  1. I went to the student union, but found that they're only giving out tickets from 10-1, and I only have night classes! Now I'll have to WALK to the stadium ticket window, carrying the extra weight of my student ID card to the game! And I'll have to make that arduous journey two hours early! How can the AD be so insensitive to us students who invest so much of our hard borrowed money into this program via our duly elected student fee? I'm outraged! I haven't even received a personal letter from Coach McCarney this week! How else am I supposed to know how to express my school spirit without personal communication from the staff? I pay virtually NOTHING into this program! I demand to be heard!

  2. Indiana is terrible. They are 1-6 after firing their coach who went 5-7 last year. They weren't good last year. On the way to 5-7 they beat a 4-8 ArkSt team by 2 and and a 2-10 WKU by 17. My point was UNT had less to sell to recruits during past recruiting classes other than the most recent, because UNT had a harder sell to convice recruits that the staff in place was capable of winning. You played Clemson even for a half in the opener last year. Clemson finished 6-7 last year, sure they are ranked this year, but they didn't sniff the polls last year and won by 25. ASU played its open against eventual national champion Auburn as close as Arkansas, Ole Miss and South Carolina did and it was a two score game halfway through the third quarter. Auburn won by 26. We lost our openers by an average of 25.5 points but I think a 26 point loss to an eventual 14-0 team carries more style points than a 25 point loss to an eventual 6-7 team. Playing the ifs and buts game. Last year Arkansas State beat ULM UNT, FAU, and MTSU (televised rout). For the BUT games: @Indiana determined on missed FG on next to last possession. @Louisiana Aplin picked off at ULL 17 on drive that could have tied or given ASU the win. @Troy goes 67 yards in 28 seconds to take the lead and the win with 17 seconds left. Western KY the Red Wolves leading by 7 with 45 seconds left face 4th down at the WKU 49. Bad snap to the punter gives WKU the ball at the ASU 22. They tie, ASU scores on first play of OT, WKU answers and runs trick play for 2 and the win. Adding intrigue, players had discussed the week before the game that a loss ends Roberts time at ASU. @FIU Hilton scores in final two minutes and FIU converts two-point conversion for 7 point win Arkansas State was that close to going 9-3 last year. UNT had a unique situation last year. You got to replace a coach the players apparently had lost confidence in, they got a semi-fresh start and lost at home by 8 to a team ASU lost to on the road by 7 without a semi-fresh start. You beat MTSU by 6 in Smurfland we beat them the week before by 26 in Jonesboro. Your semi-fresh start got you a 12 point loss in Monroe, ASU beat them by 14 in Jonesboro with the same-old-same-old. ASU returned its record-breaking QB and three receivers who had five TD receptions and added Josh Jarboe at receiver. ASU returned 10 starters on defense. ASU placed 4 on the Phil Steele pre-season Sun Belt first team, UNT placed 2 if you count the kicker. ASU 5 on the second team, UNT 4 if you count second team kick returner. ASU 5 on his 3rd team, UNT 3. The Sun Belt named five ASU players all-conference compared to two for UNT. Phil Steele and the league coaches didn't agree with the assertion that UNT handed McCarney enough talent to be immediately competitive. One last point. Sure as you say ASU and ULL's players "were all recruited at the SUN BELT LEVEL." But ASU recruited two classes to that level coming off 6-6 seasons. ULL recruited three classes to that level coming off 6-6 seasons. UNT recruited 5 classes coming off nothing better than three wins. Surely you think that makes a difference in generating recruit interest.

  3. Like I said, I did a 5 minute check. FFR you would still find something to bitch about if NT contacted you to schedule game times and they gave you a suite for every game.

  4. Can you guys try and occupy Apogee about 4:00 pm this Saturday? That would work out for everybody... Your protest chants should be "North.....Texas".... There are some others like yelling when u-la-mon has the ball and it is 3rd or 4th down... stuff like that will really show the athletic department what's what.

  5. This is an outrage and an obvious case of insensitivity. I think the students should hold an Occupy Apogee protest.

  6. I just did a 5 minute check of other programs in our region and there posted game times. Do these fan bases bitch as much as we do about game times? From past experience with being a season ticket holder at Arkansas and LSU (because of work relocation) game times are announced a week in advance. SMU: 11/12 TBA 11/19 TBA 11/26 TBA Baylor: 11/5 TBA (Homecoming) 11/12 TBA 11/19 TBA 12/3 TBA Texas: 11/5 TBA 11/12 TBA 11/19 TBA 12/3 TBA LSU: 11/5 TBA 11/12 TBA (Homecoming) 11/19 TBA UL Monroe: 11/12 TBA 11/19 TBA 12/3 TBA Ark. ST: 11/12 TBA 11/19 TBA We should thank our AD department for trying to give us the ability to plan ahead. Time change for only 1 week in 12 (or 6) is pretty good by my account.

