  1. AD is finalizing the IPF. 1. It will be 120yd football field 2. The clear ht will not be there for kicking..to $$$ 3. It will go on the second outdoor practice field that is on the backside. 4. A structure will be built to expand the current offices and facilities and the IPF will be connected. The view from the road will be amazing! GMG

  4. So we should be receiving an official UNT fundraising solicitation/document in the mail soon? Explaining, in written form and IPF conceptual drawings, what they are doing and what they will be asking the Alumni base to do. Financially speaking. Wren, for gosh sakes don't send me an email requesting a donation. Make it professional.

  6. Seen some options. It will look insane, imagine you will have a visible of Apogee , the expanded offices and facilities and the IPF as continuous vision. With a practice field in front of the IPF. Something should be announced in the next few weeks is the impression I got!

  7. The school has to agree to let them out of their scholarship and they still have to sit a year (depending on circumstances) when they transfer after a coach leaves (something the coach doesn't have to do). There is nothing that allows them to just walk away without penalty. The school and student agree to "4 years" but the coaches evaluate scholarships every year and a scholarship is a year to year thing in actuality. The coach can cut a player loose any time. If we are going to hold students to these agreements, then the school needs to commit to them for four years and the coach needs to commit to them/the school for their contract as well. When the other two parts of the agreement honor their commitments, I will start to be a little more hard on the players. It sucks that this is where we are, but it is where we are.

  15. The road to LSU goes through Denton. I'm personally surprised to hear of this. If I was an LSU supporter and I heard the Tigers were getting another re-tread from North Texas, and one with a 5 year non-winning record as well, I'd question the judgement of the LSU Athletic Dept and the new head coach. But that's just me. GO MEAN GREEN

  16. What if he had said 'thus far' at the end of his first sentence? With this kid's size and strength I have no doubt that he would get other offers. I took it to mean that if he waited too long that North Texas might not want to take many more linemen in this class. He indicated that everything just felt right so why wait? Sometimes I think that we put too much validity into the number of offers being a test of the recruit's true ability. That's especially true for late bloomers or those that don't have the publicity to make them star quality and an early evaluation by the scouts. Kishaun McClain and Jeffrey Wilson, for example, were never rated by any of the evaluators and I'd say that they turned out very well. I'm not knocking offers and/or ratings but they aren't always the only answer. Of course, you can't have an entire team of under the radar players but at this stage I'm glad that we sometimes dig deeper.

  21. We need some depth who can play right away at CB. Where we don't have to feed incoming freshmen to the wolves, and consequently have a drastic production fall off between the "1's" and "2's" on the depth chart.

  22. Smart takes place of Ahmad Wainwright. I think Lawson decision is still up in air. They need depth whether Lawson stays or not

  23. He reminds me of Kenny Buyers. He doesn't seem (to me anyway) to have blazing speed, but he was wide open over the middle on the long TD pass he caught from Isadore. But the more impressive catch was a 20+ yarder he caught from Fine that was "over-the-shoulder-whilst-sliding-on-his-knees-and-wearing-a-DB-who-had-his-hand-on-the-ball". I met his parents last year. They are really nice people. Lots of similar receivers in Kam Duhon (#27), Elijah McIntyre (#34), Braydon Watson (#39), Dennis Smith (#84) and Deion Griffin (#82).....the fastest of the group. They work a lot on the long ball, both in scrimmages and in their drills. They also work a lot on the corner fade. But it doesn't surprise me since this year seems like the tallest group of receivers I've ever seen here. Rutherford (#2) 6-5 Rico Bussy (#8) 6-2 Jason Pertile (#88) 6-2 Quentin Jackson (#13) 6-3 Jalen Guyton (#9) 6-1......but he looks taller Turner Smiley (#1) 6' Add-in the very talented Kelvin Smith (#87) 6-2, and the becoming talented (not as good as K. Smith but he's gettin' there) Caleb Chumley (#15) 6-5, and our QB's have a lot of tall targets.

