I don't understand

I didn't attend the game saturday, but what's the big deal with the all black uniforms? They looked stupid, I'll agree on that part. From what I've read, you guys make it sound like Dickey was sending out some metaphor about the schools future.

So what, we had all black uniforms. They were ordered before the begining of the season. I'm pissed after I watch the game because of the crappy play calling, not because the color of our uniforms. Is there something I didn't catch about why everyones so pissed about it?

Yea, you come out in pregame warmups in regular uniforms, the ones that look like you are NORTH TEXAS. Then, when you come out to play the game, you have ALL BLACK on with only white numbers. No NORTH TEXAS, no name on the jersys....nothing but white numbers. Your head coach has changed his shirt and cap to all black. That is pretty sorry if you ask me. I pickup the paper and thought "what the heck are those uniforms?"

If DD wanted to make a negative statement by wearing all black uniforms, or piss off some fans/admin people off by doing it, then he must be laughing his butt off. He got exactly the reaction and emotional response he wanted. But the thing is....he got that response only from those exact people he wanted to irritate. The rest don't care at all. Nada... Zilch....What a brilliant move.

Okay...the dude got fired. Most people that get fired aren't real happy about it. PLUS...when you get fired, you usually don't have to show up at work for another month and still work the job. Can you imagine working at Grandy's? You're stirring up the instant potatos and cleaning the bathrooms. One day...you sneeze on the chicken one too many times and get fired...only, you must continue to work there for a few more weeks. That would be totally bogus. God only knows what you would do to get back at the management for taking away your career. I choose not to think about it since I've eaten at Grandy's since it was Granny's Chick-A-Gogo on University. (BTW, my brother worked there for two weeks in the late seventies. He made the mashed potatos and cleaned the bathrooms....I swear!)

ANYWAY...my point is: (what was it? oh yeah)

I'd rather he'd wear all black if that's the worst of it.

Son, do you really think those black jersesy were ordered before the season started? The purchasing department cut an order for 75 or so black jerseys with white numbers. No reference to NT, North Texas, Mean Green, Sun Belt Patch, nothing. Just a white number. Riiiiight! wink.gif

Or makers logo. Unless New Balance was too ashamed to take credit for that....

Since the NCAA does like the NFL does, and looks for things that are wrong, we will probably get some letter from then stating that we were out of compliance with our unis.

I won't be able to get my comic relief anymore once DD is gone, that's for sure.

And then Grandy's keeps sending you $4,000 per week for the next 2 years? I think that's the part where the analogy breaks down.

Old man, my point is I don't see how it really matters. The fact that everyone on here blows up over trivial bs is laughable though. Don't you guys ever get tired of over analyzing everything that comes out of DD/RV/LJ/the new president's mouth?

Anyways, a guy who just got canned is able to purchase over 70 some odd jerseys without the consent of anybody? And simultaneously this didn't throw off any indicators that DD might make the metaphor that the team is dead without him, despite that this might throw away the chance of having a good standing with the university and could possibly hinder his employment in the future.

I am happy that people are freaking out. It would bother me if no one gave a damn. To me it means that folks care about what happens on and of the field. It means that folks care how the university is perceived.

I will reiterate: Imagine for once second: what would happen if either team rolled out next Friday morning (UT vs TAMU) in black uniforms? There would probably be an investigation led by the state Attorney General.

I hope he broke the terms of his contract, and just forfeited $500k.

I will admit the REMOTE possibility that there is some benign explanation for the uniforms other than it was a stick in the eye. However, what really bothers me is that if that IS the explanation, then it means that our players were focused on controversy and not on winning, and you see the result. They lost to one of the worst teams ever, and you see where that leaves North Texas.

Yeah, thanks a LOT. PUUUUUUUUKE!

No kidding. There's a difference between working by the hour at Grandy's and working as a salaried employee with a high six-figure settlement who agreed to finish out the season after his firing.

It's called caring about the program. Maybe when you've been following this team for 18 years, as I have since enrolling in 1988, you'll know why it matters. The uniform stunt was bush league. Any school that values its football program wouldn't let a departing coach get away with it.

It didn't really bug me much when I saw the jerseys and I guess to a point it still doesn't. I kind of like the All Black look.

But it was a power play by Dickey. He is pissed off that he was fired and this is the most civil way for him to thumb his nose at RV and the school. Black jerseys with no school, conference, NCAA, or manufacturer logo.

Civil Disobedience is all it was.

Now if this act puts RV and the school in hot water with the Sun Belt conference, NCAA, or New Balance, Dickey needs to clean out his desk and escorted off the premises FIRST THING MONDAY MORNING.
