It should be in the articles that he didn't have the grades to play here either but in spring and summer semester made them.

What sucks for Tony is these reports that he didn't have the grades. That wasn't the situation. It wasn't his grades it was the fact that he went to the prep school his junior year, and he didn't get the necessary requirements for the NCAA clearinghouse.

If he didn't get the grades, he never would have been at a d1 school. Especially a big 12 school. Just ask cam newton.

Yes, it is to me a perhaps an unintentional slap at both Mitchell and NT with the continued reference to grades and Missouri. He did not qualify under NCAA rules because of lack of required credits due to the disallowal of those from the Florida Prep school.

Those credits would not be allowed anywhere under NCAA rules. The difference was that under Missouri conference rules they could not provide a scholarship to a player that did not qualify for the year he would have to set out and under the Belt rules, NT could.

The other thing that bothers me a little is the mention of Tony being a transfer from Missouri. You can't transfer from a school that would not enroll you.

Tony had to pay for his first year at UNT. The reason that he probably didn't do this at Mizzou was because of out of state tuition. The only other thing that would have kept Mitchell out of Mizzou was if he didn't meet their academic requirements for regular, out of state students. I don't know if they do or don't have special exemptions for athletic scholarship receipiants.

Tony did pay his own way here for a year.

I believe the more exact reason is that the Big 12(?) doesn't allow partial qualifiers. Had Mizzou enrolled Tony and he was declared ineligable for acedemic reasons (as an incoming freshman) then by conference rules he would never have been allowed to play. The NCAA tules allow for player like Tony to be a regular student for one year and then play. The Belt doesn't have the restrictive rules of most "major" conferences, they just follow the NCAA rules. Out of state tuition had nothing to do with it in this case.

This is it.

Thanks.