  24. The player draft has just been completed. Both Coaches are good with the results and both teams appear to be pretty evenly matched. Andrew's Green team has a couple of extra drafted players to allow for any walk-ups on game day ... We often have one or two...go figure. So here we have: GREEN TEAM - COACH ANDREW Paul Pearson - Chris McDonald - Emmitt Jackson - Ray Cortinez - Cody Colie - GreenDylan - John Hopkins - Ben Gooding - Zach Gooding WHITE TEAM - COACH GMG24 RICO - Rob Morley - THOR - Justin Else - Jacob Gonzalez - Rob McKinney - Vince-Grant Gilbert Just FYI...there are more players than reflected here as some signed up multiple players under one name. So, no one will fall over and die having to play too many minutes! Ha! Thanks to our coaches for participating in this evening's player draft. Thanks to all for participating. See you on April 1st!

  25. Wow. Interesting. So if I'm the coach and a star late-bloomer JC or big-conference kid averaging 40 points and 12 rebounds a game wants to play closer to home and can replace my lackadaisical freshman that barely attends practice, I can just release the other player? But I'm guessing if coaches did that too much, their reputation would suffer and future/current players would be afraid to play for them. As a coach is it almost tempting to save a scholarship until the late stages of recruiting in case a star player looking for more playing time or whatever might become available? Does transferring/releasing players affect graduation rates at all? Sorry for all the questions, it's just that I am totally fascinated by this topic, and I never really knew what the pros/cons were for both the students/coaches.

  28. Yes, with a renovation plus expansion of the offices and football operations building, the logical location of the IPF is in the area of Practice Field "A".

  32. I would imagine they are talking about punting versus kicking (kickoffs and field goals). I believe you need 75' in the clear to punt.

  35. I don't understand this whole hundreds of kids transferring every year. Many of these players are allowed to leave when the school gets another coach. But doesn't the student agree to the school for 4 years? Not just playing for a specific coach? Whatever happened to honoring your commitment?

  36. Could be impressive and beefy OL with Carroll, Newman, and Morse, on top of W-Spoon. But that 600 lb squat would be impressive at NT on Defense

  38. We can what if and go back and forth, but even after a 9-4 season, some were skeptical about extending McCarney because there were questons as to whether it cold be sustained due to his recruiting. Well, it was shown that his weak recruiting and development caught up with him. Maybe he won because he caught everyone at the right time of eligibility and he had the veteran team, while others were rebuilding... Well now Litrell comes in like McCarney did and did better than the previous coach...now all we have to do is add recruiting momentum to the on the field success and we have something. Right? McCarney lost coaches too, so let's get rid of that excuse and he inherited Chico. McCarney thought winning would solve the recruiting problem. Littrell thought the turnaround would too. The change in offense, the culture,...blah, blah, blah...no upgrade in recruiting. Period. "But Littrell is a better coach, so even if he can't recruit, he will coach players up..." that is what we are banking on and he gets an extension and the assistants gets raises. Based mainly off of the 1 win season. When you are judging performance by the worst output, anything will look better. Littrell hasn't proven anything offensively yet. Haven't proved it recruiting, and he will be in the same situation as mccarney and that is looking for JUCOs. UNT gave Littrell an extension and they didn't have to yet. Horrible. Let's hope it doesnt wind up like the McCarney one.

  42. Did taking at team that went 1-11 last year to 5-7 not compare favorably to the rest of college football? What were/are you expecting? 1-11 to 11-1? If you hire someone that wrecked your highest producing unit, to the point where all of your employees under him hated working there, what is your bar for the first year under a new hire? Improvement a measurable, and a 4-game improvement is a 400% increase. Would that be satisfactory improvement for your business hire? And AGAIN, I don't think the 1-year extension (virtually a useless "extension") was about Littrell. I think it was about the assistants. We got news about the new assistant hires and salary increases for the whole assistant staff after Littrell's extension. It was a big money shuffle.

  43. So they deserve a raise because the previous season was bad? It should be expected that a replacement outperforms a staff or someone that was fired. You fired them because you expect better. When you get better, that is why you hired them in the first place. So, does 6-7 or 7-6 get him another raise?
