UNT MEAN GREEN FOOTBALL POSTGAME NOTES (Oct. 21, 2023)

 At No. 23 Tulane (L, 28-35)

 

- The 28 points North Texas scored Saturday at No. 23 Tulane is the second-most points scored on the nationally ranked Green Wave this season. Only Ole Miss has scored more on Tulane this season.

- The 28 points UNT scored Saturday at No. 23 Tulane is tied for the points the Mean Green have scored against a nationally ranked team on the road in program history.

- UNT quarterback Chandler Rogers threw for 343 yards on Saturday at No. 23 Tulane. It’s the fourth time he’s thrown for over 300 yards this season. The 343 yards is a season-high for the junior.

- Quarterback Chandler Rogers’ 343 passing yards Saturday at No. 23 Tulane is the most passing yards by a Mean Green quarterback against a top 25 team in over 23 years.

- Quarterback Chandler Rogers finished Saturday with 35 completions at No. 23 Tulane, which is a single-game career high for the junior from Mansfield, Texas. It’s the most completions by a UNT quarterback since Mason Fine had 35 versus Houston in 2019.

- Mean Green quarterback Chandler Rogers attempted a career-high 51 passes on Saturday at No. 23 Tulane. That’s a single-game career high for Rogers.

- Quarterback Chandler Rogers threw two touchdowns on Saturday at No. 23 Tulane. It’s the fifth time in the last six games Rogers has thrown for multiple touchdowns. He now has 38 passing touchdowns in his career.

- Chandler Rogers attempted a career-high 51 passes Saturday at No. 23 Tulane and had no interceptions. He’s now thrown 216 consecutive pass attempts without an interception. After Saturday, Rogers has now thrown 14 touchdowns and has just one interception on the year.

- In addition to his 343 passing yards Saturday, quarterback Chandler Rogers also led UNT in rushing yards at No. 23 Tulane with 34. He broke off a 14-yard rush in the first quarter.

- Nine different UNT players caught a pass Saturday at No. 23 Tulane. Eight of the nine caught multiple passes.

- Wide receiver Roderic Burns had 54 receiving yards on Saturday at No. 23 Tulane. The former walk-on is now just 13 receiving yards shy of breaking the 2,000-yard mark, which only nine Mean Green receivers have ever accomplished.

- UNT’s Landon Sides caught his first career touchdown pass Saturday at No. 23 Tulane. The touchdown and the ensuing PAT tied the game in the fourth quarter.

- Safety Phil Hill picked off his second pass of the season.

- North Texas scored a touchdown on an 88-yard drive to open the second half. It was UNT’s sixth scoring drive this season of 80+ yards.

- Ja’Mori Maclin grabbed his ninth touchdown of the year and his 11th touchdown of his career. Maclin has now had a touchdown catch in seven straight games. It’s the second-longest streak in UNT history. Jaelon Darden went 10 straight games with a touchdown grab from 2019-20. Maclin led UNT on Saturday at No. 23 Tulane with eight catches for 71 yards.

- Receiver Blair Conwright caught a UNT career-high 70 yards on Saturday at No. 23 Tulane. The TCU transfer’s all-time career-high is 74 yards versus Iowa State in 2020. Prior to Saturday Conwright’s UNT career-high was 29 at FIU this season.

-Ayo Adeyi had an 18-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter. It was his fourth touchdown of the year and 14th over his career.

-UNT on Saturday recovered its first onside kick since 2016. They had previously failed on its last two onside kick attempts.

- Running back Oscar Adaway III had his third rushing touchdown of the year, which was his 11th of his career. He finished Saturday with 15 rushing yards.

- Cornerback Ridge Texada broke up his 24th career pass, which moved him into seventh in program history.

- UNT linebacker Jordan Brown led the Mean Green in tackles on Saturday at No. 23 Tulane with a career-high 15. He had eight solo tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss.

- North Texas was shutout in the first quarter for the first time this season.

- UNT was held without a point in the first half for the first time in 30 games. They were last shutout in the first half in 2021 versus UAB.

- After the result, UNT moves to 3-4 on the year and 1-2 in conference. First-year Mean Green head coach Eric Morris’ career NCAA record moves to 27-22 (.551) after Saturday’s result. Morris was FCS’ Incarnate Word’s head coach from 2018-2021.

- North Texas captains were Stone Earle, JP Hadley, Mazin Richards, Logan Wilson and Febechi Nwaiwu.

Rodgers' TD-INT ratio is 14-1 ,which is a ratio we have not seen since Scott Hall.  It's even better than Hall's.  And this is a scheme that will afford him twice the yards and attempts.

Rodgers legacy will explode the day he gets his first big win.  Until then, he is already laying a great foundation.

His demeanor/composure is amazing. The dude never seems rattled. Never gets too high or too low. Just a cool customer. He’s been impressive. Glad he wears the green.
