Gomeangreen.com To Celebrate 5th Aniversary 2007

Recommended Posts

By my calculations, GMG is celebrating its fifth year sometime later in the Spring semester. (Maybe in May?)

As the only independent forum for the NT community to talk about NT news and sports, I think this is a pretty cool milestone.

In retrospect, what do you think were the most notable conversations and topics discussed?

How should we celebrate the anniversary?

Stadium talks as it related to the golf course being turned into the Mean Green Village and the hiring of Todd Dodge are perhaps the most notable things to be mentioned on this site.

I thought the site was older then 5 years ... I remember it before we started using IPB ...

The "I like pizza..." thread.

GMG Casino night. With all proceeds going to MGC.

Great idea!

It is...I started posting in late 2001 on the constantly-trolled old board. The IPB came in July 2002. Harry and Lo have done some amazing things here. Hard to believe I've known you suckers for 5 years.

I know that there have been some changes and I only joined the boards later (ghosted a bit both before and after I joined :)). I'd rather go to the Tavern of the Green instead MGC. MGC is expensive and Tavern was where I used to watch those out of town football games when I couldn't drive.

Or, we could all hit one of the Basketball games to celebrate. Anybody up for that?

I FULLY SUPPORT THE MONEY GOING TO A CERTAIN CURRENT STAFF MEMBER AT THE TAVERN...

HE IS A GREAT BARTENDER WHO I JUST LOOKING FOR A CHANCE! ASK NUMEROUS PEOPLE ON THIS BOARD....HE POURS A STIFF DRINK!

HE IS ME BY THE WAY

MY MONEY IS GOING TO THE JUSTIN DEARING INSTITUTE FOR KIDS WHO CAN'T TURN OFF THE G**DAMNED CAPS LOCK!

GMG.com morhped from Harry's MeanGreenReport.com. So initially this family is around 8 or 9 years old, right?

^^^^I don't know Firefightnrick, I guess it depends how far you go back and what you call GMG. I was going from my experience with this place as user driven forum (I started reading in fall '02) and the original membership dates that come (like yours) from the middle of 02.

Could Harry tell us? Should we be celebrating GMGX (the tenth anniversary)? When will I stop asking questions? Tune in same bat-time, same bat-channel for the answers...

The dates on user's accounts are off a certain time frame because they moved from a file based web bbs to a database backup. Users needed to re-enter their information into the database.

Before the file based BBS, there was Harry's board, but I don't know if you can count that ;)

It's time to go back to BEFORE THE BEGINNING! It was prehistoric times soon after Gore had invented the internet. It was the early days before registration and password were invented. It was the times when rival fans could trash your board and our fans would do the same to theirs. It was the days when Pottie threatened to 'POAT" continuously on the TCU board.

Speaking of Pottie, is he still stuck in some obscure UNLV message board room.

Here are the remnants of the original old MEAN GREEN MESSAGE BOARD.

It's where the legendary names like Harry, Stebo, NT80, FFRick, StandUp, Brad, George, Scottie, MoGreen, MeanRob, NM Green, and many others first got involved.

MEAN GREEN MESSAGE BOARD

It's where we all got adicted to this message board thing, and was in many ways the start of our current fan base.

Several years went by wondering who the hell many of these people were, and then the first Mean Green Summer Party on August 24, 1999 was officially the start of an actual fan club, the Mean Green Club. Thanks again Rob and Harry.
