  1. https://247sports.com/Player/Kirkland-Michaux-46050097/ https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2020/jake-bishop-238092 Crazy that Westlake’s QB Michaux has only one offer to Fordham. He played really good in State championship. He threw some dimes and managed the game great. He is 6’4 and 211lbs. Jake Bishop, I know he is only 5’8 but he has won 2 state championships. That’s huge. He threw the ball great and you can tell he has that “It” factor. Not sure what coaches are not seeing. As a dad that just got done with this recruiting thing, sometimes you just have to scratch your head. Not talking about our coaches, just coaches in general. Seems like they chase the same 300 kids. Coaches trust your eyes and quit waiting on other schools to offer first. Build that relationship and you won’t have to worry about decommitments even to P5 schools. That was how it was with us. Christian kept getting calls from P5 coaches to play LB, but loved the relationship he built with the coaching staff and the commits. We also had 3 P5 schools tell our coach that they thought Christian was a great athlete , but wanted to wait until after signing day to offer. Games they play!!! Just a proud dad’s 2 cents. 8. Sorry to pseudo hijack the thread, but Matt Rhule would be the perfect "next coach" for the Dallas Cowboys. The only problem with that is that Rhule would never tolerate JJ's meddling and JJ would never agree to (what I would guess to be) Rhule's "keep your hands off my daily operations".........Rhule.

  9. Not sure I think this is great news. As head coach you have lots of things to control. Not having a OC you trust to call plays I think limits the concentration in other areas. May work out great, but is concerning to me.

  10. He's hard to beat as a high school coach though. Might have done better if we had been able to afford a college staff. He was a decent OC here with less talented personnel but I doubt that he'd want to try that again.

  17. I guess it stems back to when they were at Carrol and heard nothing but worshiping and praise from most of those they were surrounded by. They weren’t used to negative criticism. If you ever had a conversation with Todd back in ‘07-‘08 he was extremely egotistical/confidant about his program and abilities. 79-1 could do that to most of us, regardless of the unfair, built-in advantages afforded him at Carrol. I fully understand that. But as time wore on and the horrible losses piled up and praise turned to criticism their family started hearing it, and they got defensive, naturally. In year four in 2010 going into the Army game at West Point Dodge was 5 and 33. The Mean Green faithful hadn’t seen more than two wins a season at home in 6 years dating back to Dickey’s ‘04 season and everyone was sick of the losing. The alumni association had a pregame tailgating party set up for those who made the trip. One of our biggest donors(at the time) and long time suffering fans had just welcomed a couple of West Point alumna who had walked up and they were all discussing the two teams. At some point in the conversation our alumn stated something critical about how poorly we were currently playing. When he said it he didn’t see Dodge’s wife Elizabeth walking behind him and she heard what he said and lost her $hit and let them all have an ear full and stormed off. When I learned of this incident I knew the end wasn’t far away. Dodge was fired four weeks later. Rick

  18. I could understand a little more if he had a decent record and was competitive and he was forced out. Additionally, maybe if he had not been so hell bent on bringing in a HS staff he might have fared better.

  19. Wow, I had no idea. Thanks Rick. I feel like they should channel their hate toward RV as he is the one that hamstrung Todd Dodge. At the very least, Apogee was helped along by Dodge’s efforts. At most, it wouldn’t have happened if not for his connections and baby kissing.

  21. I believe Upton was replacement for Kerl. It is unfortunate about Kerl. He is a great football player. Hopefully he can go to Juco and get those grades up and come back next year. After watching Upton in State Championship this is a huge pick up for us and not a replacement. This kid is a baller and don’t let his size fool you. With him going up in January with Christian and Dane is also huge. Excited about this class.

  22. I don’t think the number of people in the stands has ever had an impact on whether or not I watch a game.

  23. I get ticket revenue isn't the biggest factor in these games, but if I flip thru the channels and stumble upon a game with 500 people in the stands, that doesn't get me to stay tuned in.

  29. Speed is always a great asset to have but some teams, such as us, struggle on 3rd or 4th and short, a guy with strength and bulldozing ability is a good thing to have. I'd take him if we cant fill a slot!

