  1. Dream world, or just being realistic. It would be disasterous financially to join the Big East considering the travel costs alone. Some of you lose sight of that fact just because you could be in a confernce with UConn and Cincy, who have been marginally successful in football and are looking to move to the ACC at first choice. That same conference they are running away from that includes UConn (marginal football/see what happens to BBall with Calhoun's retirement), Cincy (trainwreck of Turbeville as HC in FB, and so-so BBall after Huggins left) and Houston (good football/basketball-who knows) also includes the likes of Temple and Tulane that have zero appeal. Well, Tulane has New Orleans. The Big East is slowly withering away. Being in a conference with regional teams is the most financially responsible thing we can do at this time.

  2. I tend to agree with this but for two points. 1. I believe there are some wealthy alums who want to give money to have baseball. If they want to give millions you allow them to do it. If they are happy, they will be much more likely to give when you need money for other projects. 2. It may make us more desirable to other conferences to have baseball. I don't see why it would because it's not really a revenue sport, but then again I'm also not invited to conference meetings where these things are discussed. So if it makes that kind of impact, then you do it.

  3. So they will stop doing something that is against the rules in favor of doing something that is against the rules and against the law? If that is the case, I have some serious doubts about the University's ability to educate these kids.

  6. A better scheduling plan would have saved this school 400k.tou know, like getting at least a 2 for 1 against Iowa. Lets not forget we were scrambling to fill this hole in the schedule with a 1 and done because we had no slots for a 1 and 1 due to a very poor sxheduling plan by the AD. I do credit the AD for fixing a problem that they created, though. But it's 400k that could have been put to use in a better place. Oh, and ULM just signed a one and one with Wake Forest. That's right. ULM.

  7. Ummm... how is paying half a payout a large guarantee? Anything under $500,000 for a 1 & done is a bargin in today's college football market.

  10. Craig brought it up...George jumped him about doing that....then tried to perform damage control, saying something like, "oh, weren't you choosing between something semi-important and the LeHigh-UNT game so I told you to choose the important thing". Craig argued back, saying George just told him "don't bother coming". George was not happy that Craig shared it. It was obviously not George's intent to ever let that get out. Fact remains, our play-by-play guy, and one of the most optimistic of all Mean Green faithful was just like the rest of us....beaten down by how badly this team has underachieved.

  11. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/olympics-fourth-place-medal/ioc-cuts-wrestling-2020-olympics-125709336--oly.html I'm not necessarily a huge wrestling fan, but this seems like a crazy move. I mean, ping pong and badminton are Olympic sports now, and they cut an event that has been in the Olympics since ancient times?

  12. I seem to recall people around here last year getting pretty steamed that our only home opponent was an FCS team.

  13. 90, which of Silver's original 2 statements is your follow up question addressing? I would say I agree with both of them. I hope UNT's promotions staff would aggressively pump up this game. I also believe I would rather see UNT play ID than TSU.

  14. It may be unstable, but I'd rather figure out where to go next with UH, SMU, Tulane, Tulsa, et al., than MTSU, WKU, and friends.

  15. I agree with all of your picks except one but that's a huge difference. You pick Lynrick Pleasant, who had 3 catches for 31 yards (no score) over Darnell Smith, who had 28 catches for 379 yards and two touchdowns. My money's on Smith. This is speculation on my part but I believe that Jamal Marshall was moved to LB largely because we need bodies there. Jamal might have been half a step slow for a safety but would be a fast LB. We lose two of our four top LBs this coming year and replacements are thin.

  16. I think the tennis complex has enough seating. I attended a match about 3 years ago. All the fans (both of us) were able to find a seat at any court we chose. When we can't get 1000 out of 35,000 students to attend basketball games (this year and last year and every year since the 70s), I think expanding the seating for tennis is not a good allocation of capital. There is a reason only Rice has such a stadium. UNT students just don't give a rat's ass about UNT athletics. When I was in school, we filled the old pit for every game. It was like Duke-UNC is now. I think some who didn't care that much about basketball just came to yell and scream Those were the most exciting athletic events I have ever attended, nothing else has ever come close. The adrenalin rush was the best high I ever had. I would go back to the apt. and couldn't sleep that night. I had hoped that I might see that again at NT, but not in my lifetime. If ever I want to see that again, I will have to go to Duke-UNC or Oklahome- OK State, but never again at NT. And before I am attacked, I hold season tickets for football, men's and women's basketball, MGC member and attend every game.

