  3. We should experience a recruiting boon for our T&F teams because of this awesome facility. I mean, the sight-lines for the track events... it's like you're right on top of the action!

  4. So on Sept. 10 Fouts slips into the history books as our former football stadium. With that said will it, at the same time, enter the books as the largest (capacity) exclusive track and field venue on any college campus in America? I think I'd position it as such.

  10. Just some additional info on tonight's THSCA All-Star game...Forrest Robinson will be fun to watch, talked to him in FW yesterday and he is loving UNT after having been here about a month. He is 6-10 but expect this guy to be more of a wing than a low post threat, loves to shoot the three and even if he ends up putting on some weight, he does not want to lose his outside touch, he will be in the 3-point contest at half-time and I was told he made 10 of 12 shooting three's at practice the other day. Trey Davis is not on the final roster for the game, still not sure about Jalen Jones either, but Jordan Green will be fun to watch as will Austin Chatman, the PG from The Colony who is going to Creighton. Anthony Walker of the South squad is going JUCO to South Plains, not UTA...although he still wants to go to UTA eventually. North looks loaded compared to South but should be fun game. ps...UNT alum Doug Anderson is doing the game on Fox Sports Southwest with Jim Haller, yet another reason to watch!

  17. Late to the party here, but commenting on the original question. As far as best scenario? The only team we have no realistic chance at all of beating is Alabama. Otherwise, I look at our schedule, and I don't see another team there that is significantly tougher than K-State was last year, and we hung right there with them--probably should have beaten them. So, if everything goes perfectly right, injuries are kept to a minimum, yada, yada, yada, 11-1 (+ bowl win) is our best case scenario. That's not my prediction, but that wasn't the question.

  19. Why do I allow the use of the word "loose" when it should read "lose" to drive me crazy every time I read it?

  20. The only FCS team we'll be playing is TSU. The USA game will be a conference game similar to when WKU moved up. I think we'll be fine in both of these games and I actually look forward to NOT being the punching bag for once.

  21. But it will make news if we lose. A no-win proposition for this program at this point in time. No FCS opponents for at least 5 years.

  22. The old SWC didn't work as UT and A&M got too big for the conference. A new Texas conference without those two and others would cut expenses but sold out stadiums for most of the members would be only a dream. There is not a team in Texas outside the Big Twelve that does not have attendance problems. If you even assumed that the CUSA teams would join such a league, it still would be viewed as one of the worst conferences in the NCAA. SMU, Rice, Houston, NT, TSSM, UTSA and UTEP plus a Tulsa and Tulane for example would be much better for NT but I doubt it would add more than a few thousand to the average attendance. NT has played all these teams before except Tulane and although attendance is significantly better than in the Belt; I doubt it would have a major long term effect. Look at the CUSA conference games none of those are big draws. A much bigger factor in attendance is winning, but it is going to take a combination of a better schedule and a winning program to get NT close to a capacity attendance.

  26. Okay, okay, okay...talent wise you're absolutely right. However, I'm going with the psychological play here. Our team has never played in a facility like this before. The vast majority of our fans have never taken ownership over a facility like this before. Our coaching staff (in most recent years) has never had this much experience and energy. The opening game is going to be electric from all aspects. I think that the overall energy and excitement may be enough to push UH off balance a bit, and, as they start to stumble, it's the same energy that gives our team the edge to pull ahead and seal the deal. I think from there we loose at Alabama, and then come home to another energetic stadium and fan base and pull off another great win against Indiana. We go to Tulsa, play it close, but ultimately can't finish it out. We get two conference wins against FAU and ULL. Start to feel comfortable in our own conference and then make some mistakes in the ULM game that they ultimately punish us for. Pissed off from a loss, we win against ASU. Troy is troy in the Sun Belt and we can't get past that this year but will next. Finish the season strong with two wins against WKU and Middle Tennessee. So, that's my reasoning behind my prediction. It may or may not make sense, but hey, no one really knows how this season will go down. There are a lot of variables and positive factors that we haven't had here in a long time. I'm still hoping for a 12-0 season, but think that a 5-7 win season is fairly realistic this year. Let me finish these two guys off first ->

  27. Not a former player, just an alum. Played HS ball, wasnt good enough so became a coach!!! Love the game of football! One of our kids went to the UNT satellite camp in Round Rock a little while back and he was very impressed with the UNT staff, so I am hoping for big things with this new DEFENSIVE coaching staff. Defense is what will put UNT back on the map. IMO

  30. With recruiting to a horrible facility and having to play in a lower-RPI conference for potential recruits...with UNT rebuilding the next year or two (excellent class of new players coming in) and we can talk about the WAC and our new hoops palace to players we probably wouldn't have shown us much interest before...does that mean we could have a slight advantage in the UTA-UNT series? Not talking trash, just exploring what other fans' perceptions of our new arena and conf. affiliation might mean for how soon the Mavs are a top 150 or top 100 RPI program potentially. Trust me, as a Mav fan, I'd love to have the record and great players UNT has had the last few years

  31. Folks; I just received notice of a historic event for UNT. The invitation was titled "History Will Be Made" and it refers to the announcement on August 15th of the single largest private commitment to UNT that it has ever received. I am extremely excited about this and cannot wait to find out the details of this historic gift for the university. Folks, GREAT THINGS are truly happening at UNT these days, and it is a great time to be a member of the Mean Green Nation. People are definitely noticing the greatness that is YOUR UNIVERSITY OF NORTH TEXAS!!!! Be proud...be Green! GO MEAN GREEN & WHY NOT NORTH TEXAS INDEED!!!!! Click here to view the article

  38. Because maybe they're brand new to the whole North Texas thing and are coming by to check it out, you know, potentially thereby increasing the fan base. Please, for the love of all things, refrain from posting photos of people in the stadium wearing the wrong color. It doesn't make people want to return. Unless there are 30,000 people on GMG.com that can fill the new stadium every game whilst wearing the perfect shade of green as measured by some secret laboratory, let people wear what they want to wear. They'll get the green shirts soon enough once they become repeat customers.

  39. I assumed most of this quitter crap is done in jest, no one who ever watched Riley at all could question his courage. He was a Parade All American who chose to forgo a ship at UT to play for his father at NT, that should give you a pretty good feel of his relationship with his father. Once here he did nothing but give his all to the team. I wish he would have stayed at NT but I can certainly understand why he didn't. Some of you seem to forget his effort and his playing hurt for NT after his dad was fired. I hope he is very successful at McNeese and sets all kinds of records but now my focus is all the players and coaching staff that are at NT now.

  40. Are you kidding me? Really? Riley was a team leader and a talented very fast player that knew Coach Chico's offense. You better believe these coaches wanted him, just not as a starting QB.

  46. “The WAC has been a really good league,” he told the Times. “We had three teams in the Top 25 last year. That pretty much sums up the delusional La Tech position. How embarrassing for them to hold on to, "the teams that have abandoned us were really good" as a bragging point. Man it would suck to be La Tech and know what's coming... Yikes
