  2. Love the kids size.....and his mobility. He's the kid that had been playing b-ball and just switched to football...so as you can imagine....one area where he really needs to work: strength. But give me a kid like this, with size, his "wheels"....and let Coach Wintrich have at him....and I think he'll be a really good DE for us. Sidenote: I look up and Sean Payton is walking past me. I guess he has kids at LCS...and maybe flies in on Friday nights....before getting back to the Saints on Saturday? Anyway, he was there.

  3. In 2005, Tulsa came to North Texas to play a game that many thought UNT would easily win. UNT was coming off 4 straight bowl seasons while TU had been 4-8 in 2004, 8-5 in 2003, and a dismal 1-11 in 2002. UNT came into the game as a slight favorite while Tulsa was trying to beat a respected regional team to establish their program. Tulsa wins going away and goes on to establish themselves as a very good regional team for the next 6 years, winning 10 games a couple of years. North Texas's football program falls into an abysmal state, with the lowlights being a one win season and the hiring of a completely overmatched high school coach and staff. Here we are in 2011. Tulsa has lost their successful head coach and hired an assistant with 4 years of college coaching experience (a very successful high school coach before that at Union HS). UNT is trying to re-establish it's football program with a win over a highly respected regional football program. No one really knows what Tulsa is at this point of 2011. The potential sports irony this game presents for UNT fans is a kin to the Dallas win over MIami in the NBA finals for Maverick fans. This is a chance to slay the demons from that 2005 loss. The loss to Tulsa in 2005 sent this program into the abyss. Wouldn't it be nice to have our coming out party against the same team that sent us into college football irrrelevancy? Win. GMG

  5. 7 pages because some would like the band to be in uniform? I find it funny that IF you !!!!GASP!!!! dare to say anything about the band you will get lit up on this board. 1. The shorts and t-shirts would be fine if they were uniform!!!! There are 30 different shades and 50 different lengths. This by definition is not uniform. (for those who say Texas does it, you are right but everyone is in the same uniform from the shoes to the hat) 2. Now the band will argue that it cost too much to put everyone in the same shorts, shoes, shirts, and hats… For a hat, shirt, short, sock, and shoe combo it would be less than $100 if we used the purchasing power of 300+ (as of right now each member purchasing at least the shorts, socks, and shoes anyway, and I am sure if we ordered 300+ that we could get better pricing than what they are paying now at Old Navy, AE, and Wal-Mart) 3. Unless you have been in band you just do not know how hard it is to spend a full afternoon in the sun working in uniform. Having served in the military, I would argue that the soldiers with 100 pounds of gear including body armor in Iraq have it a bit worse than those in a band uniform not to mention the police, firemen, and football players. (Sorry band you loose this argument) 4. The band is technically one of the best there is in the country, however it may or may not translate into the game day experience. This depends on what you want to hear. 5. Everyone has said that the band sounds great! Say thank you. 6. Please be open to suggestions, those of us who have not been in band do not know the reason for a lot of what you do and we will make stupid suggestions. Take the high road and educate us without being defensive. 7. Do like every other organization does with these online forms. Take it with a grain of salt. Look for good suggestions and act on them, find the stupid suggestions and discard them. Now I know I was not flattering to the band I here come the “how dare you” and the -1’s this is the cost for talking about the sacred cow. We have a game today! I for one am looking forward to a well fought game and a win and will not think once about the band! Sorry music is not high on my game day experience, I am much more in to the X’s, O’s and blitzes. I will tell you, however when I played the band did get me pumped up before the game, Thanks for those memories, the drum line in particular ROCKS!

  6. Very cool to see the volleyball team supporting the soccer team during the first half of their match. As soon as the soccer game was over the soccer team and their fans reciprocated by heading over to cheer on the volleyball team. Well done ladies! GMG

  7. Friday night around the Sun Belt (home teams on the left): FIU 3-0 Troy FAU 1-1 USA ULM 0-1 NT WKU 1-0 UALR MTSU 3-0 ASU ULL 1-2 Denver WKU and MTSU get back on track tonight. Louisiana-Lafayette gave Denver all they could handle (Denver scored with 1:30 left in 2OT), which is a very respectable performance, and makes me a little nervous about NT visiting the Cajuns on Sunday. Here are the records 3 games in to the conference season: (3-0): Denver, NT, FIU (2-0-1): USA (2-1): Troy (1-2): ASU, UALR, MTSU, WKU (0-2-1): FAU (0-3): ULL, ULM

  11. I really don't like SMU but they are looking like vintage Hawaii of old with more D less offensive precision. TCU pretty spoiled and they are sinking at the wrong time, right when the B12 is looking at them. On the whole I like the Frogs more than SMU, but SMU is bringing it. Lets go Beat Tulsa! GMG

  12. Well the fact we have a shot at the Sunbelt title after being 0-1 is excellent and if we take care of business next Saturday we will continue in title desperation mode the following week. Thank you LaLa. GMG

  20. It might come down to how we play in the 3rd. If I heard correctly during the IU game, we had been outscored 35-0 prior to that game in the 3rd. So hopefully we have a solid 2nd half.