  8. You can't play that game since it's not the same team, which was ArkSt.'s point But since your playing anyway, i'd argue that if we had this coaching staff with last years team, We would have won at least two of the close games and had a chance at a bowl game last year because we would have been bowl eligible. Problem with you argument is that this isn't last years team. We don't have a QB, any WR's making plays, or an offensive line doing much, so we can't score points. The defense has already made more plays than all of last year, but they aren't good enough yet to overcome a near anemic offense. It's not for lack of trying, we're just not there yet. Could be because we're young on offense, or because no depth, or barbecue not the right players yet, or a combo of all (my opinion) but the facts are we don't really score. If we had hired Nick Saban, I don't think we'd have done any better than we have so far. It sucks because it is frustrating to think we still have a long way to go, but the good news is you can actually see improvement something you never ever saw with Dodge's teams.

  16. Yeah, I heard that TTG's reps in practice were terrible, and since Harry is best friends with Quoner's parents, don't be surprised to see Quoner come in when Evan says "um" one time too many. Even when TTG has performed well in Peach Basket time.

  21. Let's not paint with the "everyone who makes jokes doesn't give" or "class warfare" brushes right now. I know plenty of jerks and cool people who donate at every level and I fit in somewhere that is less than I wish I could give, but more than my wife thinks I should. I have no plans to reveal mine or any other known donation amounts on the interwebs (unless they finally decide to erect my Quoner bidet in the locker room), nor do I want to know what anyone else does. Maybe I am just rare or have relative youth on my side or something, but all I have felt since donating is a bigger connection to everything around me and a greater appreciation for what I thinks ahead. I've felt no desire to have a greater say in anything, but maybe I need to start waving my genitals towards Bonnie Brae more. I think I've shown I'm not afraid to turn on a coach (giggle) when it's possibly warranted, but I really don't see how a coach who has already doubled our last coaches first year win total is already failing -- especially in light of what ArkState posted.

  22. At one point in recent memory, most NFL and FBS stadiums would show replays of all the most recent plays on the field, including the controversial plays that the refs got wrong. Same thing in MLB. It seems, though, that there's been a trend in both the professional and collegiate ranks to not show the most recent plays on jumbotrons/video walls/whatnot, particularly when it comes to controversial plays. You can see the the cultural impact that showing those plays has on folks when you see 3/4 of the crowd instinctively turn their heads in unison to look at the replay on a controversial play, except these days we don't seem to be getting those replays like we used to. I've seen commentary from university officials (not ours) and league officials (not ours) that seems to indicate that this is being done for reasons like "not showing up the officials". When I hear statements like this, I automatically think "so you don't want to give the fans in the stands the full experience they deserve because you're more interested in covering up someone's mistakes?" I would really like to see UNT lead the way in bringing replays back to their rightful place in the stadium. It's ridiculous to not show all the recent plays; showing only some and not others smacks of covering up the controversial ones. Show all of them. It's broken that I can sit at home paying nothing and see replays, controversial and routine, yet if I pay money to go to the game I am denied that same opportunity. The fans paying to come to the game should get every bit as much of the experience as the fan sitting at home. In my best Russell Crow voice...Replay now. Replay tomorrow. Replay forever!

  31. Wow! Six games into the man's tenure as Head Football Coach and the negativity implied in your statement just flat blows me away! What exactly is it that you want as immediate proof? Regardless, you should understand that any so-called proof probably IS NOT coming this season. Are you implying that without proof-in-evidence this season that this coach is a bust? Sorry - I just don't understand (and I bet I am not alone here) what it is you are looking for at this point in Dan McCarney's first year as the Head Football Coach at this institution. I have read other postings where you have blamed Todd Dodge for the state of the program. If that is true, you are now holding Dan McCarney responsible for taking what you feel are Todd Dodge's all-encompassing mistakes and immediately turning this program around? I am not necessarily trying to be critical of what you have said, I just don't understand what you are trying to say. But regardless, your continuing negativity is mystifying to this old alum.

