  1. If this is true, I genuinely wish him the best. He was no longer the answer for moving us forward, but he was a good man and I thank him for his efforts while here.

  2. Hearing reports from multiple coaches and sources that Seth Littrell has been fired as Head Coach of the University of North Texas after 7 season and a 44-44 record.

  3. I’ve been saying this needed to happen….but I’m not going to jump up and down and celebrate. I’ve always said I seriously liked Littrell personally. He got us out of the mess we were in. He showed us what our potential is, he just couldn’t get us to the next level. He is an honorable man, ran a clean program, and our players were true student athletes. I honestly wish he COULD have got us to the next level. But at the end of the day, he just couldn’t. I hope he finds success and I think he’ll have no problem getting a good job somewhere. The really good part about this though is the administration has decided to raise the bar and just being better than we always have been is not good enough anymore.

  4. SL seemed like all class. I hope he finds success somewhere. Sad it wasn't here because I'd rather our HC have a Gary Patterson or Nick Saban type of tenure but it is what it is. There were good times in all this that won't be forgotten.

  5. Seth was kind of like RV. Took over a 💩 show, made huge advancements, but took it as far as he could. Time to hand off the baton.

  6. I’m hoping many who chime in here are able to put down the “Fire Littrell!” Drums they’ve been been banging (along with me), and reflect a little on Littrell’s contributions to Mean Green Football. For me, his legacy is simple: He’s the guy who raised the bar. We were the laughing stock of FBS football (and had been for years) when he took over. He promptly made NT a competitive football team. As a RB by trade, he got the best out of a fan favorite, Jeff Wilson, right away. He brought in a tiny Oklahoman to play QB, and boy was that guy fun! Guyton, Bussey, Lawrence & Darden in his Air Raid derivative made for some exciting big-time plays. His down-to-Earth, easygoing personality was really infectious early on, and helped bring a ton of new fans on board. Exciting games against LATech, Army, UAB. And who can forget ‘Peter Pan’ & that beatdown in Fayetteville, or whipping a ranked Roadrunner team in the cold rain, spoiling their perfect season? Rare off-the-field issues were dealt-with with integrity, & he kept our program clean. Look, We all know how it soured, & how frustrating it got for everyone involved: The lack of postseason success, struggles in out of conference, & inexplicable losses to teams like UTEP & ODU at the worst possible times… But I think after a few years, I’ll look back on Littrell’s time here fondly. Heck, I already do. He’s leaving the UNT program in a much better state than when he found it, and for that, I’m thankful for his time here. Best of luck to Coach Littrell in his future endeavors!

  7. He raised the floor for expectations but couldn’t raise the ceiling for accomplishments.

  9. Class Act, but couldn’t make it over the hump. We wish you well, Seth.

  10. Hopefully coaches around the country see it that way and we get a great pool of candidates.

  11. Seth did a lot of good and elevated us to a program that is no longer satisfied to just get to bowls. In a way, his success partially caused his failure if that makes sense...

  12. I shit on Seth the past 2 yrs but he turned this dumpster fire into a very desirable job. Thank you Seth. I wish him all the best. Good/ great offensive mind. Qb is his downfall

  13. This is no surprise. The guy recruited them here, he was in the locker room with them, and he (more than) likely is a mentor to them. They are supposed to be emotional when their coach is gone. Luckily Smatresk isn’t a football player and could make a business decision.

  14. What a crock. The Murphys are complaining because the coach that their sons deserted is being mistreated. As far as the OU fans outcry, he would likely take a job at OU. Littrell was and is a class act and will land in a good position. However, this idea that little ole NT doesn't deserve anyone better is ridiculous.

  15. He should be commended for how clean of a program he ran but he just couldn't get us over the hump. Can't wait to see who we hire, we really need to move quickly which is tough without an AD.

  16. The candidates that being talked about on public forum seem to be very poor choices. One of the reasons Mc was hired for BB is because he had HC experience. I believe it should be the same for football. We can’t afford another HC in training.

  17. You know, if players like the Murphy twins would have honored their commitments and continued playing for Littrell, he might have won more games and kept his job. Just saying.

  18. I knew someone would do this. Shame on you.

  19. If our leadership decided to fire a coach due to 10 fans yelling at a BB game then we're in bigger trouble than simply having SL as our coach.

  21. For the first time, I truly feel that UNT is ready to prove it is going to seriously compete at a higher/relevant level. The leadership at UNT for the first time fires a FB HC right after making the conference championship game and elevating the bar of success. To me, this is real proof that our leadership is serious about UNT doing what Houston, TCU, UCF, Cincy have been able to accomplish over the past decade +. I hope for the right hire, having our FB program win the AAC within the first couple of years and establish and sustain national relevance. As for Seth, he certainly was the right hire at the time and I respect him and thank him for a job well done at UNT. Now it's time to become nationally relevant and change perceptions about the mean green. Nothing less than the ladder will do for North Texas! GMG!

