I hope our coaches take a look as it appears his only current offers are with A&M Commerce and Northeastern State although it is reported that Kansas State has been in contact.  Outside of that, I can't find much information on his recruiting.  He has already been accepted to UNT.

A player can still walk on without being a PWO, right? Come in and earn the scholly like Buyers did. Prove you deserve to be D1, while staying close to home, if nobody offers.  

Also, there are way worse things than playing for Colby Carthel.

This isn't a typical SLC kid. A scholarship is important to him, as is a feeling that the program actually wants him.

Knowing him personally, how much weight could his frame comfortably hold without being a detriment to his movement and speed?  Also, does he project as a DE or a DT?

He turns 18 in February. He is 6'3 and could carry more weight. How that affects his mobility is a coaching question. I would assume if it's the right weight put on the right way, it wouldn't hurt and might even help mobility. With this kid, I can promise you it will be put on the right way. 

Look at his recruiting tape. There is a still shot at the beginning with him standing giving a radio interview. Pretty rangy kid, even at 250. 

No idea where he projects at the college level. My guess would be a 3 tech DT weighing about 285.

Yes and honestly a great time to do it as well, with the # of guys we are losing along the DL and paying for college shouldn't be a problem.. worth a shot at UNT over smaller D2 schools. Come in and work his butt off like he does in his tape and the staff will follow through. If he can't make it I'm sure other smallest schools would still be interested

Could be less expensive than a scholarship to a D2 as they can't give full rides.

I think they can give full rides, but only have 36 scholarships to give out, so they usually split them?

UNT 90 is correct ( 90, I really hated to say that).  A DII can give a full ride.  It isnt realistic.  They operate kind of like the NFL salary cap.  The more you offer one the less is available for others.

For some reason I thought of Evan Cardwell, DT from the Sun Belt glory days.  As a senior he was 6'3" and 290 lbs.  Does anyone remember how big he was coming out of Hutto High?

They can't. At least that is the way I read the NCAA rules. The guys you see committing now had offers before the dead period. Not sure how that affects JC players, though.