  32. I don't think it is reasonable to expect UNT to hire a new coach and get the results that Arkansas State and Louisiana are getting with their new hires. A red-shirt senior on any of the three teams signed in the Spring of 2007 was influenced by the 2006 season that finished a couple months earlier. Every other recruit was influenced by the seasons after 2006. UNT 2006-2010 record 11-49. Best season 3-9 (twice), worst season 1-11. Most significant win(s) SMU in 2006. Arkansas State 2006-2010 record 25-35. Best season 6-6 (twice) worst season 4-8 (twice). Record vs. UNT in span 5-0. Most significant win(s) SMU in 2007, Texas A&M 2008 Memphis 2006 & 2007 Louisiana 2006-2010 record 24-36. Best season 6-6 (three times) worst record 3-9 (twice). Record vs. UNT in span 4-1. Most significant win(s) Houston in 2006, Kansas State in 2009 Rather unrealistic to expect similar immediate results when UNT went a combined 1-9 the past five seasons against the two and when the BEST season at UNT in that time frame had the same record as the WORST season at UL and was worse the the WORST season at Arkansas State. I was impressed with the McCarney hire but he did not take over the situation that Hudspeth or Freeze took over.

  34. As i've stated before i'm new to the Mean Green world but you folks have no clue how bad things can get. I grew up around the Kansas State program and we flat out sucked prior to hiring the RIGHT guy (If you don't know his name you don't know college footbal). *See Below* He took over a program that had lost 510 games in 93 years of play—easily the most losses of any team in Division I-A at the time. The school had been to only one bowl game (the 1982 Independence Bowl), had not won a conference title since 1934 and had enjoyed four winning seasons in the previous 44 years (including two in the previous 34 years). The program had also gone winless in 27 consecutive games. 1989 1-10-0 1990 5-6-0 1991 7-4-0 1992 5-6-0 1993 9-2-1 Give Coach Mac a chance before even mentioning/thinking/typing that something maybe wrong or not to your liking. Me and my family due to various reasons have invested and turned our full attention to supporting North Texas. I cheer as loud as anyone and support the program in any way I can. Cheer a block, cheer a first down, cheer a dam good punt.. get out there are root for this team and in time if Mac is the RIGHT guy things will be better

  36. Amazing how fast this group...or some...can turn on a new head coach. While the guy told everyone over and over and over again that the "cupboard was bare"...so often in fact that some of us actually got very tired of hearing it...some choose now to forget all that and start comparing him to "other" first year head coach records. Rick may say, "I was just pointing out a fact"...and that's true, but seems to me that there might, just might, be a bigger reason behind the post. Well, that's fair even if there is, and I'll support Rick's right to have such a "reason", but folks, let's not get this thing going into a dumpster because our HC told us exactly what to expect and some chose to simply ignore him and decide that UNT was ready to compete for the SBC crown this season. Congrats to all the HC's who have better records than UNT...good for them and good for their fan bases. It must be nice, but if you expected more than a max of 5 wins this season for the Mean Green you have been drinking much more green kool-aid than I have been accused of drinking. And, I see nopthing...nothing...to be gained here by pointing out every coach that has a better record that Coach mac at this point in the season...first year HC or 20-year HC. Lots of experienced and not so experienced HC's have less than wonderful w/l records at this point in the season...what, about half-way. Let's try to enjoy the season as best we can, support the seniors on this team who have worked hard (and many who should probably be starting for SFA, ACC, etc.)and played their rears off for UNT, it's students and alumni. When the season is over we can all sit back and pontificate about what, if any, progress was noted, what the HC and staff should and should not have done (as if anyone on here really has a clue about that) and who should and should not be back to play for the Mean green next season. We have a homecoming game this Saturday to enjoy. And, it looks now like the weather will be great for the early-start with possible showers later. I believed Coach Mac when he talked about the players he had early on and I believe him now. This is not a one-season turn around project. Let's see where the Mean green is AFTER the season before anyone starts the "Coach Mac" isn't as good as......threads. Or, even threads that seem to want to infer that through comparisons to other 1st year head coaches. Again, not picking on FFR...I get it, and I get where he is coming from. Just stating a "different" view. Get a grip people, cool your jets and let's support this HC and his staff and these players as they look to win more games than UNT has won in any one season in a very long time. That would, be a nice improvement, right?

