  1. So the Alumni Pavilion is going to be open this year. For those that don't know, this is that separate building outside the gates of Apogee Stadium where before Mean Green Football games you often hear live music, see people eating free food, and drinking from the cash bar while watching other football games on the multiple TVs. UNT Alumni Association members get in free. That's not the only benefit to being an Alumni Association member. You also get exclusive discounts at up to 300,000 retailers as well as discounts at the store at Apogee Stadium. All that and an annual membership is only 40 bucks! If you do the math and the only thing you use it for is for the meals at the Alumni Pavilion, that's only $6 and change per meal...all you care to eat! Why am I sharing this? We have a Join in June campaign going on right now. We have a friendly competition going on between the different chapters. If this info was valuable to you and you decide to join this month, I just ask that you please enter that you were referred by the Collin County chapter. Here is the link: https://untalumni.com/jij And heck, by joining this month you'll even get a packet of wildflower seeds to grow along side your Mean Green spirit.

  2. I think it would be fun to show out of town games on a big screen TV at the Alumni Center.

  4. I can hear all 7 fans in Rice Stadium screaming for joy.

  5. I watched him play in the game against Penn State, and thought he looked good. He definitely has talent, but has yet to put it all together as a QB. Regardless, he has ability to change games somewhere on the field, so it's a good pickup for Rice. And a better Rice makes for a better C-USA, which is good for us.

  6. You mean, someone transferred TO Rice???

  7. Well we are certainly spending plenty of money, now it is time for a good ROI.

  9. The idiots at the NCAA always knew this would happen .... but then there was a problem They thought it would be P5 programs grabbing the top players from G5 and FCS and they were OK with that. Then something else happened; P5 programs are poaching other 55 programs. There are programs who have full time staff dedicated to looking for transfers (any way they can). They are reaching out to players and saying we will start you! Coaches are feeling the pressure to try and play new players so they don't look elsewhere and also having to worry about upperclassmen who in the past would stay for depth when a new "star" would come in, but now look elsewhere.

  10. The Ulnaers win is incredible. Out of nowhere. To being in position to grab a European tour card. Just needs to play solid the rest of the challenge tour season.

  13. NCAA bureaucrats in Indianapolis have opened up this can of worms that could lead to (OMG)😱Death Penalties? I guess the rule-makers were just bored at the NCAA headquarters in Indianapolis? "You want people in our sport to be ethical enough where they don't fall prey to that," Dykes said, "but ... you got to win and you got a high-pressure job and you have all these things and then all of a sudden, you look up and you go, 'Oh, they didn't punish anybody, and they're not going to punish me. So why not?” (Sonny Dykes) •••So, uh, who was that RB we lost to slick SMU? Remember his (obviously) SMU-coached comments when he left? I do. 🤢 https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/31477534/tampering-arrived-college-football-looks-nba-free-agency ✳️🦅✳️

  17. I don't see it at all. "Destination tourist city" - my impression: it's a Longhorn market already. Any attempt to "move in" will have to include an effort to diminish UT's presence. "Hosts an annual bowl game". Literally any city with a football field can host a bowl. Maybe there is a desire to invade SA and take an existing bowl slot, but i'm skeptical. It appears to be a lot easier to just create a new bowl game.

  18. UNM and NM St? Hell no. It shouldn't take much convincing to get UAB and Southern Miss to join that conference and they're light years ahead of the New Mexico schools.

  19. I agree completely. UTSA has more advantages than any school in the three lower G5’s. That they haven’t taken advantage of that completely is actually pretty lucky for the rest of us. If they ever get really good and ranked, the AAC and the MWC could easily consider them, especially with no one to block them because of sharing a TV market.

  20. Update: Ulnaers won this weeks challenge tour by 5 shots. This netted 32k euros ( a little under 40k dollar). That should get him an immediate upgrade so he can play at least on that tour this year. Cazaubon finished 10th on the PGA Latinoamerica this week. That didn't really move the needle much.

  22. All three commits for 2022 have held at least one P5 offer. Definitely has become the norm here. Hope this is the first season of many where that’s the level of talent we are putting on the field.

  23. Maybe it's time instead of trying to switch conferences constantly we just focus on being the best program we can be

  28. i think the playing of the anthem before every sporting even is old and antiquated, just like saying the pledge to the usa and texas is every day at school. the kids just stand there, people in the stadium just stand there, still walking/talking and doing whatever. it will never be a 100% thing, so i don't see the point in doing it anymore....maybe championship games/bowl games....make it special, not something that is just done because it's always been done.

  30. I see a city that is less than two hours away from Austin, and the local SWC-lovers have not had to share media space with any hometown D-1 university up until less-than 15 years ago when UTSA athletics came into being. That is nothing like the rest of the state. You could be right! But I haven't seen anything from the AACs/MWCs of the world that says "hey, let's get a UT-Satellite campus!" It wouldn't surprise me to know there is some politic-ing going on too, to keep the "other" UTs from getting too big.

  33. https://collegefootballnews.com/2021/06/old-dominion-college-football-preview-2021 It’s not like ODU is playing in the SEC West. There’s only one game against a Power Five program – at Wake Forest – and they miss UAB, UTSA and North Texas in Conference USA play. There aren’t any sure wins besides Hampton, but there should be just enough talent in place to somehow push through for a few upsets along the way.

  39. It seems like many- not all- of you are seemingly willing to embrace UNT’s role as a “stepping stone” to high P5 opportunities. I would like to point to Jaelon as an example that you can reach your NFL caliber goals here at North Texas.

  40. I posted the stat previously but of Deonte Simpson’s 517 receiving yards, the number of those that came from Aune was around 453 yards. Simpson is the Z receiver which means he is the outside receiver on the far side of the field (if the ball is on the left hash, Simpson will be lined up along the right sideline). The coaches did not trust Bean throwing this far across the field, but they did with Aune. Simpson had 360 receiving yards in the 4 games where Aune took the majority of the snaps (SMU, USM, Charlotte, UTEP). That’s over a 1,000 yards pace for a 12 game season. Whether it is Aune or Ruder, having a QB with the arm strength to make throws all over the field is really going to make us tough to defend. The playbook is going to be wide open for either of them, just a matter of who can execute more consistently.

  42. I never said anyone was wrong. I personally couldn't care less whether the anthem is played or not. I pay just as much attention to it as nearly everyone else.

  43. This is where I'm at on the issue. I think a good national anthem really adds to the spectacle/pageantry of live sporting events. So playing it every night at NBA, NHL, and MLB games really waters down the affect. If it were up to me I'd cut it back to the playoffs and maybe Saturday night regular season games.

  44. The anthem issue aside (I do not agree with not playing it), Cuban is a great owner. He's willing to spend money, tries to bring the best to Dallas every offseason, and he stands up for his players and team even if he continually gets fined by the league. My only issue is I think we should be done with Carlisle. He has done nothing since 2011 and now it seems that more often than not, our losses come from his horrible match-ups and squad rotation. Cuban seems loyal to a fault with Carlisle, which is a knock on him.

  45. This thread will probably end up getting closed, but I’ll throw out my hot sports opinion before the lock. I’ve said for a few years now that the anthem should be played while the teams are still in the locker room. Not that it’s an original opinion, but it’s one with which I agree.
