stadium would be named after that person. Here is a list of DFW's richest people and their net worth (in billions):

Alice Walton, Fort Worth: 16.1

Harold Simmons, Dallas: 7.4

Robert Rowling, Dallas: 6.4

Robert Bass, Fort Worth: 5.5

Henry Ross Perot, Dallas: 4.4

Ray Hunt, Dallas: 4.0

Richard Rainwater, Fort Worth: 3.5

David Bonderman, Fort Worth:3.3

Lee Bass, Fort Worth: 3.0

Sid Bass, Fort Worth: 3.0

T. Boone Pickens, Dallas: 3.0

Mark Cuban, Dallas: 2.6

Edward Bass, Fort Worth: 2.5

Andrew Beal, Dallas: 1.5

Gerald J. Ford, Dallas: 1.5

Obviously we know Warranch is a giver but are any of these other people close with the university? That is the key thing.

This is only conflating the first Black major college football player in Texas with his head coach at the time, but my proposal is "Mitchell-Haynes Field" Mitchell seems imperfect as far as civil rights credibility, but principled enough that once integration was ordered, he didn't do an end run around it, like some of the coaches in the Old South wanted him to.