  37. The "I don't want to be laughed at at work thing" is one of the saddest fan complaints ever. I love North Texas, but if I ever either (1) define myself by how 18-22 year olds play football on scholarship or (2) decide to be sensitive to people teasing me abut how 18-22 year olds play football on scholarship, I'd like someone to beat me senseless with a bag of dils. Also, we've been at the bottom of the Belt for a few years now...so bad news on that whole "passed by" thing...

  39. Just spoke to a former Mean Green player from the Dickey era here at the local McDonald's coffee & "QB" Club and he will be making his first visit to Apogee Stadium with his employer who is also a UNT alum. NOTE: They will be part of the out of town "Homecoming" crowd we usually don't get at other games. I told him about the 4 o'clock kick and he knew nothing about it, he then thanked me for telling him as he will also tell his boss who is going to the game with. He was very excited about coming to Apogee for his first game there. I then showed him some photos of Apogee on my laptop and then he really got excited about coming this Saturday. He could not believe the crowd shot of the Houston game I have as my laptop background photo. I told him it will be the accoustics of Apogee that will be toward the top of his "best thing he likes about Apogee list." Get the word out, North Texas. GMG! PS: I like the earlier time because it gets me home earlier. I have a 2:00 PM Wedding Reception to DJ on Sunday. It surprises me how many Sunday weddings are booked and some booked because many wedding venues are booked a year in advance on Fridays and Saturdays. GMG!

  41. But, wait, this destroys the myth that UNT didn't try to get Harbaugh or Fischer. And, lays it on Harbaugh and Fischer who actually turned UNT down...not the other way around. Oh, what have you done? What are you trying to do here? Good grief, man, what will all the "doesn't the AD ever make a good decision" folks going to do now? Let's see...Coach Mac...good move, thank you very much. Athletic Village...done deal...good move...Apogee Stadium...done deal...good move...Coach Hedlund, Coach Jones, Coach Lama, Coach Aston...OK, I could go on...good moves....gosh, this guy just never makes a good move. 44. Our alleged second team QB should have been given an opportunity to show what he has got, but we still don't really know how good he is because he has barely been allowed to play. Yes we have. Did you already forget? He lead the team down the field against Alabama, one of the best defenses in the nation, in front of 102,000 home fans and put the team in scoring position only to be pulled in favor of Mcnulty. We got Zero points. Something here just doesn't make sense.

  45. really, did he really say that the only reason Osborn did well was because he played against the back ups. i don't think i have ever heard a coach call out the success of a player simply to make sure his decision is not seen as a bad one. I am really starting to doubt this man is the answer. CHICO was teh answer now he is simply having his strings pulled by a coach that is forcing Mcnulty into the starting line up. Hope he learns quick and can do it, because like it or not he will be our starting QB for the next 4 years

  46. Look Denton definitely isn't perfect and there's issues I have with the city but let's not soley blame Denton for bad attendance etc. Do you see our historical track record in athletics? Blaming the city of Denton is a complete copout stance because we know that it starts with our own alumni and students. If they don't come and support then we're probably going to lose the battle either way. That being said it is really tough when you have very little to no relevance in athletics and always field losing football teams. Yeah yeah we've had some good years but on the whole it hasn't ever all clicked at once. Are we on the right path now? Yes I think we are but it will take time because we have had the apothetic and losing culture for so long and its been so bad that it is something that will take time. When that is fixed then you will see the fans coming. I love my school and will support them no matter what generally but I really don't blame other alumni and students for not taking interest. It is what it is....there are other options and things to do. If you have the options to spend your money and one of them is going to a game and seeing your team get their ass handed to them on a weekly basis then more times then not they will opt out for something else to do. As for Denton being the OU headquarters...it is not an insult at all. What difference does it make? This doesn't affect UNT one iota and I just don't get all the hoopla on something so minor. Get over it.

  48. First of all, the fans turned on Dickey before he started winning in conference. In 2001 after an unbelievable loss to ULM, there were For Sale signs in his front yard and RV was ready to fire him until "higher ups" told him otherwise. The next week started the conference winning streak/bowl run, and I don't think DD ever won over all of the fans, but the team's success made him tolerable. We haven't turned on Coach Mac, we just don't understand why he has put McNulty in these situations and why he started over Osborn. His answer to Vito's question was the easy way out. Vito should have kept digging, because Mac's answer is typical "coach speak" that can't be disputed because his practices are closed. I will be driving almost 6 hours to Denton this weekend to watch the FAU game, and if McNulty starts, it will be my last trip for a while.
