Your exactly right that city councils waste money...in every way imaginable. But the only reason you should ever see city FF’s collecting money in the streets with a boot is for The Muscular Dystrophy Association or some other charity,....not to raise money for departmental funds. Volunteer departments on the other hand in rural, non-city locations will hold fund raisers such as barbecues, fish fry’s, silent auctions or golf tournaments to raise money for operating expenses. I thought this was kind of funny. Those commercials do seem bizarre. https://uproxx.com/tv/matthew-mcconaughey-lincoln-commercial-pool-table/2 points

Not sure if this belongs on this board or not but SWC Round Up that covers Texas college football teams and has given us a lot of coverage is, at least for now, not going to be updating the site anymore. Article he posted is below. I didn't realize it was a one man show. He put out a lot of content considering he was one guy. https://swcroundup.com/news/2019/1/23/thanks2 points

I have read where many state that baseball is a very expensive sport. Does anyone have any numbers to quantify that statement? I was just curious because it doesn't seem like it would cost too much to operate (minus any stadium construction costs)2 points

I'm thrilled we have two games on the list. Having 20% shows at least some of the DMN reporters think we matter.2 points

Brian Grubb is a national treasure. His personal story is pretty interesting as well, but I'm a sucker for his looks at commercials. I just don’t hold as high of an opinion of the aac as some do. I think it’s an okay conference but dangerously close to a lateral move to me. It’s up but not the big Step I want for UNT. GMG2 points

In this article, the writer seems to be on both sides of the issue, but not in an analytical manner. He opines that it cost too much money, but by golly NT fans deserve a baseball team. Would someone explain to this writer what being in debt means. There is a difference in debt and deficit. NT is in debt primarily to pay off Apogee. Most all division 1 teams are in debt to finance facilities and also run a substantial annual operational deficit. Baseball is a very expensive sport that seldom comes close to paying for itself. It is also problematic from a Title IX perspective. It is in NT's long-term plans but the timing continues to be delayed. Startup cost would be substantial as a baseball field must be constructed that even with donations would probably add to NT's debt.2 points

We will fine and so will he. And he is already the modern day Sears Woods to me. I was there.... and it was incredible. I'm more worried about replacing him as a punt catcher than as an inside receiver.2 points

This is great news and things at Athletics are going great in many areas. Not sure however why we can't let RV stay out of these conversations. He did many good things over his time at UNT and some that some disagreed with. That being said there is no need to continue to bash someone over disagreements we had in the past. RV moved on but is still active and supporting and a real fan of UNT. Move on Guys!!!!!2 points

I think D1 baseball has 11 scholarships per team, could be wrong. Also, I am willing to bet that people would spend $5 or $10 for tickets to a good D1 baseball game negating some of the costs.1 point

Comparatively, you can take baseball versus a sport like, say volleyball or soccer. Volleyball really only requires player protective gear, a ball and a net. Gymnasiums are not hard to find on a college campus, and can be utilized for other purposes. Soccer, for example, take a ball, a field and a couple of goals. Player protection comes in, too, with shin guards, and other items. Baseball on the other hand requires a field which cannot be generally utilized for the rest of the campus population, bats, balls, batting cages, pitching machines, player safety equipment like helmets and catching gear, gloves, bases that need to be replaced periodically, on and on. I'm sure I missed some of these aspects with vball and soccer, but just off the top of my head, I can see why baseball is significantly more expensive than other sports. Also baseball supports several more players than vball and soccer, so scholarships, and equipment provided for the high number of players all plays into the cost.1 point

Great to see Adaway in Spring Ball... wt training, conditioning and maybe a little more weight and he could be playing next season!1 point

he will be missed, it was nice to have a punt returner who you did not have to worry if he was going to drop the ball.1 point

Yes. Eye opening discourse about giving men the right to a fair trial has changed my mind about the college student's editorial that asks for more women's claims to be taken seriously enough to lead to a fair trial - right down to making most rape claims somehow political because you saw a few on the TV lately. Skipper's dedication to drawing out the worst of the smooth-brained chuds for clicks is truly the fullest and best evolution of The Eagle's Nest.1 point

Thanks Keegan. You provided perhaps the most unbelievable moment I can recall as a fan (I understand that is debatable). Your name will be legendary here for generations ahead. Sears Woods-style. I wish you well and a long, happy, safe career in fire fighting. GMG1 point

Or the losing hires he made over and over that led to UNT being a big pile of suck. Or the country club manner in which he "led" the department to the point of running people off and not really giving a fuuu. The donors he brainwashed and was stuck in content of not driving the envelope for more. And even had he wanted to he couldn't, because of the aforementioned suck. I will thank him for his part in getting Apogee, whatever part he had in that.1 point

Baylor will probably be our conference mate in whatever CUSA/AAC turns into after the Big 12 implodes. I don't know why they're being all high and mighty. Baylor doesn't bring much to a potential future conference aside from currently being a P5.1 point

Conversely, we could also not care and let them say whatever stupid crap they want and not let it impact us in any way. Just throwing out another idea.1 point

A LOT of disrespect in the Baylor forum. Lets flood it like K-State did to us. https://sicem365.com/forums/2/topics/40051/11 point

Because it's fun, your should try it. And he sucked in so many ways. Now that I got my sarcasm out of the way, here's a more serious response. While he may have done a few good things during his tenure, the mind wonders how much more someone else like WB could have done and accomplished during that time. The longer that WB is here and the more WB does, the more I wonder how far we would be if we never hired him. In his 15 years here, I'm guessing someone like WB would have been able to accomplish what RV did in about 5-7 years. So by my own estimation, that puts our athletic programs behind by about 8-10 years. I'm glad to have him as a fan and supporter. But he shouldn't have been the AD for nearly as long as he was. I have moved on to supporting WB and company. However, I like to take opportunities like this to reminisce and show my appreciation that RV is gone.1 point

Is Garrison Johnson from Manvel even still a topic of conversation after he refused to sign early ? Talk about somebody that went from the penthouse to the outhouse. Could he even walk on at this point ?1 point

We've had some solid Tongan players under the Littrell era in the Mose brothers and Taaulo. Let's keep it going!1 point

I think McCasland leaving directly for Baylor (if they ever get tired of Drew) is MUCH MORE LIKELY than Littrell leaving directly for OU. However, i highly doubt either of those scenarios happen, and we eventually lose both anyway.1 point
