Jamario isnt the same as he was two years ago.....The OL is horrendous, and only having 5 passes is ridiculous...

Stop sending Jamario up the middle, for a yard..... Daniel Meager is the third string QB and 3rd string Qb's shouldnt play in a big OOC game....

Positives we played damn good in first half, defense played great, secondary excellent....

Our defense was on the field for 23 more plays, or 5 to 6 more series than the offense.

What gets me is Tulsa, who lost their main weapon from last year decided that wasn't going to hamper their plan. They spread the ball to 12, that's TWELVE! different recievers. North Texas spread it out among 5.

So who's really making an attempt to widen the other guy's defense?

I'll go to my grave never understanding our offense philosophy other than knowing that historically it's very poor.

There is a overall major problem with the offense.....You have good talent but something is not catching on....

With all these misfactors.... we will still probably win SBC championship

That is all that is expected of ths athletic program from the adminstrators, win any conference title, get a bowl game, then repeat cycle....

UNT adminstrators policy if it aint broke, dont fix it...Kinda like with Fouts field.

Keep in mind these facts:

- one TD was the result of a turnover deep in NT's end of the field - not a whole lot you can do.

- At the end of the first half, on a warm and humid evening, the defense withstood a 10 play drive, only to have the offense go 3-and-out, which Tulsa follow with an 11 or 12 play drive for their first TD

- At the start of the 3rd, Tulsa gets the ball back and goes on a 10 or 11 play drive. NT radio said that the defense had been on the field for the last 22 straight plays. The offense responded with - - - 3-and-out.

Conditioning for your defense will not fix this.

As for me, I am very proud of our defense after this game. Seeing how bad our offense stunk, the score could have easily been just like last year if our defense didn't play at such a high level. Kudos to those guys for playing so hard and very well against a very good Tulsa offense.

As for the offense, I am completely confounded that we kept beating our heads against the wall with running plays straight into the line. I think Woody only missed on one pass - and then we pull him from the game? Why not throw some quick slants to a wide out and make the defense pay for having their linebackers so tight to the line? Why not have a tight end sit in space 5 yards off the line - there was a lot of space out there.

Our passing plays just take too long to develop, and we can't rely on the sideline Hail Mary to win games - that is a nice play from time to time, but you can't hang your hat on it. You beat a stacked-line defense with quick passing plays to your athletes, and they can make a defense pay for sitting on the run all night.

I refuse to blame the players for the loss. The defense this year is excellent and should be commended.

The offense is good but they are led by invompetence and uncreativity. How do you only throw 5 passes against a team who got torched last weekend by the pass?

The players are not the problem, it is elsewhere and unfortunately many choose not to acknowledge the problem(s).

It there is not a change at the end of the season in either the HC position or OC then there are even bigger problems prsent within UNT.

Do you actually believe the offensive game plan is not a DD product? IMO replacing RF would not have any significant effect on the plays called.

Trying to run up the middle, when NT has at most three 1a caliber offensive linemen, is going to be a losing situation. Anyone else notice that the first offensive lineman off the bench is a walk on freshman? NT just does not have the talent to run DD's offense against the majority of teams. Not only does NT not have the offensive line, NT is down to one solid running back.

DD's limited success imo has been due to having better players than the other Belt teams. This advantage has been lost as recruiting has continued to decline. In general secondary, linebackers and receivers are much easier positions to recruit good players. There are just a lot more of them and there are going to be more available at NT current level of recruiting. Good linemen, quackerbacks and running backs are positions that are more difficult to obtain and it is difficult for DD, who recruits around the margins, to get the quality necessary.

Well, unfortunately, players don't catch their breath in game-time. They do it in real time. a 10 play, 3:30 drive took about 10 full minutes of real time.

This is especially true when the defense is in a reactionary role. The "O" can dictate tempo, change snap counts, go no huddle, or come slow to the line when they sense they're getting winded. The defense must always be alert. They must get to the line quicker, be ready to respond at all times and all 11 must fly to the ball. No one on D can "take a play off" which happens (at times by design) on offense when a play goes away. If a DL goes down, he's back up and in his pursuit angle, LB must fly sideline to sideline and DB's are always in pursuit angles many times running 25 to 30 yds per play.

BTW, you're not going to win many games when you have more punts (7) than pass completions (6). ohmy.gifblink.gifmad.gif

The game was actually uglier than the score indicated.

The Tulsa offense came out playing liked they believed in what they were doing, and it didn't seem to bother them much when we got two turn-overs at the beginning of the game.

Their belief in their offensive system (and their disdain for our offense) was made very clear to everyone when they made the decision to not punt for most of the game. They quick-kicked in their first fourth down situation, but I don't think they punted again until the end of the third quarter or the beginning of the fourth.

For the rest of the game, they basically lined up on fourth down and made it clear that either they knew they would always make it, or that they really didn't care if they didn't. Because they knew that their defense would handle us and get the ball back. Our defense fought them very hard, but I have to think that they got a psychological edge on the D, with their no-punting policy. And the offense did exactly what Tulsa was counting on, ......they didn't give the D any help with any sustained drives.

They also gave us a huge psychological punch in the stomach when we had them stopped at the four yard line on fourth down, right before half-time. At first, Tulsa came out to kick a FG, but we decided to call a time-out to "ice" their kicker. Tulsa's response? "Your not going to mess with our heads, we'll just go for it" They made it, and their confidence level went through the roof (and it wasn't too far from there to begin with), whilst ours.......never recovered.
