  3. You’ll love the ballpark. It’s gorgeous. Also, California Memorial Stadium is in one of the prettiest settings in all of college football. Make sure to check out the view of the bay and Golden Gate Bridge from the top of the the east rim. Also, Top Dog is a must. Best hot dogs ever and an iconic Berkeley institution.

  5. In sports many top athletes developed premature gloat. Sometimes I worry about my favorite college football team doing the same. But look at what MF sez....(paraphrasing)....every play may be my last....just gotta soak it in. I don't worry about MF.

  9. I was working in Abilene this week and some of the folks I was dealing with are big ACU football supporters. Evidently, the university is making a BIG push to get as many of their people to the game in Denton as possible. One person was telling me their alumni association is planning a large tailgate beforehand and some social activities Friday night. I kept hearing about how their running game is going to give us all kinds of problems and they are expecting a surprise win. I just told them they are probably going to get their butt handed to them but to have a nice day anyway. GMG

  11. https://saturdayblitz.com/2019/07/17/north-texas-football-2019-preview-predictions/ I have North Texas going 10-2 during the regular season with a trip to the CUSA Title game. With Fine going into his senior year, and head coach Seth Littrell going into what could be his last year before a Power 5 school plucks him away, this is UNT’s best shot to win the conference.

  12. As a resident of the greater Austin area, I can tell that you don’t listen to local sports radio and how bad they discount G5’s here. The horns have had several close calls including a 7point squeaker against 3-9 “ a slut spelled backwards” just last year. Skip and the olineman make it seems as though they’ve already laid down and lost. Very Dickey-esque. Personally, I hope LaTech kicks the shit out of them because they are looking ahead to LSU.

  15. The entire issue should not even be an issue. We were all taught how to treat one another. We are all here together, like it or not. We are either going to make things work or we will not. I choose to believe that we will come together and solve our problems. The divisiveness and hate that runs through these and other comments are sad. We are all human beings and made in God's image, if you are a believer, and we are called to Love thy neighbor as thyself. We may have differences but the things we have in common are much more than the things that divide us, yet we dwell on the divisions. We have no leadership in Washington and what we do have is a disgrace. I am an American and I want what is best for ALL Americans, not the rich, not the privilege, not corporations but ALL Americans, you included..............

  17. I don't think that's what you meant at all, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt--which is something you seem unwilling to do for me. But really--who made you arbiter of the degree of intensity of disagreement with the actions, words, and deeds of elected leaders anyway? We still live in a free country don't we? It's still not quite state controlled and there's not a loyalty requirement yet is there? I don't have to hang anyone's picture in my home, do I? Do you not see the irony in what you're saying in your first paragraph? Scary, man! Look, my point was that we have a great system that allows folks a limited time in office. We have a government system where there are checks and balances on knuckleheads and their actions. I'm not going to get worked up over someone who has done and said the same things to varying degrees for decades. It's a fool's errand. Nobody here has to prove anything to you, and frankly, your suggestions of harbored "tacet" views are offensive and unwarranted. Regarding your second statement above: Thank you. Neither do I. I've already addressed your third paragraph. Lastly, I do like sparring with you guys from time to time, but don't take anything I say personally. If you do, I'll be in section 211 in case you want to try and whup mah ass. Hang on...😂

  24. As for the future, the Roadrunners have games lined up against the University of Texas. Starting in 2022, the Roadrunners will play the Longhorns every other season in Austin, Texas. This matchup is highly anticipated and is expected to soon be a rival for the small San Antonio school. Speaking to the media for the first time since UTSA announced a five-game series against Texas, Roadrunners coach Frank Wilson called the games “tremendously significant.” UTSA will travel to Austin to face Texas in 2022, 2024, 2026, 2028 and 2030. “Our desire was to be the best we can be and maximize our potential,” Wilson said. “The only way we can do that is to play people like that.” read more: https://lastwordoncollegefootball.com/2019/06/19/utsas-increasing-schedule-strength/ https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.expressnews.com/sports/college_sports/utsa/amp/North-Texas-the-favorite-in-balanced-Conference-14104114.php

