1St Game In New Stadium

We are trying to pin down a date for my daughter's wedding biggrin.gif in September or October of 2011 and want to make sure it doesn't coincide with the opening of our new stadium. Don't need to know who we play, just when it is scheduled. Dates for any other home games would also be appreciated.

I've been meaning to post this.

I'd like to see us end the Fouts era with Kansas State, then turn around and open the new Stadium against Kansas State. Sort of a Stadium two fer.

I know this is unlikely, but I think Kansas State would make a great opening opponent.

I would rather have a Texas school if possible. I've heard rumors of Baylor or Tech......either of which would be fine with me.

We'd really like to know what the date is for sure. I'm hoping for Sept. 3 and not the 10th. She'd like the wedding to be 9-10-11, but would go for a different date if necessary. She does not want to miss the first game in the new stadium.

It won't be a conference game since almost all teams start seasons with out of conference opponents. I don't think the conference shakeups would have an effect on next season either. Don't most conference jumps usually take 2 years take effect?

It won't be Kansas State, because they would have just been in the DFW market 6 months prior. And I would assume we would owe them a return trip to their house, unless our return trip for this game has already been paid in 2005 and 2008.

Also, I'd imagine we'll be hearing about the 1st opponent sometime during this season, at a game or some kind of production where the athletic dept. can sell some tickets to a semi captive audience.

I'd rather see us open the stadium against a name team we might have better odds against. Indiana would be fine with me. In 2009 they beat Eastern Kentucky be 6 points, and only beat Western Michigan by 4. Washington State might do also. If we couldn't land a BCS school, I'd settle for Tulane. They only beat Army by 1 point last season. I'm not saying any of these match ups is a guaranteed victory, but I think these teams represent programs with names that we at least have a fair chance a beating. No one wants to open that stadium with a lose, and Indiana or Washington might get us a televised game.

We will open with Iowa State...maybe.

Iowa St. is already full for 2011 unless they cancel a game. http://www.fbschedules.com/ncaa-11/big-12/2011-iowa-state-cyclones-football-schedule.php

Baylor likewise is booked. http://www.fbschedules.com/ncaa-11/big-12/2011-baylor-bears-football-schedule.php

Tech is also booked as of now, except for 09/03 but we play @ Tenn then and Tech plays @TCU the next week so they wouldn't come to DFW twice in two weeks, unless a game got moved. http://www.fbschedules.com/ncaa-11/big-12/2011-texas-tech-red-raiders-football-schedule.php

Texas A$M however does have an opening 09/10/11. http://www.fbschedules.com/ncaa-11/big-12/2011-texas-am-aggies-football-schedule.php

No way we open with A&M. I'm pretty sure the AD wants a sea of green, not maroon for the first game in our new stadium.

I highly doubt it will be SMU either since we have a long term series with them starting in a couple years. Wouldn't mind UTEP or Houston coming in though.

I also doubt it would be A$M since they play Arkansas yearly now in Arlington. However, rumor on the street is a Big 12 (or PAC 16) team, which I think is an excellent idea instead of opening it against a 1-AA school.

Yup, why start anything new? Might as well open the new stadium by continuing the tradition of getting our asses whipped in OOC play.

I can see 50 years from now telling my grandchildren about how I was at that first game and we lost to Oregon 78-3. What a way to open the new stadium - being outnumbered by the opposing fans, maybe the opposing QB will write something on the walls. It will be a memorable day!

Invite Sam Houston or a C-USA or WAC team. Do NOT bring in a Big 12 or Pac-16 team.

You want people from the community to come out to this game to check out the stadium. Do NOT schedule a contest between a mouse and a lion. People in the community who are not hardcore fans will be turned off by the obvious mismatch.

I say we schedule Nevada or New Mexico State.