  23. I came on here Saturday to give you guys and DMac props, but it wouldn't let me log in. Anyway, I caught the tail end of the game. I know it sucked being so close in the end, but a win is a win. This team will learn how to close out games, and then look out! Congrats again, and on a completely unrelated note, could anyone give me the time of this week's game?

  29. Hey Mean Green nation. Good luck this saturday. Should be a good game. Tulsa is getting two defensive starters that have been out this year back for this week. Brown was our leading tackler in 2009, didnt play last season and hasnt yet this year so im definitley looking forward to him being back. And then Rose is a transfer from UCLA, got injured early in the OU game and should be back also. Im thinking our freshman QB will be getting the start instead of Kinne to let kinne heal for conference play. Who are the players to watch for UNT?

  30. If we beat Tulsa Saturday then it will be at least another week before UTSA can pass us by. If we lose to Tulsa Saturday then our chances of an SEC or Big 12 invite get more slim.

  31. One may wonder if UTSA will have the same success as USF albeit the NCAA climate is much different today than when South Florida was getting started. UTSA: Great City + Known Stadium With A Dome (which also serves as a bowl) + upstart program. Time will tell but they have started in a league with a name but after Boise is gone might the WAC be gone, too? Guess some might say we of North Texas have done all this with our football program the "old fashioned way?" Forward ho the wagons! Beat Tulsa! It's Time...

  34. You know how lots of posters hate conference realignment talk or uniform talk? My kryptonite is discussing the band's look and sound. I know the Green Brigade is great, I just never go to a game to hear the band--I go to watch the game. As long as they play the alma mater and the fight song at the appropriate time, I am cool with them. Now, if we create a Band Forum, I am gonna tear them to shreds and talk about how they are a sleeping giant that the Big XII really should invite based on their superior potential.

  35. So can the football team just play flag football in shorts and t shirts until October because I'm pretty sure it's pretty damn hot for them in full pads as well and they play for 3 hours, not 10 minutes
    1 point
  36. I'm ok with what they're wearing as long as the flag waver guys stay away from the spaghetti strap tops.

  37. I would say 96 is a little warm to be wearing them. They did sound great tonight.

  39. I'm here in Tulsa and I've ben walking around downtown, Utica Square, and the Cherry St. area. There are 2 teams in Tulsa. OU and Okie State. Even with a home game this afternoon, the Tulsa World Sports section features 3 Texans playing for OU that "haven't lived up to expectations" dominating the front page. The Tulsa game is a small article to the right of the OU article. I went to dinner last night with some business people that live here. They agreed-OU/OSU are the only team that matters here. Those people thought 15,000 would be about the attendance today. There's lots to compare between Tulsa and NT. Tulsa is a great city. I've enjoyed my very shourt time here. GO MEAN GREEN. Beat Tulsa by 1/2 point.

  40. I would give you the answers(excuses) as to why the big 12x8 NT Battle Flag, which the McKinney family donated to the university and Talons several years ago, was not at the Houston or Indiana games. But it would just piss some people off and embarrass others. Hopefully someone has enough pride and takes the responsibility endowed to them to carry on one of our longest standing traditions we have and make sure it Fly's Like An Eagle at the FAU game? Only at North Texas. Rick

  42. i prefer the suckbelt invite tulane. then north texas can take their spot in cusa and get the heck out of this low rent district. we need to move up the food chain, not make it longer.

  43. Don't worry we would sell out if we were in the Big 12, and they know potential when they see it. We are moving toward a student body of 45,000 in a very large MSA. At the end of the day neither TCU nor SMU can offer that. We are that sleeping giant!

  45. http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/7032707/chuck-neinas-confident-missouri-tigers-stay-big-12 ----------- He added, "There has been no shortage of interest" from teams wanting to join the (Big 12) conference. "We would hope we would not be at eight," Neinas said. Neinas had said last week that there was "resistance" from some existing members to adding teams from Texas. "I'd say that's changed," he said. -------- I think that could open up a conference spot that UNT could fill.
