  1. Just proves that sometimes losers do win. Which should give hope to all NT fans.

  2. First the guy wins the first dance off in Apogee with a prize of a trip to Bermuda, wherein they've since reduced it to like a buy twelve, get one half price coupon at What-a-burger. Now he wins the Seth Littrell signed football in this week's season ticket renewal drawing thing. What a jerk. I spit half-chewed cheesecake crumbs in his general direction. ^^^^Addressing the important things in the off-season^^^^

  3. Too much ice, not enough ice. Popcorn too salty, not enough salt. Cheerleaders too pretty, don't show enough, show too much. We didn't win by enough points, we won by too many points. Even if a certain person comes back, they chose not to be happy anyway.

  8. Dale Hanson has been pushing the Ponies and Jankovich all year. At the same time he covered the McCasland hire as if it was an obligation and was totally dismissive, then he whined about Middle Tennessee busting his bracket and seemed shocked. Just one more reason for me to be happy about this loss.

  9. I only watch the first round closely, because I love the Cinderellas. So far, this is the most upset-free tournament I can ever remember. MT was the only semi-major upset. And, that is debatable as to even being an upset. The games have been pretty close and interesting though.

  19. I think he's on to something. I also see why this would be hard to popularize. Every trend in offense and defense started with someone being told it would never work and they would get killed trying to do that. There is what's common practice and what's on the fringe. This is probably as far as you could push the boundary. He ended Highland Parks 18-year home win-streak in 2015. He is the real deal. This isn't just some thing he's trying on a whim, it's research and data backed. It's a money-ball-like approach to football. Of course as more teams adapted the data would change, but he's opening to incorporating new ideas and changing as the information does. I'm not saying I want UNT to be the forerunner, but I wouldn't be so closed off to say this would never work. People probably said it was stupid and never work in high school. He's doing the research not just rolling the dice here.

  20. I think we should focus on just winning in league play for a year before focusing too much on OOC scheduling.

  21. Personally my expectations for the 2017-2018 season probably isn't as high as it's been at other times. All three teams are still rebuilding from some black pits they were in. However, my long term expectations are much higher than they have ever been. I believe we now have the leadersip in place to do things the right way and give our coaches and players every opportunity to succeed. Smatresk and Baker have my full confidence that they will keep making good decisions. I also had very high expectations when the new stadium opened with Mac at the helm. Unfortunately, Mac and the AD office couldn't measure up to the task. Speaking of which ... normally as time passes you tend the think more fondly of those who have moved on and remember the good times. The exact opposite is happening to me when I think of RV. The longer he's away the more awful his tenure looks. That report which came out last year showed exactly how inept the AD office was. Then the more I see Baker at work the more awful RV performance appears in comparison. Thank goodness Smatresk came along to kick him out of this school.

  27. George Dunham and Todd Dodge talked about this guy on the coach's show several years ago. It's an interesting concept, but I'm skeptical that it is a winning concept at the FBS football level.

  32. We just started having WBB (11-13 in their first year), but when Hayden Fry was hired and subsequently Bill Blakeley(75). There were pretty high expectations around. Especially when the football team had completed a 10 win season in 77 and the basketball team followed that up with a 22 win season in 77-78, Of course with no bowl invites for the football team, and no invites to the BB team to either tournament, despite 22-21 & 22 win seasons, those high hopes got dashed pretty quickly.

  33. I do believe teams punt too often and don't onside kick enough. That said, if everyone would do it, the data for the analytics would change, because the coaches and players on the teams on defense on 4th down and receiving the kick off would adapt. For example, it has been shown that coaches don't onside kickoff enough in the first half (when the opponents don't expect it), but that onside kicking does not have great percentages at the end of the game. Also FBS players will not allow you to recover 25%. Also not punting and onside kicking it all the time is also a message about your defense (or at least it should be): If you have a dominant defense that can hold your opponent from advancing often enough, then the only thing you want to avoid is giving the opponent the ball in the red zone. However, if you are Texas Tech, (I.e. no defense but good on offense), why would you ever punt, if your defense can't stop the opponent, no matter if he gets the ball at his own 20 or at your 20. But I do have to say, that I have been wondering why there aren't more funky formations out there, and why few coaches have tried too run rugby style plays (as in with laterals etc).

  34. Yeah, I have Butler beating MTSU and UNC. That's gonna be a stiff test for the Blue Raiders.

  35. Kermit Davis is example A of why you don't give up on a coach after some mediocre times. About 5-7 years ago the MTSU fanbase was really down on his ability to "go to the next level" and several of us made some disparaging comments about his coaching with respect to others in the Belt (including JJ).