  25. Found more info on the NCAA financial reporting at this site using a google search. Pretty interesting. https://ncaaorg.s3.amazonaws.com/ncaa/finance/2019NCAAFIN_AUP-FRS-FAQs.pdf Basically, donations are only counted if they are spent that fiscal year so I assume the money received for the indoor, etc. won't be recorded until it is actually spent. I'm also assuming it isn't "received" by the athletic department until it is budgeted and spent. Until then it probably belongs to the UNT Foundation or some University holding fund. Q: Net fund raising revenues are not spent for current year athletic expenses and are retained for future years. When do you record the revenue? A: Funds received by the athletic department should be recorded in the year they are received and used by the athletic department. Do not report contributions to be used in other reporting years. Q: Contributions - Are premium seating contributions to be reported as sport specific or general contributions? Is there any reason for premium seating revenue to be separated for institutional comparison purposes? A: The face value of the ticket should be reported to Ticket Sales category (Category 1), while any premium amounts over the face value should be reported to Contributions (Category 8 (to the specific sport in both categories if possible). Q: Please clarify the issues surrounding pledges, contributions, and routing of such through a foundation. A: Pledges (a promise to contribute money or assets) are not to be reported into the system. Only when contributions are actually received in the form of cash or assets should they be reported in the year they were received and spent. If a contribution (in whole or in part) is made to a foundation specifically for athletics, then the portion allocated to athletics should be reported as contribution revenue in the year it was received and used. Do not report: Contributions to be used in other reporting years. If, however, a general contribution has been made to a foundation without knowing how much will be allocated to athletics, then no reporting as contribution revenue should be made until that determination is made. Basically, there should be transparency between any foundation revenue and expense that is athletically related. If it is athletically related, it should also be reported and included with revenues and expenses reported on behalf of the athletics department

  27. Here's the VERY simple Cliff notes of getting more donors- Years 1-3 You win and it rallies the people who are there thick and thin and they bump up their donations or maybe it's easier to get more money out of the few big donors. But overall it's a percentage change, not a cultural change. We've been bad or up and down so long that it probably feels like a lucky, passing phase to casual fans. Years 3-5 Winning becomes more of an expectation and the excitement grows however this is about when you lose your coach due to success. Also the CONCEPT of giving money to the athletic department just starts to enter people's brains who are new to the scene because of the success. People want to be part of the success so while the culture isn't there, it's percolating. Also, if you are a smart AD you make a good replacement coaching hire but also use the opportunity to tell wealthy people associated with the program "If you want this to continue, now's the time to step up." Hopefully five years of success has dulled the skepticism. Years 5-7 The success starts to pay off and the begging, kicking, knocking down doors, and begging some more for donations decreases from 95% of the time to about 80% of the time. Seriously, I doubt there's a G5 AD out there who doesn't hustle constantly for donations. But by now the concept of being a donor to the program has gone from "Nah, not for me" to "Yeah, I'm a member of the MGSF" and selling bigger projects to more successful donors is less of a tough sell. I went to a Boise State game last year and it's not like their tailgate scene or game presentation is any better than ours but EVERYTHING IS BOISE STATE. It's the place to be. People are bought in. We sat next to two older guys in the upper deck that couldn't fathom not going to a home game. It's just what they do. So yeah, it's going to take a while longer and some more good decisions along the way. I'm not even sure if a single event can speed up the process but I'd sure like to kick the hell out of A$M next year and test the theory.

  32. I have to second this. Desmond Tutu and Martin Luther King have numerous statements about how the people who sit inactively are almost as bad as those who actively take part. Standing on the sidelines of this while friends and loved ones could be targeted next is like being a blocker and letting defenders walk past you to hit the QB. That LB might not be looking for you, but you're just as much to blame for that sack if you don't make that block.

  33. Biden wins 2020 in a landslide if he's the nominee. Although we're a silent bunch, I believe there is a VAST majority of people who are disillusioned with today's extremely polarized political landscape. Biden is about as close to the center as you can get out of everyone running. However, if Democrats continue to torpedo Biden at every chance they get, and America is presented with any one of the other nominees that are much further left, it's going to be a very tight race & we could certainly see 4 more years of Trump simply due to the economy.

  38. As far as I can tell there are few standards in athletic reporting, but it is non-profit accounting. Allocations back and forth between the athletic department and general fund make manipulation of the results very easy. The shorthand version of above: Donations are recorded in the period when the cash is received and expenditures when payments are made.

  42. This is where the 1-AA debacle for 12 years just killed us. We would have such a higher rate of giving today from the graduates of the 80s and early 90s that are at points in their lives where they start making good money. Instead, we literally nuked two decades of fans because of this. Things have improved greatly here, but the reality is that our lack of support for athletics here for so long insured we will always be stuck in a non-power status. It’s just so sad that athletics got treated that poorly for so long by the BOR and administration, the faculty, student body, and local citizenry.

  44. I expect a much closer game than most do. As with most games, the difference will be who wins the turnover margin. I’d be surprised if Cal wins by more than 7-10 points and wouldn’t be too shocked to lose a tight one. Although, if we do lose to y’all it’s gonna be a long season for us in a stacked Pac 12 North. No offense.