  22. Coach Littrell came in and got to tell players bye. Coach Bennett addressed the team with upcoming schedules and practices then both president and Interim AD spoke. AD asked kids to wait and see who they hire before looking around Not a lot of big news, but some news

  23. The absolute disrespect on Twitter from non-UNT people... As if, how dare we fire a .500 coach at North Texas. But, then again, we have freaking alumni that will read this post that genuinely believe the same thing.

  25. UNT only had 1 conference loss in October, and was sitting at 6-4 with a very real possibility of running the table to finish 8-4. That would have saved SL's job even with a CCG loss, the university was committed to let SL have a fair shot at keeping his job. The timing isn't perfect for sure, but it's better to do it now than waste another year floundering in the AAC, while having to spend more money because you had to extend your coach. I'd wager a lot of planning and prep had already been put in place by WB, Mosley, and Smatresk.

  26. Fans at bigger schools are outraged that we don't accept forever losing bowl games and being stomped in OOC games against good teams. I am beginning to suspect they don't have our best interests at heart.

  27. Wonder if all those OU fans would like to hire him if it was so stupid for UNT to fire him? They’re all chomping to get rid of Venables… Come get your guy! Of course, Lil’ ol’ UNT should just be thankful someone who wore crimson & cream would take on such an inferior job, right? I hate OU fans, & I hate the perception of NTs place in CFB. It’s time for NT to move up the ladder. Littrell did his part. I’m grateful for that. Onward & upward!

  30. A new coach was the only thing I wanted for Christmas this year. Looks like Christmas came early!!!!!!! I wish Littrell and his family good fortunes at his next stop, and hope he grows from his experience as our coach. He did some good things here in Denton, but in the end the overall record and the struggle against winning programs was too much. UNT had to make this change to be taken seriously as we transition to the AAC and hope to compete for titles in that conference against the likes of SMU and UTSA. I'll be increasing my Mean Green Fund contributions for next year. I hope others will too. Go Mean Green!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  32. It’s bittersweet to me because those first 3 seasons were some of my favorite Mean Green Football memories. He’s a great guy. Great family. I wish him nothing but the best & I genuinely hope he finds the spark that makes football fun for him again somewhere.

  33. Pre UNLV I was open to this, post UNLV I was 100% pro this, post actual firing I finally feel like mourning this bc there have been so many great things and he’s not the kind of Jimbo horn tooting guy to take credit and we rarely gave it to him so I hope we can finally let go of grudges and pay him respects. Time for something else but damn I appreciate the good times eg The Drive, Fayetteville, a couple CCG appearances, making bowl games, the early times were more fun than the later but between COVID bullshit and general Grace, I find it easy to feel a deep appreciation. Hopefully he will be an ambassador in the future and show up to celebrate anniversaries. He deserves to.

  34. I wish Seth Littrell nothing but the best. His guys never gave up on him, even when things got grim. We have seen the opposite happen with other coaches, and I think that says more than any words could. Ran a clean program, and was always himself even when people wanted him to be someone in front of the camera that he wasn't, I have a lot of respect for that. I honestly wish he could have been "the guy" and taken to us to mountain top, it just didn't work out. I hope he finds a place to land and can bounce back, I even hope he finds a place and does more than what he did here. Thank you Seth Littrell.

  35. Pitt is after Shorter. Actively recruiting a rostered player. He hasn't had time to enter into the portal, so the guy had to delete the tweet and wait for his announcement into the portal. Amd absolutely nothing will come of it and they will probably nab him. The portal rules, or complete lack thereof, is an utter joke. Obvious speculation. But an account with 12k followers tied to Pitt recruiting doesn’t post that out of the blue. It's all such BS.

  36. I'm seeing a lot of praise for SL on Twitter but these two posts were interesting to me because of who they are. Thoughts? Great coach but didn't they, or at least the dad, trash NT on the way out?

  41. I really wish it could've worked out with Seth. He's a class act and I think it speaks highly of him that even in moments like this, mean green nation is pouring out love and support to Seth and his family

  42. The interim for the bowl will be Coach Bennett. Most likely his last game he ever coaches in.

  43. They're idiots and they want us to remain where we are in the pecking order. See if these moronic fans would be mad about their administration firing their coach after 7 years of exactly .500 ball.

  44. I just saw that the OU Offensive Line coach said its a joke that UNT fired Littrell and then all the OU fans agree and said they hope we don’t win for a long time and act like we treated him horribly or that we should just accept mediocrity as its better than we’ve ever been before. Screw them

  47. Great news to me that Littrell is is gone. We have likely seen his ceiling. Not worried at all about players leaving. May happen but making this move is lot more important than losing players. It will definitely put NT behind in recruiting, but I doubt Littrell was on the brink of signing a great class. New coach, new hope. Wonder if a new AD is already identified.
