Think about the recruiting benefits of sending posts out like that. You're letting every kid know that if you come here you're going to be seen by the right people. If we somehow get a few drafted this year, that will create a buzz like we haven't seen in a while. Kids will know they'll have a shot to play, get a great education and a beautiful school, and they'll be seen by the NFL.12 points

https://hookemheadlines.com/2019/08/13/texas-football-where-pff-ranked-sam-ehlinger-among-nations-top-qbs/ PFF had Houston Cougars senior quarterback D’Eriq King and North Texas Mean Green senior quarterback Mason Fine ranked ahead of Ehlinger in the last two spots in the top five.11 points

Driving back home today I’m listening to ESPNU on Sirius. Danny Kannel and Greg Mcleroy’s show. They were talking about best QBs and under the radar QBs. They went through all the P5 conferences then touched on a few G5’s. Mcleroy started the segment and said there’s one QB he would take out of the G5 over most P5 QBs with the exception of maybe 3. (Lawrence, Tua and Fromm) And that’s Mason Fine. Called him a freak. Talked about his accuracy and despite his height he thinks he’ll have a long NFL career. Also talked about Littrell’s offense not skipping a beat with Harrell gone. Kanell talked about the game he covered last year in Denton vs FAU and how Fine got hurt but came back and played. Talked about his toughness. Great segment. Mason Fine got some major love.10 points

17 NFL teams ... that's over half. The other 15 should be around sometime during the season. Well, Cincinnati may be too cheap to send scouts unless they get a great deal on Southwest.9 points

To depend on production from this many newcomers is ridiculous. To accept this many transfers shows what the coach thinks of his team.8 points

Just read he had a pick in the Chargers joint practice with the Saints today in 11 on 11 work. Hoping he at least makes the practice squad. Seems to have a nose for the ball.6 points

Do you think Littrell is better than Dykes? Fine better than what’s his name? If the answer is yes to both, then we should win.5 points

That would indicate something negative about the coming football season..NO!5 points

Remember he was co-coordinator with Foster at VaTech before the scandal that rocked his career. Reffett would be insane not to mine some of that odd-front defense knowledge to help improve the scheme. Also, Reffett isn't insane... Coach Scott is gonna have a huge impact! A quick aside, we now have all 4 defensive coaches who are qualified to be coordinators on the G5 level, all experienced with odd front defenses, and are good recruiters... if we can keep them in place, this defense will only continue to improve because the scheme is solid and the Jimmys and Joes will flow through!5 points

https://www.underdogdynasty.com/2019/8/15/20731605/conference-usa-roundtable-predictions-for-the-2019-season-cusa-football-g5-mason-fine-seth-littrell Most likely Power 5 win for the conference... Cyrus Smith: Not a ton of options this year. I’ll go with North Texas over California. Cal’s offense is terrible but they do have a great defense. Strawberry Canyon isn’t exactly a hostile environment either. Jared Kalmus: UNT over Cal is the only one that’s truly feasible to me, but I’ll go with WKU over Arkansas for the sake of chaos. Eric Henry: I think it's pretty clear that North Texas over California is a safe bet. UNT pulled it off last year in decisive fashion on the road at Arkansas. This year, they're at Cal. While I think Justin Wilcox has the Golden Bears heading in the right direction, they're not equipped to deal with Mason Fine & company. Steve Helwick: North Texas over California is low-hanging fruit for this question. Cal’s defense is elite, but Mason Fine and North Texas’ offense will outshine that of the Golden Bears. The only other games that tempted me were UAB-Tennessee and FIU-Miami (FL). Joe Londergan: North Texas over California. Easy. BUT...I also really want to see FIU beat Miami for the kind of freak out that that would ensue from my Hurricane-invested colleagues.5 points

We are in a different place, fellas. Different coaching, different players, different leadership. Get used to it. GMG5 points

Pure garbage, but everyone can have an opinion. Despite the fact that NT returns more starters than any team in the conference except one. USM returns one more from a team that NT has beaten three times in a row and relatively easy last year. Yet, he cites lack of linebackers and two offensive linemen as reasons for concern. I guess the other 5 teams he rates above NT that return less starters are just better coached. Not to mention that NT returns more all conference performers and has more pre-season picks than other team. He did mention Fine is pretty good, but not good enough to get NT above seventh place in the conference. No one knows what 2019 will bring, but if you are going to rank teams at least have some iota of logic in your analysis.5 points

