Coach Burton

I don't think enough is being said about this guy around here.

He's doing a fantastic job with the ladies.  I'm looking forward to seeing what they cook up for the Mustangs tonight!

Speaking for many here on GMG.com, it's just so "surprising" that a guy could come in here and take over an 11-win team, and already have them at 13-3!   I mean, it certainly should not be expected... what, with all of the roster turnover due to the portal, and what Coach Mitchell left him. </sarcasm>

Speaking for myself, it's not surprising when a winner comes in and wins.  Immediately.  Without excuse.  Takes the players he has, brings in complimentary new players, identifies quality staff, injects a winning mindset... which turns into a winning culture, and Voila! Wins pile up!

He's not a good coach "for North Texas".  He's a good coach.

I'm glad Coach Burton is here, and I look forward to a deep run in the Conference Tournament!  THIS YEAR!

I’ve always believed culture trumps everything.  Instill (and reinforce) a culture of accountability, no excuses,  and EXPECTED success and you will see the results you want.

I agree but I do think he has had a fairly easy schedule thus far.  We will know more based on the remainder of the schedule as there are some very good teams he will have to face.

Quit being so negative! He is the best womens coach we have had since Coach Pete for sure.

How was that negative? It is true the schedule has been relatively easy, so last nights win was a statement win, just because someone shows some data driven facts does not it mean it is negative. Untwist your panties.

New coach, new roster, new system and we are winning! It's ok to win!

I'd rather wait to see how the season plays out. A few quality wins and some that shouldn't count based on the competition. I've always felt that it shouldn't take more than 2 years to turn a basketball program around. It also helps with a transfer portal in place where you can bring your 2 best players with you.

It was a comment that Coach Burton is the best women’s coach we’ve had since Coach Petersen.  I agree, but Coach Aston was good too before being hired away by Texas.

Coach Pete was a bad coach, his reference I am assuming was a joke.

I know what it was about, but was Peterson considered good?

Why do you consider Petersen a bad coach?  Thought he was much better than Jaley.

I wouldn't - especially given he came here with some good experience.  At the end of the day his win percentage was under 40% here.  Mitchell won around 45% of her games...as a first time coach.
