  1. Good analysis on both your parts. Yeah, the Lehigh game was painful to watch. They made shooting three's look like the most natural and easy thing on earth, we made it look more complicated than a manned mission to Mars.
  2. Here is what the 2011 issue of Phil Steel's "College Football" had to say about Brock when talking about the Kansas Jayhawks. "Then add in Brock Berglund, a dual threat true frosh who I project to be the starter. No matter who wins the starting job, I look for improved QB play". In this same issue, he has Brock listed as the #28 best nationally incoming QB. Anybody ready for spring ball?
  3. Amen. And so looking forward to spring practice.
  4. Spika and Blakeley are still my two favorite coaches to watch. Their teams were always entertaining and competitive.
  5. We'll win at least half, give or take 6 games.
  6. It's sad. But, if you pay any attention. We had some players who could hit 3's last year. They graduated and we have nobody who can even hit the basket from 10 feet away. That is one of the root problems with this squad.
  7. Bottom line....the worst shooting team I've ever seen at North Texas. You can blame the coach, but they had plenty of open looks against Lehigh and failed to either make them or try to make them. Lehigh made them with ease from the same locations with approximately the same amount of defensive pressure. It the players can't put it in the basket, no coaching scheme on earth will fix that at this level. The other teams quickly learn to crowd the inside and ignore our outside game....because we have none.
  8. We aren't worse with the same players, we are worse with some key players missing. The ones we lost from last year could actually hit a basket.
  9. Well, if you count the shooters who are gone, the problem was lurking there and it would have appeared this year regardless of who was coach.
  10. It is the worst shooting team I've ever seen at North Texas and you cannot pin that on Benford.
  11. I was at the game last night and I saw a team that could shoot beat a team that couldn't shoot. On the contrary, I saw the guys give good effort, but effort won't do it if you can't hit the basket. There were signs of this last year....and if I had paid attention to who was leaving the squad, I would have known that we'd be in trouble. No amount of coaching can fix what is wrong with this team.I hope Benford concentrates on getting some shooters. We had open looks and either couldn't hit them or we wouldn't even try. Lehigh had open looks and knocked them down. That was the whole story of the game.
  12. "There are no valid excuses for this team to be this bad". There is one. They cannot hit the side of a barn with their shots..
  13. Rice is going to be one of the better teams in the CUSA next year. Wouldn't count that as a sure win.
  14. The Houston Chronicle's Houston Top 100 list contained two North Texas recruits. Darvin Kidsy, WR, Elkins and Dominic Walker, Fort Bend Austin. Interestingly, ULM had one ( a defensive end) listed. There remain three uncommitted DL recruits, though one is so small and light that he is likely to end up at LB.
  15. As I've said before, the Big East is in danger of becoming the Big Least. A number of their members are re-considering their options.
  16. The other thing to consider in looking at this is that some came into programs that were already on the upswing or well established. I'd say definitely that our situation was a little more challenging than many of those.
  17. I've known and still know a number of Longhorn fans and it is interesting how many of them keep tabs on North Texas and would love to see us emerge as a program. Many of them find Denton and the Mean Green more interesting than a number of other towns and programs across the state.
  18. Meanwhile, the Big East continues to morph into the CUSA. If and when the basketball schools and more established programs abandon ship, the conference will be in trouble with its only solution to try to pull in teams from so-called "lesser" conferences. It is looking less and less like a step up for UH and SMU and more like an increasingly nonviable marriage of convenience that isn't working for anyone.
  19. Marquette has done very well with its half court offense. I think our players wish the old system were still in place, but its not. The thing that Tony Mitchell needs to understand is that in the NBA, he will not get to pick his offense and system and that if he wants to excel there, this is an excellent opportunity to learn how to adjust to a new coach and new offense. Coaches come and go in the NBA and players get traded all the time, the ability to adjust is one characteristic that will enhance his career and an inability to do so will hamper it.
  20. The Big East is in clear danger of turning into the Big Least. More defections will occur and UH and SMU will be wondering what happened?
  21. On the other hand, the Big East (especially with one or two more defections) is just turning into a geographically impossible version of the CUSA and MAC, in my opinion. Big East isn't going to have much appear for very long.
  22. I agree. Maybe Mac should hire some of the posters to steal those 4* and 5*s away from UT, OU, etc. On the other hand, it is Mac's job to find those 3*'s who are underrated and the others who are real sleepers. Lets hope he is able to do that this year in recruiting.
  23. I think people just need to chill. Anyone who thought that Mac or another coach could turn around this program in two years, given the shape it was in, is/was delusional. Maybe we could have had someone come in sign 20 JC'', have a quick turn around and then get out of Dodge (no pun intended) before it all fell apart again, but I do not think that most of us wanted that. Do I like losing? No, I have suffered through more than my share. But, I believe that success is usually build one brick at a time.
  24. you may be right, but we will need more than one if this season in college football teaches anything
