Southlake Carroll HFC job & Domino effect

| Category: Coaching News

With Todd Dodge headed to UNT, several current head coaches and assistants are likely headed to Denton with him. Names include Clayton George of Haltom, Todd Ford, who is an assistant under Dodge at SLC, and current Wichita Falls coach Travis Pride is also in the mix. Do not be surprised if Beaumont West Brook coach Craig Stump also makes the trip to UNT.

Potential SLC Replacements

Wichita Falls coach Travis Pride is also a potential candidate for the Dragons head coach opening. Other names that have surfaced in recent days includes Denton Ryan's Joey Florence, Fossil Ridge's Hal Wasson, Cedar Hill's Joey McGuire, Weatherford's Mike Sneed and Hebron Assistant Dane Johnson. Do not be surprised if Arlington Bowie coach Kenny Perry become a very legit front-runner for the job as well. Perry is coming off a year in which he helped lead Arlington Bowie to their first ever playoff appearance.

Domino Effect

The domino effect on the Dodge hiring is not only going to be felt in the coaching scene. The recruiting scene is also begining to see a mass of current college and high school players either reconsidering a verbal commitment or asking out of their scholarships so they could transfer to North Texas to play for Dodge. Over the next few weeks look for several big name recruits to take a more serious look at UNT.

The domino effect of the Dodge hiring could end up becoming a much larger effect on several fronts than what many may consider.

Does anyone have any info on these guys?

That is awesome news to hear. I fully expect to get at least a few transfers in here, would be stoked if we got a few kids to change their verbal commits.

Seems like there used to be an outstanding QB by the name of Stump, that came out of south Texas. Did he play at A&M? Deep, or Island, do either of you guys remember this guy?

Dane Johnson used to play football at SLC.

The fact that they put it in print about players re-considering their verbal committment and/or looking at North Texas for the first time, means that it's probably more than rumor or speculaton.

This is going to get interesting.

Stump played at A&N in the 80's. Local papers, however, quote him as saying he is not interested in an assistant coach job at North Texas. Of course, he could be saying that for the public and talking to Dodge privately.

Hold on to your hats boys... it's going to be a fun ride!! But let's not get too carried away until we actually see this "domino effect" start to happen. Perception CAN be a good thing, if they are writing about it.... at least someone must be considering it.

The first domino is in place (Dodge). Once he gets in his office and completes his staff, we will see the dominoes fall quickly! I feel certain that all of the Texas D-1 schools will be affected by TD taking kids that they may have recruited. He will be able to take 2-3 star kids no problem. He will snatch some 4s and even a 5 occasionally! Hard to imagine this is happening!!

Stump would be crazy not to take the assistant job at UNT. As would any other high school coach looking to move up into college coaching. Theonly reason someone like Stump may not be interested is lifestyle. The travel in college coaching can be daunting compared to high school.

If you are a believer in Coach Dodge's abilities, you would have to think that landing an assistant job with him could eventually turn into a BCS gig!

Some of these rumors are starting to take place. Imagine when TD selects his assistant coaches and the possibility they will bring along their key Sr. players. I would love to have William Cole from Cedar Hill (he murdered CyFalls in the state finals), a top 100 state OL at from Cedar Hill at 6-4, 310 etc

We only have 16 ships at this point...Rumors that two HS players have been offerred, one transfer WR from a CUSA school a done deal and a lineman transfer is rumored. Boy can TD be selective. At this point it doesn't include any current players at SLC.....that all being said, we have about 17 prospects on our recruiting lists at this time including the four (the two transfers and the two offers-not the wished for) mentioned above.

OT, could you provide these names to Harry to add to the recruiting list? He only has about 5 or 6 listed now.

Also, what has happened to the OL prospect out of Abilene that had verbaled earlier this year?

Actuallly the mean green recruiting report has 13 prospects listed...the other four on my list are SLC players who have not "expressed" an interest publically in NT and from Haltom where the first NT assistant Clayton George would have some influence (like TD does with the SLC players) and Clayton George has with some of his players. WE don't put a prospect on the recruiting page until we have some evidence he is actually considering NT.
