  1. You keep making this to be about it involving a raccoon. It doesn't matter if it was a raccoon a badger, or someone's Chihuahua. It's still wrong to participate in in or be amused by cruel behavior. As said before, university & civil authorities will investigate the incident and Muhammad's role in it. It will be up to those authorities to decide the proper consequences. Your attitude toward inhumane behavior bothers me nearly as much as what happened. I spent 12 years working as a biologist for TPWD & four more years working for a Federal agency. I worked with a lot of hunters & fishermen and they were, nearly to a man (and woman) appalled by unnecessary suffering. Animals die. That's part of nature & it's part of fishing and hunting but to take pleasure in causing pain & suffering is not something that should be tolerated - even on a sports message board.

  4. I know you've had trouble understanding this, but the fact that it was a raccoon is irrelevant. What does matter is that this was cruel and sadistic behavior. Being disturbed by such behavior is not "dumb".

  5. thank you. everyone is so effing entitled and myopic around here. 15-17 to 19-4 and people are disappointed.

  6. CUSA road wins are huge. Especially Saturday games. Winning game #2 on the road in CUSA is really tough. Watching the scores every week, home court is huge for the Saturday game. Few CUSA teams charter. For instance our team probably left Wednesday morning flew to Norfolk. Practiced, went through scouting report, etc. Played a night game on Thursday. Get up early Friday morning and catch flight to Charlotte. Hold a practice somewhere, film, scouting report, etc. Get up next day and play an afternoon game. Because of the way the league does it, your 2nd road game is always against a team that's played both at home. At least we have lots of direct flights. From Ruston, Hattiesburg, etc. the flight itinerary would be much worse.

  7. With this team? We would have a unremarkable record and not have gotten any attention. At least this way, there's attention to raise the perception of the program. The team is what it is. You can either have this team and a worse record or have this team and the record they have now. A tougher OOC would not have made this team better, but the OOC we had, may make the program better.

  8. When I was a few years younger than Mr. Muhammad, I dispatched a crow that I had wounded with my BB gun using a concrete turf roller. After college, I spent almost 50 years working at progressive levels of responsibility and authority in finance, construction, and both low and high-tech manufacturing companies. Of the things described in the two sentences above, I truly do not know which was the most inhumane. If investigation shows that the event was participated in and filmed on a lark, and if there is no recurring pattern of such behavior, I would be inclined to cut him some slack. Young people sometimes do really crazy shit, later coming to know the error of their ways and repenting. JMHO.

  9. Massive games next week. Hopefully we ramp up the promotions to get people out. Two wins would almost guarantee a spot in the top pod.

  10. So is Arikawe the bellwether of the team or does he give us more cowbell?
    2 points
  11. Exactly. I know a lot of people might have looked at Charlotte's record and assumed we would blow them out, but they have mostly been tough at home in CUSA games. Regarding next week's games, a split followed by another split against the F_Us on the road would probably sneak us into pod play at the bottom end of the top group. But, if we have any designs of finishing in the first or second spot, then I think we have to sweep the Marshall/WKU home games. That won't be easy, but I'm not sure the Florida road games will be any easier.

  12. Could Littrell look at Scott Linehan to be our next OC? Linehan has a ton of coaching experience, and recently parted ways with the Dallas Cowboys after serving as their OC. He wouldn't need to move his family, and his son is on our team. Thoughts?

  13. I'm not disagreeing. But for the sake of a sexy season, pub, future attendance numbers, 20-4 does turn heads. Until of course they look at who we have played. We have to win our home games and put away the weaker teams on the road and we'll be fine. Easier said than done.

  20. I don’t agree with what occurred but I do agree with @EagleMBA I also find it a stretch to call this young man a sociopath based on this one event.

  21. I thought this was Smart best game in a long time. Still he was not on the floor during crunch time. I don't understand McCasland's substitution patterns, but can't complain about the results. The NT girls win was also big, Charlotte had a girl that almost single handedly won for them. George continued to dominate in the lane.

  23. Who else would you play in the paint other that Zach Simmons?
    1 point
  24. If anybody goes to Rudy’s on Monday could they ask Grant why he refuses to play Arikawe and Z. Simmons at the same time? Do we really need a four guards to jack threes? Are we working on developing any of our young talent? So many questions after a record breaking start to the season. We have changed nothing since day 1 and I feel like every team who watches game tape can easily stop us now.

  25. Duffy and Miller were big during the CBI. Duffy won us a game this year and missing him the past 3 have hurt.

  27. No. Being a top 100 team means they are pretty damn good. Also they are not near impossible to beat at home. He is a very good basketball coach. There are a lot of very good basketball coaches in the world. Being a top D-1 coach takes a lot more than being a good basketball coach. I like him but I was pointing out he will have 3 20 win seasons against average to bad opponents. Juat because your last girlfriend was a 2 doesnt make your new girl a 8 when she really is a 6.

  28. Marshall is ranked number 1 only because of 27 recruits, their average player rating is lower. Plus as noted it is very doubtful that all these players will ever show up. These late commits didn't sign earlier for a reason.

  29. 2yrs ago we could not beat average to bad teams. Now we are trashing 20 win season and gig’n the coach! BS

  30. That "logically" makes no sense. Great attempt. These coaches don't give a shit about UNT. No one can convince me otherwise. They care about their money and their next job. Players and former players make friends here, meet future wives here, spend 4 or 5 years walking the campus getting educated. They are alum. Coaches, meh. We should treat em like jimmies, because you better damn believe they will and have done the same.

  31. We also don’t have a lot of size to replace them recruiting wise. We do have some solid redshirts who will be huge for us extra season though.

  32. We are not yet in the big players in the conference, I think it will come in the next couple of years. We lose Duffy, Miller this year and they have played a big role in our sucess this season.

  33. I rather be prepared for the CUSA tourney, win it and go to the big dance then a bunch peanut wins against easy teams. 20-4 isn’t sexy if you can win the conference.

  34. To be fair, it's not just Smart struggling on offense. The entire team seems lacking confidence in their outside shot except Gibson. The pressure of the record maybe in their heads. But to their credit, they still play great defense, hustle and win games grinding it out.

  41. I like this and then add Shanbour as a grad assistant or to replace Baker.
    1 point
  42. I'd be on board with promoting Mainord to OC, holding onto Filani and letting John David Baker slide into a full time role as QB coach. Filani and Baker seem like good candidates to follow Graham given how close they all are, but would love to keep some continuity with our offensive staff.
    1 point
  43. Or keep Filani as the WR coach while adding the responsibilities of the pass game coordinator and then hire a QB coach.
    1 point
  44. That's a good idea. Promote Mainord to OC, then Filani to Pass Game Coordinator? Find a new WR coach?
