I'll also add that the band's director, Alan Baylock, is a Pittsburg native and grew up watching Joe destroy offenses. He later got his Master's at UNT in the early 90s. Recording this video today was really special for him. ----- While I have ya'll here, the band released its annual album today. Lab 2018 | The Rhythm of the Road is available on all major streaming services, iTunes, Amazon, GooglePlay, and our Online Store. It has been submitted into six different NARAS categories for the 61st Grammys. Give it a listen or two to hear the music our students and faculty are writing and recording these days! https://store.music.unt.edu/lab-20186 points

I think the next realistic level for us would be being on par with University of Houston. Basically a P5 level school in a G5 conference. Consistent winning records, bowl games, big recruits, solid TV for games, attendance around 35K-42K, periodic moments of being ranked, big wins over highly ranked opponents, NY6 game, etc.. You get the point.6 points

Trust me... there are easier drives in C-USA than in the WAC/MW. 8 hours east and your in Jackson, Miss. 8 hours west and you are in.....Texas. UNT is 4-0 for the first time in forever. Put about 5 years of those together along 5 years of C-USA Championships 5 bowl wins before worrying about moving "up". I don't see an 'up' unless you move into the SEC or become No.11 in the Big 12.5 points

Technically, we are in second place, since Southern Miss has won a conference game already, and 1-0 is better than 0-04 points

My wife is an A&M grad in grad school at UNT. She has another A&M grad friend also in grad school at UNT. That A&M grad is going to her first UNT football game this weekend with a group of her friends. This is fantastic on a couple fronts. 1) Grad students attend much less than undergrad. 2) We’re decent enough and making enough noise that an Aggie and her Aggie friends are going out of their way to attend a UNT football game4 points

The more North Texas wins the more people will root for this team. Who doesn’t like an underdog?!4 points

Kinda my thoughts. I think it only makes sense because of the statue unveiling. It's an extra tribute provided Joe was good with it. Not sure I'd like an annual tradition. Although I'd get to like anything Joe wanted. LOL.4 points

What is the most amazing thing to me is a proactive athletic department that is busting their asses to get us exposure and build the momentum of a 4-0 start. It wasn't that long ago that certain people in the department would say, we don't need to promote anything.4 points

Correct. He looked good against Rice (178 yards), but that was Rice. He then ran for 50 yards against FAU and 19 yards against Troy.3 points

Retired Numbers are just that...retired. Never to be worn again, in honor of the great individuals who wore those numbers. In this one exceptional, once in a lifetime situation, with that great individual being present and on a day when he is being further honored, I can see it being done. JMHO.3 points

well, in futbol, they list the home team first....so some futbol fan made this site...just the wrong football fan3 points
-
ok...this is nit-pickng....But, usually (at least it's he way I've always thought...) the home team is listed last... Am I wrong on this? Because they dont actually show the city the game is located in.... If I'm incorrect, I'll take the post down.. Just dont want the casual fan to google the schedule and think we're out of town, when we're actually not... Thoughts?3 points

North Texas has four retired numbers. Those are #28 Abner Haynes, #33 Ray Renfro, #55 Richard Gill and #75 Joe Greene. I like what we are doing as a one time promotion, but would also like to see the department recognize these other players/numbers. I fully understand that Joe Greene put us on the map and is the greatest DT of all-time and in the Hall of Fame, but Mr. Haynes, for example, broke the color barrier and was treated terribly by opposing teams, along with Leon King. I love what Mr. Greene and his family have meant to North Texas, but I would like to see the following done at some time in the near future. I would love to see a statue of Mr. Haynes and Mr. King together. Sure, Abner Haynes was the focal point because of the success he realized at North Texas and with the Kansas City Chiefs, but these two men sacrificed and suffered greatly through breaking the color barrier in the late 50's. I feel that their story should be put out there for all to read and a statue honoring them should be placed outside of Apogee.3 points

Story time: My wife went to Syracuse and they have a sacred number (44) that has been retired across all sports. It was retired after two other players wore it. It was Ernie Davis' number, who was the first African-American player to win the Heisman Trophy in 1961. All that being said, Joe Greene's number could have the same significance to our university as 44 for Syracuse. It'd be awesome to see it treated the same way at UNT. Yeah I'm aware of the garage sale and while that is definitely an option I would just think that by now we the fans would be able to purchase a quality replica made by Nike. I don't understand why that is not available year round for both people to purchase in person and online.3 points

Don’t they have the largest sports radio audience in the country? This is really, really good pub3 points

I've posted this several times that we need to clean up the commercial before showing it again at the stadium. The audio is embarrassing (and was worse in Fouts.) This is awesome and love the split screen too. If they don't play this version at the game, I'm gonna' put my foot up somebody's a$$!!! I’m going to prepare to tailgate this week, because I know that any given week another tailgater can beat me. I’m going to make sure that I’m in my seat and I’m prepared for all three phases of beer drinking, nacho eatin’ and Mean Green screaming. I will easily be the most excited to watch the mean Green this weekend. At the end of the day, I’m going to Hooter’s to celebrate, and when the wings come out I’m gonna dominate their ass!3 points

I just love that finally the music is finally clear...The sound quality of that commercial has decomposed over the years....Well done One O'Clockers!3 points
