  4. Would be cool to have some kind of plan in place, a plan that grooms him into our next coach. The dude BLEEDS green. Has NFL skins, and from my view appears to have the rare ability to take all of that and communicate/coach it into his students. I don't know if we will ever see him as a HC in Denton, but I certainly hope we at least give him the next step as an assistant, coordinator, or associate.

  6. Been a fan since around 1997 and this isn’t even in my top five low morale points. We were terrible late 90s, with Dickey a breath away from getting fired after his first couple of years before the early 2000s run. Then immediate after that we were right back down. Anyone else remember that Tulsa shellacking that burst our bubbles in 2005? Then every year of the Dodge years after that initial infusion of energy about the hire. There was essentially little improvement from game one to the last of his tenure. Then the 2014 and especially 2015 seasons felt much worse than this. Our QBs the last couple of years have been pedestrian but NOTHING like the futility of Mac’s last two seasons. Those were much worse. My morale isn’t great after losing the bowl game and then a handful of our top starters. Those losses are going to be hard to replace. But again, coming off a season where the coach actually adapted the offense to its strengths (something we didn’t see often over the last decade+) and fought back from a deep hole and seemingly did not lose the team isn’t going to make me jump off my sports bridge. I am in no way completely satisfied with where the program is today but at least we have a stronger program overall than at anytime during my fandom. I don’t feel the helplessness that I felt at other times over the last 25 years. In part, this is because I think this season might be ok. In part, it’s because I have faith in the AD and we have the resources to make a good replacement hire if needed. So to all of you sky is falling types:

  7. He has been added back to the roster and I encourage every last one of you to purchase one of his shirts. Let us show Shark that he made the right choice sticking with the Mean Green. I just ordered a few myself.

  8. This would be a huge recruiting win if he returns. And it's also a good reason why Littrell & Co. need to stop being so petty and removing players from the roster as soon as they hit the portal. There's always a chance they could change their minds, but it's hard when it seems like the coaches are acting like they've moved on. Wonder if he's worried he wont get the waiver after waiting so long to transfer? EDIT: KD, if you're reading this, all this butthurt from fans is just a testament to how much we think you're needed for the success of our football team! Come home & help get that elusive bowl win!

  13. I mean Ayo was a walkon and played out of his mind, I 100% agree. Cobbs is, arguably, the best coach on this staff.

  14. Offers from all the service academies is great for an RB especially if we have to play the way we did last year and even moreso for trusting character and discipline. We’ve been crushing it on back talent a long while now. A long long while. Bet he adds to that legacy.

  16. Gunnell has the credentials, the arm, etc. Decision making? that is something that is learned, but in his tape he didn't do terrible for a young starter against good defenses. Seth took a chance on a relatively unknown in Mason Fine and that propagated into UNT hall of fame type stuff. I'm not saying Gunnell is the future, I'm saying if he isn't, we're dead in the water. Plays past 20 yards, we didn't have a qb that could reliably complete them in the past two years. Those plays are part of what made our offense so dynamic. If Gunnell can learn the playbook, which he's transferred a couple of times, then maybe he should get the starting nod. No idea how camp is going and would have loved to see him come in the spring. Put another way, Aune better have a master knowledge of the playbook and have worked on his long throws. Aune can be accurate. Gunnell has a cannon that Aune does not however. If Gunnell doesn't start, I suspect a flailing Aune will lead to a benching. I would be happy to be wrong and Aune be the stud I think he can be, especially with his experience and rapport with the offense. However, I believe that moment was for last year, and it was only half realized. In short:

  17. I don't care who's dad is more of an asshole. I just hope we have a QB that can win us games with his arm, and not just hand the ball off 40 times a game (because we saw how well that worked against Miami, OH)

  18. .....and then he regained it. Just in time for a five game winning run. Not responsible for the run.,...just presiding over it. There has been many on this board that have speculated that it was GH who sold Mason Fine to SL. And it was GH who developed Mason Fine. After talking to some parents (parents who knew what they were talking about) at the scrimmage this spring, I am pretty convinced that that is true. Additionally, it was made pretty clear to me that things have not been the same regarding the coaching and development of QB's since GH left. No one seems to know who is really in charge of that. SO, Gunnell could possibly get out there and be the starter. But don't count on hm being properly coached/developed/prepared prior to going out there. Plus I hear that Gunnell has a father that is somewhat.....shall we say meddlesome regarding his status on any team. AND I have met the father of one of the other QB transfers that was out on the field this last spring. The man is very......assertive. This could get really ugly. I hope I'm wrong.

  26. I don't think you look like "next in line" just because you're the DC/OC, or an assistant. What makes you think that about Bloesch and Bennett?

  28. I have to believe at this point he is looking at what can get him the best opportunities at the next level. He knows he will be the focus point of our defense, however perhaps when he was looking at other schools they were thinking of him more in a backup or specialty situation role with no guarantee that he would be a starter

  30. I see it more like a Prodigal son reunion of sorts myself. KD just got some bad advice. I think we should be blaming Marty Biagi for a lot of this as he coached KD at UNT and now is at Ole Piss.

  36. This would be huge and I don’t take it as petty that he was removed from the active roster by the athletic department. Basically, KD removed himself when he entered the portal. He can be added back just as easily as he was removed. Edit: I think KD read the accolades, had teams (Jimbo) chirping in his ear and decided to test the market. I don’t like it but I can’t blame him. My guess is that he waited too late and would end up having to sit out a year and didn’t want to do that considering he has already taken an extra year. My other assumption is that he was probably undersized to play the same position in the SEC and would have to move positions. These are all assumptions on my part, or a humble opinion, and we know what assumptions lead to.

  37. Personally, I would definitely rank him below Zach Orr. Maybe somewhere between E.J. Ejiya and Brandon Garner. But I'm just another knucklehead on a message board. IIRC, Phil Bennett said KD was as good a player as he's ever coached. And in my opinion, his opinion means more than my opinion.

  38. What if the conversation was more than just, "Good sir, I have decided to enter the portal to explore my options?" Also, I like to tell myself A&M couldn't match our NIL offer, and laugh while wearing my "Screw the Ags" Cheerio-stained t-shirt.

  40. I feel like we need to clarify whether we are talking about the worst decision in our history, vs. the most apathetic the fanbase has ever been. I feel like you're talking about the former, and I thought the OP was about the latter. Fun fact about that '81-82 season: you can't find any other moment in North Texas history where we had a 1 year FB coach, 1 year AD (also Bob Tyler) and 1 year University President (Howard Wellington Smith Jr.), all lined up together at the same time. All three of those positions were filled with new names in 1982.
