  1. 70. North Texas Mean Green ESPN 300 commits: 0 | Previous ranking: 70 Top offensive commit: WR Mason Ferguson (three stars) Top defensive commit: DE Jaedon Langley (three stars) With their first full class, Eric Morris and staff were active on the recruiting trail and smartly leaned on the deep pool of talent in the state. A one-time Arizona commit, Langley was a key in-state win and gives them a defensive lineman with a good frame, get-off and agility to develop in the trenches. Zhaiylen Scott was another good in-state addition to their defensive front. He lacks some in ideal height at roughly 6-feet, but is an explosive player with a good motor. Morris, who has a background of leading productive offensive units, added potential playmakers including Ferguson, a fluid receiver with good length and speed and as a senior had 13 TD catches and averaged over 20 yards-per-catch. Kiefer Sibley is a compact, all-purpose type back and proved he can be productive, rushing for over 1,800 yards with 24 TDs his senior season. https://www.espn.com/college-football/insider/story/_/id/35564809/2024-college-football-recruiting-class-rankings-top-teams-schools 71 through 75 is San Diego State, Baylor, Memphis, Arizona, and UCLA in that order. Other AAC schools in the top 75: Tulane at 69, Tulsa at 60, and USF at 53. Edit to add our ESPN recruiting page. Worth noting, we have 4 DL rated as 3 stars per ESPN including 2 at DT. 26 of our recruits are ESPN 3 stars. https://www.espn.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/school/_/id/249/class/2024

  2. I think you meant to say.... "Kratch that, we need a new LB Coach" I'm gonna get kicked off this board before the SMU folks...

  4. Always a big fan of Neal. As a student during his tenure, I love his support at UNT games and how approachable he is. As an active Twitter user, he has had to deal with some sticky faculty and student situations regarding politics and race around the 2020 election, so it was never easy! I wouldn't be surprised to see one of our next dorms be named Smatresk Hall.

  6. The ship is sinking because our LB coach is taking the same job at Iowa St? I didn’t realize the LB coach was such a valuable commodity.

  7. We are above the schools ranked 71-75 only because our class size is bigger. They all have a higher average player ratings than we do.

  11. So, he’s gonna leave the DC job he just got coaching one of the NFL’s top defenses, at a place where he played, to be DC in Green Bay??? Nah fam. https://www.baltimoreravens.com/news/zach-orr-turned-down-ravens-baltimore-seattle-mike-macdonald-seahawks-packers

  14. Look around and find a FCS DC who has been successful. Go after him, and hopefully, he will bring a few players.

  17. The American icon "passed peacefully" on Monday night, a statement posted on his official X account said Tuesday. The singer announced in June 2022 that he'd been diagnosed with stomach cancer and was "receiving chemo, radiation and surgery." "He fought his fight with grace and courage," Tuesday's statement said. It's a sad day for the people that love this country.

  18. Neal was a very good president. It’s hard to make everyone happy but he did a fine job with navigating a lot of issues. Talked to him once briefly during my time at UNT and he seemed like a genuinely nice person. Sucks to see him go, but 10 years as a school president probably drains the life out of someone. Farewell, Neal!

  19. So far Tulsa has sighed 12 high school recruits from Dallas. Whoever their recruiter is should be on our radar.

  21. I was looking at lineup and I am really worried about next team. Look at the players we lose and the guys behind the starters I am not sure can carry this team. I guess I should worry about this year.

  25. I remember when he transferred from the UNLV side of the field to the UNT side of the field at halftime of the Heart of Dallas Bowl. The UNLV fans chanted "Neal" and we responded "Smatresk" back and forth for about 10 minutes. Maybe I'm imagining the chant, but it might have happened.

  26. I'm sure in that type of situation, it'll be in the contract that you can't sue to get out of your commitment. Like I said, not college football as we grew to love but it's the best way for the UNTs to continue existing. You have to protect your investment which in this case is the ability to scout and develop unknown talents. The game is changing no matter what. The goal is for it to change in a way that we can remain a part of it. And regarding the Twitter post I provided, Coach Pitino has also suggested the P5 conferences plus the Big East have basketball salary caps of $1.5 to $2 million. He added other conferences should get to set their own salary caps as well. He wants the playing field to remain as even as possible. He said every conference should maintain access to the March Madness tournament.

  31. A few Morris coaching connections from Incarnate Word are below. I'm sure it will probably be a coach with Iowa St 3-3-5 connections. Justin Deason was his DC at Incarnate Word. He's currently coaching HS ball in New Braunfels. Brandon Lechtenberg was his LB coach and he's currently HC at Milsaps College. Matthew Gregg was his OLB coach and he's currently coaching corners at TX State.

  41. First of all, that game was a kick in the nether regions. We let that one get away and may bite us come conference tourney time. Second, this was a let down attendance-wise. I was hoping that this stretch of home games would build off the SMU game and see us with attendance solidly in the 4K range (4500+) , but we back slid into our typical home crowd. Disappointed. I think the team could have used some home crowd energy late in the game.

  44. In related NIL news today... Judge keeps NCAA's restrictions on NIL in place for now "A judge on Tuesday kept in place for now the NCAA's rules prohibiting name, image and likeness compensation from being used as a recruiting inducement, denying a request for a temporary restraining order by the states of Tennessee and Virginia. The attorneys general of those states filed a federal antitrust lawsuit in the Eastern District of Tennessee last week that challenged the NCAA's NIL rules, after it was revealed the University of Tennessee was under investigation by the association for potential infractions." ... https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/39472872/judge-keeps-ncaa-restrictions-nil-place-now

  45. This is all a slippery slope. Now they want to go back to defined commitment letters or contracts for periods of time to the school, lol. Not all athletes in all sports warrant NIL contracts....unless you deem the scholarship a financial contract (which it is).

  47. I think it is probably pretty hard to fill out a roster when only 8-9 will ever see the court. Grant and now Hodge find guys that are high character and will bust their butt in practice everyday. From what I hear, their practices are brutal. I see guys on the end of the bench for Baylor, Houston, Duke, ect. that you never see in a game. Those guys are just glad to be there and probably aren't getting much if any NIL money. Hopefully some will develop into rotation players but some just aren't good enough but do their job at practice and don't complain. That is hard to find these days.

  48. We have been right in every one of those loses….top teams in the conference. We win those games with a full roster. We belong in this conference.
