SB at Charlotte (5/3-5/24)

Recommended Posts

It all comes down to this. The softball ladies are a game behind FAU and Charlotte for first place in the conference. The Mean Green already own the tiebreaker 2-1 with FAU, so winning two of three in Charlotte this weekend would also be huge in that it would give the ladies the tiebreaker over both teams in case there is a three-way tie at 19-8. The biggest reason to try to take two of three in Charlotte is that second and third place in the conference is the difference between having to win just two games in two days to make it to the NCAA Tournament, or four games in four days.

We can't finish lower than third. Fourth place Tulsa is 3 games behind UNT, and we swept them earlier in the year. Tulsa plays at FAU this weekend.

Charlotte will be a tough out. Last year by way of playing one fewer conference game due to a rainout, they finished with one loss fewer than UNT and won the regular season title. However, we took two of three at home to the 49ers before beating them again in the conference tournament. They still made it to the NCAA Tournament as an at-large.

This year, Charlotte has taken 2 of 3 at USF and vs. Wichita State while sweeping the likes of UAB and Tulsa, and are on an 11-game win streak overall.

Standings going into the final weekend. The conference tournament is May 8-11 in Wichita. If we make it to the final on Saturday at 11 am, be prepared to drop everything and head up to Kansas to support!

Be on the look out for changes to the schedule of games for this series.  The forecast for tomorrow and Sunday in Charlotte isn't conducive to outdoor activity.

1-1 going to the 6th.  Skylar pitching a great game.

Even though they listed the start time as 4.....that must have been 4 Eastern time.

Go Mean Green!!!

So hard to watch this team crumble when everything's on the line. It's happened all season. No excuse for losing this game. Sure the bats were cold, but this is completely on our pitching staff. DeLong has to find us better pitchers with more mental toughness for next season. I can't believe a team this senior heavy that has done what they've done, can't play better than what we are watching.

I'll go ahead and say it now. this team (especially the pitching staff) isn't mentally tough enough to win the conference tournament.

I agree a disappointing season, but the hitting is a much bigger problem than the pitching.

The bats have definitely been the biggest disappointment the past two years. The run support simply hasn't been there enough. Now, I'm still optimistic for the tournament. Last year we won three straight to make it to the title game. But that double bye would have been nice especially if we only have two reliable pitchers right now.
