Five Things to Watch: North Texas

When UTSA and UNT get together weird things tend to happen. Here are the five things to watch this weekend:

Welcome to the Dome, Mason Fine

I saw an interesting quote today from Mason Fine in which he said that he had never played in an indoor stadium. This might play in UTSA's favor. The Alamodome gets very loud very quickly even if there isn't a particularly large crowd. Will Fine be able to handle the noise? The true freshman quarterback has played okay for the Mean Green if the crowd gets into the game it might lead UNT into some false starts. Fans might remember the game vs. FIU a couple years back when UTSA caused something like 5 false starts in route to a win.

The Pratt effect

Probably the most important member of the offensive line so far. UTSA was running the ball with ease against UTEP until Austin Pratt got ejected for a throwing a punch. The offensive line will be at full strength this weekend. UNT runs a three man front much like UTSA's. The only issue for UNT is that most of their defensive line is undersized. UTSA will attempt to be physical at the line of scrimmage and establish a dominant running game.

So Mason Fine experienced The Swamp but yet 19,000 people sitting in a 72,000 seat arena is going to rattle him?

Maybe if he has some sort of phobia concerning churros and large women.

Also...we should have Mean Green Man square off with Huevos Fantástico here in a cage-match before the game......maybe Carl's Junior would sponsor it.

UTSA fans seem generally pretty cool to me, but honestly...whomever wrote this either drank more than I have, or is at the literacy level of a 5th grader.  Seriously...get a proofreader, or be sure to write before your 7th drink.  Also, I think he meant "defensive line" at one point when discussing offensive line matchups.  There were so many other parts that made me cringe when reading that...gah.

Poor spelling and grammar plus wrong words mean the writer was sloppy. If they are sloppy on writing they are likely even MORE sloppy in their reporting, research and analysis.

I've never understood not writing an article for publication in Word. You get all the spelling and grammar checking you'll likely need. On my Mac, I also select option-esc and have each paragraph read back to me as I notice errors when I hear them that my eye's sometimes "auto-correct" when I just read. Some thing still slip through but very, very few.

No, I don't do that for basic posts here or other social media, but for real articles, blogs, business emails - YES.

He lost me after he started talking about the crowd noise messing with Fine too. The guy doesn't know that UNT fans will be there too. that 19k will get smaller...

Maybe UTSA fans beating on their 5 dollar fill ups bucket has a high sound output?