  20. I believe the alcohol ban is in effect while they investigate the incident with the fraternity. They did not say it was indefinite. Then, there will be the lawsuit, so the moron is trying to protect the interest of the university. Besides, at least I was told, there will be only like 2 beer stands. TABC is involved in the process and is not going allow beer to be sold at every concession stand on the alumni side. That came directly fro a person in the athletic department.

  29. You know what? This kinda sounds like UNT is on the road to the BIG TIME PROGRAM we want it to be. If you're complaining about paying this much money to ID, then you're probably one of the ones who also complained about the price increase of season tickets between Fouts and Apogee, and you probably have gobs of money stuffed under your mattress. Or, you're one of those students who never attends any UNT sporting event because it's not cool. Or, you're GL2G.

  30. Its not a big deal if we win. Seriously, $400k sounds like a lot more than it really is in the world of college football, even at our non-AQ level.

  31. QB: Brock Berglund - Expect this. Mac saying DT won't just give up this position is just coach protocol. Berglund is starting to garner the respect from his teammates as a leader of this team. RB: Jimmerson - Last year he had no game experience coming into the year so Byrd started essentially by default. I expect Jimmerson to beat out Byrd in the spring and I expect Pegram to beat out Byrd to be the first running back off the bench. WR (out): Darius Terrell - Brock likes throwing to him. WR (out): Darnell Smith - I expect Kidsy to see time here and may take this position over, but for game 1 I expect the dependable Smith to start here. WR (in): Brelan Chancellor TE: Chris Loving Fullback/H-Back: Drew Miller - Don't forget his role in this offense OT: Antonio Johnson OG: LaChris Anyiam C: Mason Y'Barbo OG: Cyril Lemon OT: Connor Trussell - dark horse, look out. A solid 6'5" 305 lbs frame and was a big reason, along with Berglund/Terrell/Pegram, our scout offense gave our defense fits in practice all year. - Look for Manu to sub in like Feeley and Anyiam last year *O-Line note - The best 5 lineman will play and if that means moving Y'Barbo to center, where he is capable of playing, it should be done. Also, people keep putting Lemon next to Antonio Johnson on these lists. Do you guys know he has been our right guard and Y'Barbo has been at left? DEFENSE NT: Abbe DT: Boutwell DE: Aaron Bellazin DE: Mccoy - Brown should battle with guys like Darryl Mason and Jarrian Roberts for first end off the bench. I wish we could see Alex Lincoln here more, but he is needed at tackle. LB: Will Wright - Look for Polk to play plenty and my dark horse is Jamal Marshall moving over from Safety. Marshall has track speed and is currently around 6'3" 220 lbs and growing. MLB: Zach Orr LB: Derek Akunne SS: Hilbert Jackson - Lee is a good player but he is undersized and plays hard which prevents him from staying healthy. He would be better served coming off the bench. Jackson is pretty well put together and I think would hold up better. FS: Marcus Trice CB: Zac Whitfield - Made Second-team all conference at arguably the hardest position to play in football in his first year playing that postion. Impressive. CB: James Jones/Chad Davis/Freddie Warner - Should make for good competition. My money is on Jones for game 1 at least and I wouldn't be surprised to see Warner move to safety coming off the knee surgeries. PR: Darvin Kidsy KR: James Jones & Chancellor Punter: Blake Macek Kicker: Zach Olen

  34. Not really, if our band is hyped as the best marching band in college fb, which is generated by a bleacher report ranking People pan them when they don't agree and quote them when it serves their purpose As far as this rating, they are probably more generous than the major recruiting services which all have NT in bottom 10, which doesn't even equate to a D unless you don't give out failures.

  35. Was told there is new TABC guy in charge for the Denton area and is not making it easy. In the club level, they stop serving booze at the end of the 3rd quarter. Bet they do the same downstairs, but I was not told anything about that, so just a guess on my part.
