FIU wants FAU to join Conference USA

FIU athletic director Pete Garcia and president Mark Rosenberg are lobbying Conference USA to invite FAU to join in 2014.

FIU's motivation is obvious. Why this isn't a surprise that Conference USA might be warm to the idea was detailed in my last post. And the Shula Bowl would resume after a one-year break.

As long as can keep our regional west conference, who is in the east doesn't really bother me . We never had regional competition in the Sun Belt !

Taking FAU would take the Belt out of Florida. Texas State would do the same in Texas. I hate that it has come to this because I wish no ill will on the Belt but it is the reality of the situation. Having Texas and Florida covered up also provides cover against the Mountain West schools and will make it hard for schools like Tulsa and UTEP to defect.

For those advocating the Mountain West as an option, please remember the hell we lived in while in the Big West. Crazy schedules, late games, no drivable games...it's a nightmare...we don't want to do that again especially when the BCS bowl picture is the same.

Just like the Big East is CUSA 2.0, The ACC is the Big East 2.0, and the MWC is the WAC 3.0
