Two Hilltoppers are walking down different ends of a street toward each other, and one is carrying a sack. When they meet, one says, "Hey Billy Ray, what'cha got in th' bag?"

"Jus' some chickens."

"If I guesses how many they are, can I have one?"

"Shoot, ya guesses right and I'll give you both of them."

"OK. Ummmmm ... five?"

I don't know who posted this originally, but I believe it was in a post a couple of years ago prior to the NT/Arkansas State football game. Some trash talking was going on between fans on this board and one of our posters stated the following:

"You have indoor plumbing? You realize taking a dump in a bucket and throwing it out the window doesn't qualify as indoor plumbing, don't you?"

This would also apply to those living in Kentucky.

I still laugh everytime I think of it.

Kentucky by and large is far from the way most people are led to believe from the TV media.

Kentucky actually has about the same HS graduation rate as Texas and roughly the same poverty levels.

The toothless thing is isolated to the Appalachian region where most people lose there teeth due to non fluorinated well water, Mt. Dew and lack of dental hygiene.

In fact most everything bad about KY is isolated to the mountain region.

Hillbilly bashing is funny, I have to admit. But these people are easy targets and Appalachian Americans face the last accepted form of bigotry that remains in this country.

GEH is now off his soapbox. Cheers!

HS Grad Rates:

KY: 80.1%

TX: 79.1%

Poverty Rate (US Census):

KY:17.2%

TX:16.3%

Mean Annual Houshould Income:

KY:$39K

TX:$44K

(both states are very inexpensive places to live)

How does Kentucky fare against Arkansas?

these statistics don't take into account the immensely more populated Texas---these results are obscured and do not tell the true story
