This is a Tech PR move and nothing else.  But honestly, I wouldn't expect anything less.  I certainly would want to to see this if he was coming to the Mean Green.

Exactly.  Tech picked him up in Vegas when his UNT career was over and flew him and his family to Lubbock.   It was all for a photo op for their fanbase posted on the Tech Athletic site inspecting Tech's facilities (below).  They gotta keep their fans happy with info and selling those tickets to pay his $3M/yr salary.

BTW, if you want to watch the Tech introduction of Mac live at their arena Monday at 4pm, here is the link...

Agree with everything you said 100% except the “allowed UNT to finish the NIT run”…Promise you Grant insisted on that and it was the right thing and my main argument is the word “allowed” is very ego fracturing and we don’t want to hear it.  😂

But all love brother, congrats on Grant and thanks for posting.  Best of luck to the Raiders and GMG!

That’s fair, allowed was probably a poor word choice by me. As others on here have said, McCasland wanted to finish the season out with UNT and so that is what happened.

I sincerely hope Hodge can keep things rolling and I think its more likely than not that he will. UNT absolutely has the ability to continually be one of if not the best programs in the American starting next season. As a Tech fan, I an thrilled we are getting McCasland. He was my top choice from the moment Adams was suspended.

Best of luck moving forward. GMG

We've got to stop viewing losing coaches a bad thing. There's two paths here, you are either losing a coach because they were excellent, or you are firing a coach because they failed. I'd pick the first one every time. Until we get in the realm of $3m a year we will always be a target for schools with bigger budgets. Mac gave us the best BB in our history, and set the foundation for continued success. It's up to UNT to keep that going and not waste it away.

And therein lies the problem we have had in UNT athletics the 50+ years I have been a fan...now is the time for this to change!  The Mean Green nation needs/has to band together and really support all our athletic teams, starting with basketball, to become a major player nationally. GMG!

No it doesn't.  Tech respecting us and delaying the announcement was pretty awesome on their part.  If he had signed the contract a week ago, as reported, then once the horn sounded and the confetti settled last night, he was done.  They are now paying him to fix their program.  It didn't say anything other than he is now an employee of Texas Tech and being the way he is, it was time to get to work.

It was longer than a week ago. More like 2 weeks.

Hey Guys,

Figured I would pop over here given the official announcement today. First of all, I have a degrees from both Tech and UNT (undergrad at Tech) so I have ties to both universities. For athletics, I support Tech because it is simply a bigger athletics program that plays in a much bigger conference and it's where I did my undergrad which is more special to me than my masters.

I understand why UNT supporters are upset about the announcement, but to be trashing McCasland or Tech is a little short sighted in my opinion. First, McCasland did more for UNT basketball than anyone in the history of the program and frankly handled the transition about as well as could be expected. He has a handpicked successor in Hodge who will likely keep the program humming off the foundation that has been established. Compare that to how Beard tried to burn our program to the ground on the way out, its a night and day difference. McCasland is getting a huge raise, better facilities, more fan support and an opportunity to coach at a rising power in college basketball. He also has a lot of ties to Tech and Lubbock.

As for how Tech handled the situation, I think they were as respectful as possible throughout the process. Yes, it did leak from a local Lubbock station yesterday, and I can tell you that the Tech AD was not happy about that. We allowed UNT to finish the NIT run and it was formally announced after the game. They could have forced McCasland to leave during the NIT run but allowed him to finish it out of respect to him and UNT.

McCasland releasing the video this morning is to actively begin building support/momentum for his new job. He has a roster to construct and needs to get to recruiting the portal ASAP. There was no reason to "wait a few days" as UNT got the NIT title last night. He needs to hit the ground running in Lubbock to put together a staff to start recruiting. The big 12 is the toughest league in the country and is a gauntlet of a schedule to play.

As someone with ties to both schools, I sincerely hope Hodges can keep things rolling in Denton and wish UNT nothing but the best moving forward.

GMG and Wreckem Tech.

Just, ok.

You know what you sorry MF'ers, there is a special place in hell for the likes of GM.  And there is a special place in hell for all you sorry folks that will down vote me on this.  And if you dare to give me a skeptical eagle, a confused face, or even a Ray... THEN I WILL SEE YOU IN HELL... from heaven of course. Because I don't fancy the idea of being in hell. Sounds dreadful.

Sad day for losing a world class coach. But since he really is destined for that special hell place for abandoning us, should we really miss him?

I am excited and pumped for the upcoming promotion of our heaven-bound Ross Hodge to HC.  He is a saint unlike some former HC's of ours.

Instead of lashing out and making cringe like this, ask yourself this instead.

"What can we do to keep a good coach?"

The answer is that there's no foolproof way to keep ANY coach.

So the question should be "What can we do to make it more likely to keep a good coach?"

1. Pay more money. Large donors need to contribute more in order to make a larger pool.

2. Build a basketball facility. It plays a massive factor in recruiting.

3. People need to actually show up to the game. This team won 30+ games and none of the games sold out. Empty and half-empty environments at the Super Pit are deflating, hurts recruiting and hurts the atmosphere.

There. I have now made this thread constructive.

Who really is seriously lashing out?

if they or anyone doesn’t understand the economics of it all then that is on them. For the crazy vast majority of us… we easily get it.

The National Championship hasn't been played yet.

Am I coming to see you hang your NIT Championship banner? I won't be able to make that because we'll be hanging another Sweet 16 banner.

Jesus Christ dude... He's getting 18 million dollars and a chance to coach at a P5 school to win a national championship... Who wouldn't take that job??

I don’t get how Tech fills their arena considering it’s location, the distance students must walk across, dirt, concrete or asphalt under the threat of sunny skies and potential wind.

They get their attendance because there's literally nothing better to do in Lubbock

Same principle applies for schools like Kansas State and Nebraska...