Seems every day we get: ”Mason Fine connected on a perfect pass to....” ”Mason Fine hit long balls to.....” ”Mason Fine threaded the needle to.....” ”Mason Fine threw a couple of deep TD passes to....” Our man seems to be locked in and ready. Can’t wait for the season to start.4 points

https://www.texasfootball.com/article/2019/01/31/north-texas-2018-season-recap-seth-littrell-leads-mean-green-to-special-season?ref=article_preview_title "Biggest surprise: Late-game collapses UNT lost three regular season games during the season. All of them were in shocking fashion, and by a combined 13 points. The first time this phenomenon occurred was against Louisiana Tech. North Texas took a 21-6 lead at the half and seemed on the way to a dominant victory. However, Louisiana Tech scored 23 unanswered points to win. The same happened to UNT against C-USA champion UAB. The Mean Green took a 21-10 lead at the half, and gave up 19 unanswered points. The worst was easily against Old Dominion, when the Mean Green blew a 28-0 lead. North Texas had a very real chance to be 12-0 in 2018. In fact, the Mean Green were the only team in college football to never trail by more than one score throughout the regular season. They probably should have been 12-0. With an experienced quarterback and excellent coaching staff, the inability to finish was perplexing." We almost gave up second half 10 point leads to UTSA and UTEP as well. Do you agree or disagree with any of these points? 1. Run the ball more with the lead. (Loren Easley's injury against La Tech was the turning point of the season going from great to good.) 2. We have a different OC now. Will he be able to make better adjustments at halftime and in the 2nd half than Harrell? We were outcoached and outplayed in these blown leads last year. 3. Just keep slinging it. Don't get too conservative. 4. Unfortunately our defense won't be as good and our leads won't be as big. Thoughts?3 points

Once we beat them next month, it won’t really matter about all these grad transfers. They will give possibly a 1 season spike but that is all.3 points

See I don't necessarily agree here.... While Cole Hedlund was fantastic....we kicked too many field goals. I don't want our kicker to be that important this year. If we get TDs instead of FGs...our leads will be bigger.3 points

As UNT has picked up their social media involving recruits, they have also pick it up majorly for the fans. The facebook and twitter post with video of players and coaches has been great. It gives an inside look and a personal view of the coaches and players. Congrats to all involved. GMG3 points

Yesterday I texted into the Rod Cast on 104.9 The Horn in Austin about how Mason was better than Sam Ehlinger (Rod Babers was discussing Sam's Heisman chances) and Rod read my text on the air. Then he gave Mason some love and talked about he and others need to def watch some Mason and North Texas this season.2 points

This is exactly what I’m saying. As far as the trenches go, and this is off the top of my head, but I would say this game has not exactly featured good quarterbacks recently and so it came down to other positions. You could make the case this is the best group of skill position players we’ve ever had in a game against SMU. Take that with a good coaching staff and yeah, I fully expect the green to win or I will be disappointed.2 points

Absolutely. And it shows he has no interest in building for the future--using 16 ships from a class on players that will all be gone before next season.2 points

If they start adding these mid-season might be time to start talking about DP 2.0❓ GMG! PS: Watch the NCAA Rules Committee start studying having a maximum number of these you can have for one academic year.2 points

This is so true. Think back to before SL's tenure and we never had any kind of social media that got fans hyped about the direction of the program. Its been so night and day around here. And all it took was Smatresk basically taking over and seeing just how awful things were here under RV and bringing in SL and then Wren Baker. And McCasland looks like the right guy for hoops. Just enjoy it all for as long as possible. Historically speaking, we have had, in football, three periods in the last 45 years with winning FBS (I-A) teams (Fry, Dickey's SBC run, and now) that had multiple winning seasons in a row. That totals exactly 9 winning seasons at FBS.2 points

Sorry Gray, I meant #5 on Vito’s list: Taylor Jacobs, not jersey #5: Tyreke Davis, who should have a nice year if he can transition up closer to the LOS.2 points

They key development here is that the Senior Bowl is finally paying attention to what's going on in Denton. In years past, our guys have been snubbed by their selection committee and missed a great opportunity to impress pro scouts in that concentrated environment. Get these guys to Mobile and they'll get themselves drafted.2 points