  32. John Savage (as many mentioned) Jim Mudd - even though he played only 2 seasons in Denton, he appears near the top in several all-time school categories. He averaged 25.2 points per game and 11.5 rebounds/game. In addition, he earned All Missouri Valley Conference team honors both years and at one time was the ninth leading scorer in the nation. Playing in the Missouri Valley Conference, Mudd went up against many formidable opponents including Cincinnati (#1 in the country), Bradley, St. Louis, Houston, and Wichita State. His battles with Cincinnati’s Oscar Robertson were amazing.

  33. I think getting our asses handed to us TWICE by FAU in 2017 for a grand total of 110-48, in Mason Fines BEST statistical year Mason Fine career Passing Stats Year Team G Cmp Att Comp % Yds Yd/A TDs Int Sacked Yds 2016 NorTx 10 155 261 59.4 1572 6.0 6 5 36 243 2017 NorTx 14 324 511 63.4 4052 7.9 31 15 39 289 2018 NorTx 13 303 469 64.6 3793 8.1 27 5 24 183 2019 NorTx 12 257 414 62.1 3088 7.5 29 9 26 178 Career 49 1039 1655 62.8 12505 7.6 93 34 125 893 is a much better example of FAU being miles ahead of us than them beating SMU. Let's see, haven't we had this conversation already about Boise St., South Florida, and to a certain extent UTSA?

  36. If we are ever going to be a great winning program, than we first have to win against our peers when it comes to hiring coaches, and than win against our peers in the recruiting wars. In my opinion, winning on the field should be the natural result of winning in the first two areas. In my opinion, FAU is currently ahead of us because they have cleaned our clock in coaching hires and recruiting. You can agree or disagree, but the proof is in the results.

  38. That’s why I like the eye test. In games that I was at and in games that mattered I saw lousy blocking, especially on the edge and at times confusion at picking up stunts and blitzes. This was a carry over from where we left off in the NM Bowl last year. Worst, I saw a continuation of poor snaps. How we cannot get that corrected over a season points to bigger issues than just the blocking. But if it’s stats you want here’s two: Sacks Allowed (10th in conference) Tackles For Loss (11th in conference). Rick

  40. This is what any coach should do, right? Adapt scheme to the talent available. I never really had an issue with the 3-3-5. The issue I had was never changing out of it. It just felt like we were a one trick pony last year. We could have easily run a 4-3 front in situations, but didn’t. Hope Bowen comes in here and lights a fire. I love it when we score, but a good defense sure is fun to watch, too. GMG!

  41. I am a little conflicted about how this game turned out. On one hand, I am glad SMU was humbled by a CUSA team. However, on the other hand, it just makes FAU look like they are miles ahead of us in this conference for a team that has only been playing football since 2001. This is their 19th year of playing football and they are already doing what we can't. There is no reason that we should not be dominating them year in and year out.

  42. No. Fans have a right to express how they feel about a hire. If the administration doesn't want fans "crapping" on their hire, than they should make better hires. Look, I hope Bowen fields a top 10 defense next season. I really do. But, his recent history does not indicate that will be the case. I want proven FBS winners at these coordinator positions. Our program is at a point where we will either correct our misfortunes and get back to bowling, or collapse and be condemned to another decade of bottom-feeding. I'm not happy gambling our future on a "change of scenery" building us a respected defense. The fact that on the same week FAU has apparently schooled us at hiring a guy for the same position really stinks. There is no way to spin it in our favor. I thought Littrell could have found a better DC, and he should have. I doubt their is a UNT fan on this board that actually believes Bowen is better than Leavitt. Can we not hold our coach to the same standard as FAU? Is that really too much to ask? By the way, I didn't give you the down vote. I don't work like that. +1 to even you up.
    1 point
  43. This is my point. Leavitt is the level of hire we should have aimed for, and why I question the Bowen hire. The down voters on here won't like reading this, but hires like Leavitt are why FAU has two C-USA conference titles and we don't.

  44. Seeing that FAU just hired Jim Leavitt as their new DC, I’m officially underwhelmed by our hire. That’s a peer program. We gotta aim higher.

  45. SMU is an 8 1/2 point favorite per ESPN I’m sure other sites have a different line. This is essentially a home game for FAU but that doesn’t matter. The best team in this conference is very likely going to get destroyed in this game in front of hundreds of fans 😕

  46. I'm a subscriber to coach Edwards' philosophy: Play to win the game. So yes, pretty please, win NOW! As far as mortgaging the future to try and win now, I don't see him doing that, at least with the biggest indicator of such: Recruiting. He seems to be dedicated to building long-term.
